I don't think it is a sin to pray. And referring to faith you don't have to believe in God to pray to God. No one can say Jesus is LORD except in the holy spirit.
I agree...so much it seems richly shared in Christ...seems like who nicked-picked this did not ask the LORD should I? No contention needed here. Pls...share the Gospel!
What Tozer was saying is that we are all worshippers by nature. An unbeliever may pray, but it is to a god he has created in his own image. He is not speaking of an unbeliever praying to the true and the living God.
I think you misunderstood Tozer's meaning. You assert that he is saying it's "good" that men naturally pray and therefore man can listen to his own heart and need not the word of God, but he's just stating a fact. He's not judging whether it's good or bad, it's just natural. Even the most hardcore "atheist" will say "oh god" when he's scared. He's not saying this saves them, he's just saying that God put in every man's heart to call out to Him. Listen to "why some can't receive him" sometime.
il say the same thing to the maker of this video that Ravenhill said to his congregation..... "Do you think God is going to judge me on what you think of me....? Forget it! Hes going to judge me from the Word....." believe me id rather stand before God with tozers record than my own! He was a mighty man of God and will go down in history as one of Gods best.
What about Cornelious the Roman Centurion? He was not saved until Peter came and preached the gospel to him and his household, he was a converted Jew most likely but not saved when an angle came to him while he was...praying.. and said to him "your prayers and your alms have come up as a memeorial". All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and that included the Jews that were not saved prior to Jesus' crusifiction, and yet when they prayed to God for repentance, He heard them.
It is natural for all men to cry out to God, believer or not. Sorry Andrew, you missed the mark, he does not follownatural theology. Every person in their life in times of trouble cry out to God, whatever their god may be. Tozer is a man before his time. Tozer implication is humility before God! Keep studying Andrew because you are way off the mark.
What you are saying is completely distorting what Tozer said. We are designed first and foremost to worship and that will be our work in eternity. You are not even quoting Tozer, but giving a reinterpretation of what he said. What a waste of time. Seriously, the Bible says to "redeem the time," please find something more edifying to do than trashing those who aren't even alive to defend themselves.
Bain, why does every single one of your videos seem to attack a great man of God in some way that totally takes their words and their message out of context?
another example of rigidity in your thought : are you aware that the word Law means one thing in Paul but quite the different sense in James? After all James calls it the law of liberty, the royal law, but Paul calls Law the ministry of condemnation.
Both right, both complementary.
you havent the charity to see that maybe tozer was using words in a complementary sense?
but no, better to condemn rather than address possible other senses of the same word.
this only appears awkward if you are rigid about the use of the word natural, you forget that "natural" also pertains to the creation. not only that but you are overstretching what Tozer said.
and YES man is made in the image of God.
have you so little to do that you need to quibble over something that is minor?
too many apologists are hostile about things if they are not TOTALLY in agreement with their own way of expressing it.
Dude its ok to have an opinion, But it's only your opinion, and you are manipulating scripture as opposed to letting it speak God's truth to you. Don't speak like you are right and he is wrong. Coz I really dont see ANY proof of that been the case at all. Dont get legalistic and determined to be "more right" than a reknown preacher, Just pray bro! Its really simple :D
I am a student of Tozer- Let his own words defend him. From his book "Jesus, Author of Our Faith": "In my own contemplations, I have found great comfort in the doctrine of prevenient grace, which is the belief that before a sinful man or woman can seek God, God must have first sought the man or woman." You would have better luck flying a kite in a tornado than taking on Tozer>
Tozer did not say prayer is not spiritual - you said that. Also, I would contend that prayer can be both spiritual and unspiritual. It depends on if the Holy Spirit is in the prayer, or if they are merely the words of a selfish man who wants what he wants. Do you think the prayers of the Pharisees were spiritual? Of course not. How about the prayers of Paul? Arguments such as yours are infantile and show you are a spiritual cripple. Grow up in the Lord before posting such drivel again.
