  • he really takes the piss. this is one of my favourite lines

  • I bet Sherlock paid the gypsy to say that? especially the warts scene

  • When you put this all in text I feel so sorry for laughing at this (for Watson XD)

  • I think this might very well be my favorite scene from this movie. Even more so than the pillow scene, lol.

  • "what of the warts!"

Ugh Oh she she's covered in warts

    "ARE THEY EXTENSIVE?!"

    LMAO XD

  • Lace doilies!!!!!

  • "does your depravity know no bounds?"

    "no."

  • This is HILARIOUS

  • oh my god. just look at his face when he says "ARE THEY EXTENSIVE" xDDD

  • Hmm... doilies.

  • ARE THEY EXTENSIVE!?

Maybe Downey Jr.'s funniest line ever.

  • Holmes, does your depravity know no bounds?

    No.

    XD

  • Can someone please explain to me the lace doilies reference?

  • @ExgamerLegends Just a few minutes earlier in the movie, Holmes made some reference to married life and lace doilies. It's how Watson knew he'd hired the "fortuneteller".

  • Tv Tropes ruined entertainment. Stop using bullshit made up terms, and stop interpreting any interaction between.... ANYONE as some sort of sexual tension. You tropers are more annoying than those asshole 13-year-olds that relate everything to tits.

  • @Oriphym Ehehm, I'd like to point you to certain quote by the director of the movie himself: "Guys, will you please stop gaying it up?"

And if you dislike the term HoYay, you are very welcome to use the official version: homoerotic tension. That's used in any book on literature.

  • @Aysannes It may seem silly but some of this is very true. Look at Starsky and Hutch, and Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in 'Lethal Weapon', and others. Buddie movies tend to pair up a couple of guys and they always have this funny old-married-couple thing going on. It makes it believeable that they would risk their lives for each other (or avenge a partner's death, whatever). It is in literature. It is in Hollywood.

  • @mrsotter19 Well, yes, of course. That's exactly my point. And wether you interpret this as best-friends-forever or homoerotic-like-hell, well ... I believe that's entirely up to the viewer. we are still waiting for a movie or a story with gay characters that's not about being gay but about being badass, so we have to make do with HoYay. So sue us :D

  • @Aysannes :)))

  • Love the face at the end haha XD

  • Doilies.

    ARE THEY EXTENSIVE?!?!?!!!

  • I say this all the time! haha

  • Lol at 0:25, Jude Law is trying not to laugh :D

  • @bannothepianist In reference to the comment about doilllies I think she uiis going on about things that men feasr most about getting married, a house full of feminie things and nothing masculine, them gianing weight, not shaving and waxing anymore to care for themselves....there is nothing sexual about it that i can think of....

  • ARE THEY EXTENSIVE

Oh, God, he said like he was in church, "CAN I GET A WITNESS"

  • She sounds like the gargoyles from Fable II.

  • Always gets me laughing. What a great scene.

  • Sorry, I'm not English, can I ask where depravity of Holmes is, when he just says "doilies"?

  • @bannothepianist

because at first watson thinks its a genuine fortune being told, but it turns out that holmes paid her to say those things to tease watson about going into married life. If you look earlier in this scene, you see holmes discreetly pay the woman before meeting with watson, walking down the alley, then running into her.

  • @byrniemac791 But I still don't get the ambiguity in the word "doilies", does it have any second meaning that has something to do with sexual aspects?

  • @bannothepianist Ah, no. I'm pretty sure Watson's question about depravity means he pretty much figured out at this point that Holmes was having him on.

  • @CyricZ Thank you!

  • this movie is so full of HoYay, it is practically Brokeback Mountain without R-rated scenes.

  • @Aysannes Another fellow Troper!

  • @laughingman1138 merely a fan of Tropes, but it is my pleasure non-the-less :D

  • @Aysannes I understand. I do not have a TV Tropes account, but I am ALWAYS on the site! A pleasure indeed :)

  • I should've suspected that he hired that gypsy lady to give Watson that fortune. He's not the sort of guy to believe superstition (Unless, in this case, it's to his advantage).

  • QuothTheRaven24: No, I see it as well, either Jude just couldn't help himself or it is supposed to be an expression of disbelief. But either way, he definetly smiles. A cute smile he has, too! :-)

  • Does your depravity know no bounds?

    No.

  • The best thing about this movie is that Robert didn't have to prepare for the drug addiction characteristics.

  • 'Does your depravity know no bounds?'

    'No...'

    Classic

  • best line from movie: "are they EXTENSIVE!?"

  • "does your depravity know no bounds..."

    "NO..."

  • Is it just me or does Watson look like he's starting to smile at 0:26?

It might just be me. XD

  • its just u..............

  • How come the Lace Doilies are a giveaway to Holmes?

  • that bitch go big ass eyes

  • Are they EXTENSIVE?!

  • Does you depravity know no bounds?

    No.

    hahahaha gets me everytime.

  • @puckjefloren Indeed!

  • Does you depravity know no bounds?

    No.

    hahahaha gets me everytime.

  • I got this, or as the my friend would," I copped that"

  • Robert Downey jr, best actor of our time. Versatile, serious, funny, and he loves blow and hookers. A true Hollywood icon.

  • are they extensive?

  • what of the warts?!

  • "mmm... Doilies."

    Hahaha Holmes. =)

  • Holmes, Does your depravity know no bounds?......No

LOL cracks me up every time XD

  • I don't really understand why Watson reacts to the "dollies" line like he does. Is there a subtext to it, or something?

  • @RushLimborg No, he just acts as if lace doilies are the worst thing that could ever happen to a person- Holmes is a bit of a dramaqueen when it comes to Watson and Mary :P

  • mmmmmmmmmm doilies ......

  • im not going to say this is the funniest thing i've ever seen, but it certainly is the funniest thing i've seen latelly. maybe even on par with mad tv's jo esterhouse or maybe even stella's fake flashdance. Hell i'de fuck a retard for this amount of funny. passion? no?

  • "Hm. Doiliees..." lmao

  • the lace doilies gave holmes away........things went dwnhill frm there

  • ARE THEY EXTENSIVE??!!

  • The last six seconds NEVER fail to make me almost die of laughter! BAHAHAH and RDJ's face at the end is gold :)

  • Actually, it is quite obvious Downey Jr studied Brett's performances.

  • @hibernatinghedgehog

    I'd agree! Downey Jr.'s like an embellished Brett--just in a "faster-paced" movie.

  • "Mm. Doilies."

    Brilliant. :)

  • ARE THEY EXTENSIVE?!

    Slays me every time xD

  • XD and then I love how Holmes says, "...Doilies?"

  • What of the warts?

    Oh, she's covered in warts!

    ARE THEY EXTENSIVE?!

  • robert downey jr is by far the best actor i have ever seen, nomatter what role he playes he somehow makes it better than the creator originaly intended,

  • @ThePunisher129 Actually, Jeremy Brett is a superlative Holmes.

  • hahaha ARE THEY EXTENSIVE?!

That cracks me up every time.

  • i love this scene!
