I think it's just to represent that a lot of people now might give up the 'two-party' system and begin viewing independents and other parties as viable candidates.

That's assuming that we can get past this huge hump of "voting for the lesser evil." Voters are smart and know that the majority of other voters are about half and half republican/democrat. Independents get stuck with the choice of voting against the person you hate the most, or voting for the candidate you like the most just to have them loose. Voting against the person you hate the most has the most effect, and until the majority stops doing that we're stuck with the bipartisan system.