This is a horrible and slanderous accusation and misquote of one of God's annointed. It's merely stating THAT prayer should come so naturally to us as we are made in God's likeness, and our communion between us and God should be as natural as communion between mind and body. You can convince yourself that you've squeezed blood from a stone if you so desperately strain for a droplet.
Are you kidding me??? This man had more anointing in his little finger than most of the people in churches today have combined. Its sad you find reason to discredit who God used greatly..
What!? You must have had actually look for one little thing to say bad about Tozer. Probably took you years. I pity you, and others that have heard you say these things.
When and where would Tozer say that prayer is not spiritual? Have you actually read any of his books or heard his sermons - or even read his biography? Honestly, the mind boggles.
He means it is natural in the sense that in our original state before the fall, still within the loins of Adam, communion with the Father had once been man's truly natural position.
When Adam sinned, the nature of man was fallen and in place of that union we all inherited the indwelling death which reigned to all men. Communion with God had once been the true nature of man, but due 2 sin, unto us was separation and the imputed fallen nature for which Christ had to die to reconcile us again.
1- The sense in which Dr. Tozer is using the word "natural" differs from the sense in which are perceiving.
I would like to know what you think of Spurgeon's work "Power in Prayer" in which he says a thing extremely close to this.
There is a void God had once inhabited before the fall, and within the nature of man there is some sense of the absence of God... a void, an emptiness. Though natural man may try in vain to fill it with carnal things it can only be satisfied through faith in Christ.
Tozer's right. Natural, being natural to how man was ORIGINALLY created, like he plainly said. Man was naturally created and God said everything is good. True, we're only like that today, in Christ, but that's MY definition of natural, dunno why you'd call sinful mankind "natural"... That's far from natural. So it IS natural, as intended by God, to pray!
Romans 14:10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God;
11 for it is written, "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God."
12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.
13 Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.
I was running out of room on my last comment. God breathed into man the breath of life and he became a living soul. One that as C.S. Lewis says in Mere Christianity, possesses an unwritten moral code. We can tell right from wrong. How do we do this? From the knowledge we have of God. During 9-11, all kinds of people said they were praying. We know there is a God, and that he hears us when we pray.
I wouldn't call this man [the one who posted this video] an idiot or a dumb ass. It would seem that he speaks from fundamental Calvinism. I agree that man is depraved and lost, but I also we are made in the image of God and are eternal beings. This is why death seems so unnatural to us. Man is wired to worship. Just look at all the world's religions. Man has a deep longing and need for God.The law of God is written on the heart of every man, and thus left without excuse.
Only a total and complete dumbass would try to discredit the great and wonderfull work of Tozer. You sir are an ass who is ever learning but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth!!!
You miss quote Romans 10 keep reading. "Indeed they have heard." Also when you read Romans one it does say that God has made himself known. And John 1 says that Jesus enlightens every man's heart as when they come into the world. Stop trying to tear down good biblical preachers.
K... this is the last post I'm wasting on this guy. I just posted my internal deliberations about this guys intentions. This crap clears up any misgivings I had about his intent. He's straight evil. I get there by way of the fact that he's clearly quite intelligent and well versed in some of the more prominent teachers. He's intentionally chosen deception. Moving on.
Looks like you have a real reputation, or trying to create one. What's the real motive? Is attempting to shooting down well respected scholars and apologists by half quoting them or taking what is said out of context something you call fun? What cable network or magazine tabloid do you work for or do you plan to start your own?
Would you challenge something this man has said whose been deceased for almost 50 years that may have been misquoted or taken out of context? Not saying everything he said was biblical or I agree with but he's not here to explain, correct nor defend his case... I think that's a bit cowardly... Really.
I think if you actually look in context Tozer was not saying that prayer is not a spiritual thing. When he speaks of it being natural he does so because we were created to be in fellowship with God.
I just find it so sad that people fight about this. How God's heart must break! The works of Tozer have been a huge influence on my life and it is scary that you think he wasn't a real believer! He was closer to God tha you or I ever will be.
I concur...you slander a godly man when you speak against Tozer....beware, the Lord will not tolerate such a thing.
