You've got to be kidding me! NO HELMET- NO WAY! GERM-SHARE is more like it! Please, the new haiku signs are a dangerous, distraction as is without wasting MORE MONEY cluttering NYC with folks in a hurry getting hurt/killed riding rental bikes! Get serious! DOT you're not using your heads!
i wouldn't ride a bike in this city -- any city for that matter, without a helmet...it's surprising that the city isn't making it mandatory or at least figuring out a solution to that given that they give away helmets, regardless of waiving liability...
@steinphoto You find another station nearby - in DC they are all around. Also, the company monitors stations and moves bikes around by truck if there are too many in one area and not enough in another.
@lotwyo I think it doesn't need to be forbidden...it would be a good thing to make it mandatory, but also people should care enough about their own safety to be using one without having to be it a law...It is not like anyone is doing something to us in this respect...let's get little bit of personal responsibility into the game....I agree with cooketristan...bring your own helmet...
Everyone you show riding has a helmet - interesting as one of the main things that is likely to make the NYC scheme succeed is the lack of need for a helmet.
@cooketristan Helmets are great - but they are not required in any of the cities where I have used Bikeshare. Basically, when you rent a bike, you waive liability on the part of the company and the city. Bring your own helmet, is what I suggest - it's a lot easier than lugging your bike on the Subway - has anyone ever done that? Not too easy or fun.

It should be forbidden to ride a bike without a helmet, for the same good reasons cars can't be driven without seat belts.
