Funny that there are so many comments about this being too fast--I had to search around until I could find this one that I think has the proper tempo. The lyrics lilt as does the music, so too should the tempo. A beautiful job by a really good chamber choir with an impressively non-shrill soprano section :)
One of the most beautiful, most heartbreaking pieces ever written. I can't hardly think of it, let alone hear it, without tears. It's one of those pieces that touches too deeply.
I'm from Argentina, im sorry if my english is bad... i like this version but it seems a little fast in the begining, and i think it could have more dinamic changes.. but it's very nice, really good singers!
Wonderful job! I adore this piece; I sang it with my choir at Trinidad State. Only now do I see what an undertaking it was for my director to choose this piece for our then fledgling choir. He taught us so much vocal technique through this piece.
I absolutely adore this piece. I sang it about 5 years ago when the Cytringan Singers reached the semi finals of UK Sainsbury's Choir of the Year. It's a deceptively challenging piece and the choir here have done a fantastic job. They got tired about half way through and dropped pitch a bit, but I remember we did as well - it's really tricky! Good job guys.
Beautiful job of an extremely difficult piece. I notice the conductor has the sections mixed up--I think that's a smart move for a piece like this. Nice work.
Thanks, Cypress, for adding this online! I thought the choir did an excellent performance, and I'm not just saying that because I'm partial to the group!
Nice job, group! My high school choir performed this 26 years ago. We won 1st place with it in a contest. It IS challenging. I'm thinking of resurrecting it again for another contest.
Thank you thank you thank you for putting this online! I sang in the chamber choir for this concert - I was only in the group for one semester before transferring back to the east coast, but it was such a great group and I miss them all so much.
We sang this as a contemporary song in our repertoire in the regional finals of the National Music Competitions for the Young Artists in the Philippines in 1996. Because of its difficulty, we sang "Have You Seen the White Lily Grow" by Irving Fine instead in the national finals. Eventually, we won the first place in the national contest.
"And the air on the mountain chill" comes out absolutely chillingly. I love it. I also don't see how anyone could think they're going too fast.

Great overall tone and blend, but it sounds a little fast. The notes aren't being savored enough in the beginning.

pretty good but you should have used more dynamics at the beginning there it is mf and it should be piano then cresendo into a mf

My gosh, your tenors break my heart - they're so good!
My personal opinion is that it started off a bit too fast, but that's just taste. All together, you guys did a GREAT job.

good job. a bit slower with the tempo and i think the true passion of the lyrics could have come through alot more.

good job tho.

The ending was a bit weak. Pretty good for the most part, though.
The set of 3 pieces from which this is the last - Barber's "Reincarnations" - are a stunning group of works. Wonderful music, to say the least.