I would argue against what you say but it appears that others better than I have already addressed you. This is a foolish thing you do...ask God Himself what He thinks of Tozer
are you a jehovah witness ? mormon ? seems your sole approach is to spread doubt. most cults hide their identity at first and attempt to play on ignorance of those who don't know better. tell the truth bain , tell us what YOU beleive not what iswrong with everything else. Can you ?
Sorry, but I have to say it: Listening to this "commentary" on Tozer was like listening to a voice straight from the pit of hell. Except that I think even Satan would not make as ridiculous of arguments as are made here.
Andrew - Have you ever actually read Tozer? I challenge you to get your head into his books and then come back and repeat this ridiculous allegation. There was no-one more spiritually and Christ-minded than Tozer. Please get your facts right in case you foolishly condemn someone without cause, as you have here.
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
They are gossips, landerers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.
This man Andrew is the epitome of modern day Protestant thinking and behavior; which expects it followers to like robots and parrots. They are always confronting and behaving like lawyers. Andrews religion is an affair of the mind, which boasts it assurance on memory of words on paper, and he is not even good at it. Tozer's words were a prophetic cry about this behavior and thinking.
I can't stomach your quotation twisting anymore. You've been repeatedly admonished of your dishonest misquotations of myriad of godly men yet you seemingly remain incorrigible. Here's a word for you:
Mt 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
wow, have you ever read, "He has also set eternity in the hearts of men"? so tozer is right in saying there is a spirit deep in side that cries out for Jesus. it is natural for us to pray, i never heard him say that it was not spiritual. if you ever listen to a non-believer, you will here them pray, oh God help me, even though they don't know him, they natural seek him.
Well, I am in agreement with the rest of these guys that you are twisting Tozer's words. This man was straight forward in his belief of God. I have read and listened to just about everything I can on Tozer and have not found him wrong on much. I am a strong reformer in belief. My theology is that of Calvin, Luther, Boston, Owens, Sproul, MacArthur, Piper, and so on. Tozer fits pretty well in line with them. I beg you to study your belief again in what Tozer is saying here.
@qaileys lol. I agree that Tozer is a great Christian man...but to say he is in line with the Calvinist thinking? If anything, Tozer would have been considered Armenian. I have never heard anyone say that he is along the lines of Calvin and Piper. WOW! lol
ponder on this verse: " John 1:3-5 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. even unregenerate men will cry out to God because 'the darkness has not overcome the Light of God.' men can resist the Holy Spirit - "ye stiff necked people who always do resist the Holy Spirit" ...act 7:51. we are without excuse... it is not natural that we want God, but natural that we know there IS God and able to cry out to Him.
AndrewcBain, you are a twister of things and a generator of lies as is your father, the Devil, Satan.
Once again Satan is through you trying to pull down a man who is born again. But, the fact is, AW Tozer is in HEAVEN right now, and you are destined for HELL.
REPENT REPENT REPENT. The time is coming soon. You will fall under extreme judgement.
In a natural family if a son needs anything, he would ask the father, not his elder brother. 1260days is correct in that it is because of petition the Father by the authority given to us through Jesus. Jesus walked the path set before Him; we should be walking the path Father God has given us. May we all find and fulfill the purpose of our design.
No man comes to the Father lest the Spirit of God draws that man. The "unsaved" which Bro.Tozer referred to does indeed have a natural ability to "cry out" when in distress. When I heard that message, as a reborn, recreated believer, I discerned instantly that the preacher "inferred" that the lost one in question was simply responding to that wonderful drawing of the Spirit of god.
Tozer did not believe in the "God in everyone". He never advocated that. You twist his meanings from isolating one sentence.. You are much like a Jehovah Witness or any other cult member.. Who are you trying to proove? are you trying to look smarted than Tozer? You are not half the man of Tozer, and im sure you dont have half the relationship with God.
