@riveroflonging "song n 1 a piece of music with words, composed for the voice 2 the tuneful call made by certain birds or insects 3 the act or process of singing" - `Collins Concise Dictionary & Thesaurus
There is nothing like being in SoCal, driving on the PCH (Hwy 1) with your top down (or your windows open), while listening to this beautiful piece of music, and letting the pacific breeze hit you. It gives you a feeling that mere words cannot really describe. This song (for me) optimizes what smooth cool jazz is all about.
Bobby Womack wrote this In 1971, on an album with jazz guitarist Gábor Szabó, he introduced his song "Breezin'", which later became a hit for George Benson. Beautiful!!!
This song brings me to a place where I can imagine that I'm cruising the coast of Malibu in a nice luxury car with the windows down and with a beautiful girl in the seat next to me...
There are just some songs that INSTANTLY bring back fond memories of my childhood. This is DEFINITELY one of them. I hope this song has the same effect on all of you too.
Damn!!! All People want to do is Battle !! A bit Boring folks.. I dont Love Smooth Jazz as a Ruel myself because it Does'nt take any Chances.. I like Miles,Coletrane, Louis Armstrong, etc. But a classic piece is a classic piece.. Like this one; and also you have Bob James, & Pat Metheeny.. That have made Great Works.. Stop with all the comparisons and just Enjoy the Music.. Fucking JAZZ Beef !! That shit is lame in it self.. LOL
I generally hate---fucking loathe, actually--"smooth" jazz. However, if I had to listen to it--as opposed to my beloved Bebop , Swing, Stride etc...--George Benson would be my first choice. He is incredibly talented well beyond this insipid genre.
@Maafa1619 I guess the titles are defining this. I don't think I've ever listened to any smooth jazz tbh. Gospel and Soul is what I always thought as a kid as smooth jazz but that was childhood lol. I listen to Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans, Keith Jarret, etc.. Power houses in real jazz to me :D.
I was 6 in 1976..I think of this song playuing on a beach..with lots of warm weather..cold drinks and EVERYONE having fun..THANK YOU for posting this!
If guitar players haven't tried jamming over the loops to this progression, you're missing out. Keep it tasteful and damn near everything you try in the key works.
Some Surgeons DO play it while they are operating! I was a Theatre Sister and I know that patients can hear even under anaesthetic! It is the last sense to go! You know the surgeon cares if he picks this one!
Check out The guitar work of Pat Caseria in "Cool Spring Breeze" on Video Responses. Seriously, this is some of the nicest playing to come in for a landing lately. What a great sounding guitar!
This for me even rises above his later more commercial stuff. I saw him in the early 1980s live: just before less thrilling stuff like "Lady love me one more time". A great voice but even more genius guitar playing.
I just commented on his song "Masquerade" but this song is just the bomb diggity. I was just a kid in the 70's but I remember a better time than this day in age. This song reminds me of say HO HO HO for the icecream truck, barbeque's over grandma's, jump ropin, gum chewin, hand clappin, bike ridin, hide go seekin...much love to those who remember the good times.
Don't you think that jazz is for the curious people, for the people who like mysteries. For me jazz holds a great mystery. It makes me think but also relax. Not that there is no other great music but nothing is like jazz.
@vandalski858 i understand what you mean, nothing quite like jazz, looking at jazz back in the 20's and 30's and to 60's 70's and 80's jazz, even tho some of the style has changed like cool jazz, west coast, big band etc, there is always abit of mystery around, the artists themselves or the solos and the lyrics.
Isn't the LP STILL the biggest selling jazz one ever?! George could've retired long ago on the power of this & the LP, but thankfully, he's still playing.
Maybe if Jazz was the Detroit Public Schools Genre of Music of choice there would be less violence. Not saying Mr George Bensons', Najee's, or Mr Tim Bowmans' music would solve the financial situation as well, but at least the kids wouldn't continue to fight/ shoot one another.
I just love "Breezin'" It is such a terrific instrumental. I don't have the proper adjectives to do this justice. It is just so darn appealing and delightful to the ear and the heart. All I can say is I have loved this song for a long, long time and that will never change - just love that "Breezn'. Thank your for a great post.
This is excellent elevatror, library, bumper music, etc. On Both Sides Now forum I questioned as to what the song was and someone gave the million dollar answer...:) Princess Crusies played this recently..