Because we know he is real, as Romans claims, then we naturally pray. But that doesn't mean he hears us. Without Christ God cannot hear a sinner--God does not look at people with sin on them. Tozer isnt taking away from Christ. He isnt saying God hears those people. He is explaining the reason people naturally pray is because they know hes real deep down.
Tozer was illustrating Romans 1:18. We suppress God and deeply know hes there. Hes explaining that we should listen to the voice telling us God is real. That does not mean those people will be saved, or find Christ. He is merely praying for people to acknowledge Gods existance.
Excuse me, but i think that you are a completely wrong.. You are full of pride, and all your videos are you trying to look good at the expense of other, holier and smarter people. God help you.. Stop making videos to boost your ego.. I would examine yourself to see if you are saved.. From your arrogance i doubt it..
Oh wow! The arrogance with which you speak is appalling. One day, I hope you get the revelation that you are doing more harm than good here. These are brothers in Christ you are denegrating, NOT heretics. These videos have no place on YouTube!
I get the feeling you will soon enter into a very trying season in your life, where your "know-it-all" mentality will come under the heavy discipline of God. It happens to all of us, don't worry.
It seems you only know how to take other mens words and twist them into things us morons would never pick up on. Do you appreciate any preacher? Do you have your own ideas? Post a sermon of your own.
It seems you only know how to take other mens words and twist them into things us morons would never pick up on. Do you appreciate any preacher? Do you have your own ideas? Post a sermon of your own.
I know of a Tozer sermon where he told the congregation to check everything he said against the Bible, and if they found something wrong with his sermon, to ignore it. Tozer was an evangelical.
I used to be a bit of a Pharisee, I suspect like you, always pedantic about certain topics etc. I now realise that God has not called us to be nit pickers, but to be his sons and daughters. He wants us to share the good news about Jesus and demonstrate God's love to all people.
Jeremy, thank you for a powerful, and a straightforward comment.
Andrew, you have much hate in your heart. I don't know what may have caused it, perhaps some religious institution that put religion ahead of a relationship with Jesus, or perhaps some experiences that you have not come to terms with. Either way, you can try hating God as much as you want, He will still love you. He wants to have a relationship with you, and a dialogue with your heart!
Tozer spoke of "evangelical rationalists" who call themselves christians and think that because the have the words of truth, they have the Truth. He likened them to the pharisees and noted that the pharisees were the Lord's worst enemies. They "searched the scriptures" thinking that in them they could obtain life, but they would not come to Him of whom the scriptures spoke. Make no mistake, Andrew Bain is an evangelical rationalist and he is one of our Lord's worst enemies.
I find it amazing that you make the illogical statements that you make. Mankind has prayed to God long before the "Spirit" of God was poured out upon all flesh.
A. W. Tozer was probably one the most holiest men that ever walked this earth, and a prophet of the Lord.
May I humbly suggest to you that you seek the Lord on this, for you are is great danger of denying the One you think you know?
Hi brother you have misunderstood complelty. paul says we are all the childern of God and man in most cases it is paul. Your thoelogy is very simple and probably you are sick
You miss the point of a natural thing to pray. The Christian point of view is that we were created to worship him. It's in our nature... that doesn't lower God or lead people away from scripture. The Bible is just a manual for a relationship with God.
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
brother I can say one Thing There is apsolutely no discernment of the Person of the Holy Spirit in your life. Neither have you read or understood by what and which spitit he was speaking from.
Think about how Tozer was converted, he went up to his attic and spoke to God. Speaking to God is to recognise there is a God, and speaking to our Father is the most natural thing that can happen.
At the same time, we do pray naturally, it only becomes spiritual thanks to the Holy Spirit, Romans 8:26-27.
Beware of the Wrath of God. Your mental ascent to the gospel lacks true faith. God knows what you are doing in trying to cut down God's anointed and taking their preaching out of context. Tozer prayed ten times more than you do and he was a man who walked with God. You walk in pride. Your videos are very accusative against the saints of God, kind of like Satan is.
A typical example of taking a single quote out of context and creating an entire argument. Listen to and read the entire library of Tozer and there would be no way to deny he points lost men to the blood of Christ. Please rethink your criticism of this prophet of God. Of course, I am sure you believe prophets went away with the apostles.
come on tozer never ever siad man can reach God without Christ .he is simply saying deprived man has a longing 4 eternal life and when a sinner calles to God in his state God heres him .For while we were yet sinners he loved us You are twisting tozers words .very shakeie ground.what religon r u please post
Tozer equates being spiritually born in this dead world to a book by hg wells,
"in the country of the blind". All were blind, then a man with sight arrived and HE was the unusual person. It is a short book i just finished. Tozer nor any other spirit filled Christian will never be popular and likely not understood in our or any generation. (without the spirit) May you continue to search and seek truth!
Last post, i know you are probably smarter, but coming to christ is not about the brain. I really dont understand, nor can i argue all the realities or mysteries of faith. But i can never be talked out of faith as on one specific day in my life, my eyes were opened and i will NEVER look at things the same again.
Another tozer Sermon i recently listened to he spoke of kmowledge and being a saved beleiver. If you come to, or approach the word of God with intellect only, and accept it at that level, next time someone with a better argument comes along you may be argued out of Faith. True faith, a relationship with Jesus, comes as a work of the Spirit in us. We really dont get credit for it. all we do at first Pray for God to reveal truth. Until the Spirit does its work, we are unable to see.
I listen to tozers sermons each AM as part of my devotions. Yesterday he warned of looking at teh scriptures too deeply and looking for complexity where none exist. He likens it to saying a word too many times, it loses its meaning. Listen to him in totality, ask the holy spirit to assist in interpertation, all will be clear.
You don't have bad things to say - you clearly have Biblical knowledge, which is good - but you are completely taking Tozer (and your post about Packer) out of context and thus are attempting to make him say something he never said.
Another thing to remember - is that Tozer was a humble man, willing to say that he didn't know everything and that he was a learner. I wonder if you would say the same about yourself.
ALSO, I agree that the Bible should be our source of truth, but as Jesus says in John 14, that He will give those who believe in Him the Holy Spirit, which is God, who STILL SPEAKS today (God is not mute, nor is He bound by what has been recorded in the Bible - though I agree that it should be a measure by which we discern men's words, when we discern them in context...)
Lastly, you know theology, good. But remember what Christ says in Matthew 7.. It's about doing the Father's will, bearing fruit, and KNOWING CHRIST. Tozer, with guidance from the Holy Spirit, taught men how to know and love Christ personally - with mind and HEART. You clearly have the mind part figured out, but I wonder how much fruit you actually bear by constantly tearing down and never building up. I wonder if your heart has ever met it's Savior.
My advice: stop spending all your time trying to get to know ABOUT Jesus and ABOUT what God SAID in the Bible.. and get to know Jesus and what God is SAYING in the Bible! Spend hours on your knees in prayer, in the presence of the Lord, listening to His voice and what He has to say to you. That's what Tozer did. And I bet if you search your Bible, you'll find quite a few other saints did the same.
Dude, who ever you are saying those things about Tozer you have not done a fair work on Tozers works. Just by saying that man has a natural longing for God does not mean that he is saying men can reach God on their own. Total depravity does not necessarily mean that man could reach God.
How do you deal with the question of the heathens who, before the advent of Christian in their society had a consciousness of a supreme being?
Hi. Thanks for the question regarding the Gentiles. You wrote, "How do you deal with the question of the heathens who, before the advent of Christian in their society had a consciousness of a supreme being?" My response: Well, how did King Darius, Job, Melchizedek, Rahab etc and all the Gentiles in the Old Testament know about God? By hearing revelation (Numbers 14:15) handed down from previous generations (Job 8:8).
Gentiles would visit Jerusalem and take information back with them to their tribes/nations (1 Kings 8:43). Indeed, Psalm 19 "the heavens declare the glory of God" is applied by Paul in Rom 10:18 to the preaching of the Gospel by the prophets and apostles throughout the world. Anyways, where does the Bible say unbelievers can have a "sense" of the True God?
Don't unbelievers say in their hearts, "there is no God"? Clearly, unbelievers near to HEAR revelation because their minds are captivated by satan (2 Cor 4:4-6). And he will never give an unbeliever a sense of the True God, but only idols and false gods. (1 Cor 10:19). More on this question here.. Godnoliar.**com/biblealone.htm (Remove **s). Thanks.
what a narrow minded reasoning bro. read the rest of the quote, and your case is closed. It's natural "because God originally made him to do it"

When and where would Tozer say that prayer is not spiritual? Have you actually read any of his books or heard his sermons - or even read his biography? Honestly, the mind boggles.
ICR68 2 years ago
He means it is natural in the sense that in our original state before the fall, still within the loins of Adam, communion with the Father had once been man's truly natural position.
When Adam sinned, the nature of man was fallen and in place of that union we all inherited the indwelling death which reigned to all men. Communion with God had once been the true nature of man, but due 2 sin, unto us was separation and the imputed fallen nature for which Christ had to die to reconcile us again.
Apeleutheros80 2 years ago
1- The sense in which Dr. Tozer is using the word "natural" differs from the sense in which are perceiving.
I would like to know what you think of Spurgeon's work "Power in Prayer" in which he says a thing extremely close to this.
There is a void God had once inhabited before the fall, and within the nature of man there is some sense of the absence of God... a void, an emptiness. Though natural man may try in vain to fill it with carnal things it can only be satisfied through faith in Christ.
Apeleutheros80 2 years ago
Your other points though, I won't comment either way, I don't know what to say. Mercy on you. God is just.
SlowIsSmoothIsFast 2 years ago
Tozer's right. Natural, being natural to how man was ORIGINALLY created, like he plainly said. Man was naturally created and God said everything is good. True, we're only like that today, in Christ, but that's MY definition of natural, dunno why you'd call sinful mankind "natural"... That's far from natural. So it IS natural, as intended by God, to pray!
SlowIsSmoothIsFast 2 years ago
Towzer is saying it's the most natural (basic) thing for the spiritual man of God. "
Towzer was only human; just another man that also sinned and asked God for forgivness. Don't knock him.

Romans 14:10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God;

Looks like you have a real reputation, or trying to create one. What's the real motive? What cable network or magazine tabloid do you work for or do you plan to start your own?

Would you challenge something this man has said whose been deceased for almost 50 years that may have been misquoted or taken out of context? psykomystro 3 years ago

Romans 1:18-20
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

ROMANS 2 :14-15
Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.

That the preacher used the term prayer is irrelevant to me as I comprehended the sum of his intention.
Please listen again and this time, pray for ears to hear what the "Spirit" is saying!
KingdomUploader 3 years ago
No man comes to the Father lest the Spirit of God draws that man. The "unsaved" which Bro.Tozer referred to does indeed have a natural ability to "cry out" when in distress. When I heard that message, as a reborn, recreated believer, I discerned instantly that the preacher "inferred" that the lost one in question was simply responding to that wonderful drawing of the Spirit of god.
KingdomUploader 3 years ago
Tozer did not believe in the "God in everyone". He never advocated that. You twist his meanings from isolating one sentence.. You are much like a Jehovah Witness or any other cult member.. Who are you trying to proove? are you trying to look smarted than Tozer? You are not half the man of Tozer, and im sure you dont have half the relationship with God.
LiViDaChI 3 years ago 2
Because we know he is real, as Romans claims, then we naturally pray. But that doesn't mean he hears us. Without Christ God cannot hear a sinner--God does not look at people with sin on them. Tozer isnt taking away from Christ. He isnt saying God hears those people. He is explaining the reason people naturally pray is because they know hes real deep down.
LiViDaChI 3 years ago
Tozer was illustrating Romans 1:18. We suppress God and deeply know hes there. Hes explaining that we should listen to the voice telling us God is real. That does not mean those people will be saved, or find Christ. He is merely praying for people to acknowledge Gods existance.

Dear Andrew

Last post...really
Tozer equates being spiritually born in this dead world to a book by hg wells,
"in the country of the blind". All were blind, then a man with sight arrived and HE was the unusual person. It is a short book i just finished. Tozer nor any other spirit filled Christian will never be popular and likely not understood in our or any generation. (without the spirit) May you continue to search and seek truth!
part731910 4 years ago
Last post, i know you are probably smarter, but coming to christ is not about the brain. I really dont understand, nor can i argue all the realities or mysteries of faith. But i can never be talked out of faith as on one specific day in my life, my eyes were opened and i will NEVER look at things the same again.
part731910 4 years ago
Another tozer Sermon i recently listened to he spoke of kmowledge and being a saved beleiver. If you come to, or approach the word of God with intellect only, and accept it at that level, next time someone with a better argument comes along you may be argued out of Faith. True faith, a relationship with Jesus, comes as a work of the Spirit in us. We really dont get credit for it. all we do at first Pray for God to reveal truth. Until the Spirit does its work, we are unable to see.
part731910 4 years ago
I listen to tozers sermons each AM as part of my devotions. Yesterday he warned of looking at teh scriptures too deeply and looking for complexity where none exist. He likens it to saying a word too many times, it loses its meaning. Listen to him in totality, ask the holy spirit to assist in interpertation, all will be clear.
part731910 4 years ago
You don't have bad things to say - you clearly have Biblical knowledge, which is good - but you are completely taking Tozer (and your post about Packer) out of context and thus are attempting to make him say something he never said.
Another thing to remember - is that Tozer was a humble man, willing to say that he didn't know everything and that he was a learner. I wonder if you would say the same about yourself.
iamlucasking 4 years ago
ALSO, I agree that the Bible should be our source of truth, but as Jesus says in John 14, that He will give those who believe in Him the Holy Spirit, which is God, who STILL SPEAKS today (God is not mute, nor is He bound by what has been recorded in the Bible - though I agree that it should be a measure by which we discern men's words, when we discern them in context...)
iamlucasking 4 years ago
Lastly, you know theology, good. But remember what Christ says in Matthew 7.. It's about doing the Father's will, bearing fruit, and KNOWING CHRIST. Tozer, with guidance from the Holy Spirit, taught men how to know and love Christ personally - with mind and HEART. You clearly have the mind part figured out, but I wonder how much fruit you actually bear by constantly tearing down and never building up. I wonder if your heart has ever met it's Savior.
iamlucasking 4 years ago
My advice: stop spending all your time trying to get to know ABOUT Jesus and ABOUT what God SAID in the Bible.. and get to know Jesus and what God is SAYING in the Bible! Spend hours on your knees in prayer, in the presence of the Lord, listening to His voice and what He has to say to you. That's what Tozer did. And I bet if you search your Bible, you'll find quite a few other saints did the same.
Peace to you.
iamlucasking 4 years ago
Dude, who ever you are saying those things about Tozer you have not done a fair work on Tozers works. Just by saying that man has a natural longing for God does not mean that he is saying men can reach God on their own. Total depravity does not necessarily mean that man could reach God.
How do you deal with the question of the heathens who, before the advent of Christian in their society had a consciousness of a supreme being?
louisestensig 4 years ago
AndrewcBain 4 years ago
Gentiles would visit Jerusalem and take information back with them to their tribes/nations (1 Kings 8:43). Indeed, Psalm 19 "the heavens declare the glory of God" is applied by Paul in Rom 10:18 to the preaching of the Gospel by the prophets and apostles throughout the world. Anyways, where does the Bible say unbelievers can have a "sense" of the True God?
AndrewcBain 4 years ago
Don't unbelievers say in their hearts, "there is no God"? Clearly, unbelievers near to HEAR revelation because their minds are captivated by satan (2 Cor 4:4-6). And he will never give an unbeliever a sense of the True God, but only idols and false gods. (1 Cor 10:19). More on this question here.. Godnoliar.**com/biblealone.htm (Remove **s). Thanks.
