  • i cant move that fast even without sticks

  • This is God-damn MAGIC stuff going on right there...

  • Anybody else's face melt at 5:32?

  • he's playing with a track!! because thats a song of his band!! ..and how you can say that he's doing playback? -.-

  • Problem with solo performances, is that they have a "sportive" side to them, leading fans and critics to start arguing about who is "better". It could be easy to tell who is better if he had well defined parameters of what "better" means. Faster? Harder? IDK. But since performances are more about HOW technique helps to EXPRESS the drummer's musical ideas, it is silly to argue who is better, and much more pointless if you compare musicians of different genres. Just enjoy and learn

  • fucking playback!!!

  • playback..

  • my god he's faster than bloody death metal drummers

  • how much red bull do think he drinks

  • i guess all these people complaining have never played along with a MIDI track. You know what? I didn't see his mouth moving, but someone keeps yelling out "ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR!!" Instead of laughing at someones mistake of dropping a stick and hearing that the track he's playing along with has layered percussion (Wait...they can do that? That isn't illegal??), maybe people should look inward at their own flaws instead of trying to topple the greats that have put in countless hours.

  • where can i get this song? anyone?

  • @Cristopher10986 I know you posted this a year ago. Did you ever get it? It's called Hyper-Beat on an album called Here Comes the Drums! I'm not sure how I got it in my iTunes. I could probably email it to you.

  • Anyone complaining that 'someone else is playing' obviously doesn't realize that he is emulating a pretty basic jungle/drum and bass production standard in a live setting. Amen breaks are more often than not (in traditional jungle/dnb) layered underneath the programmed hits (in this case, johnny's drumming).

  • freakin' crazy

  • man, that left-hand work is really impressive. nice 'break-neck' tempo *rave,Hip-Hop groove. and he's developed a very ergonomic, "short range of motion' hand and arm system here that allow execution of a very tight, fast beat.

if you attempted this and didn't know how to facilitate it ( see: above description i just layed out there! lol) you would fail in seconds. arms and hands must be down to only Inches of motion to maintain this type of rapid tempo and still maintain feel. wow.

  • Lol! omg! that is the baddest friggin' left-hand Snare Press work, i think i've ever seen. yeah, Mangini does it too, and amazingly. i mean, to sit there at this tempo, hold all 3 other limbs down for the groove, and just ONE HAND, is press-Rolling like that, with NO intrerruption in even-ness or anything, Lol! come on!!

just unreal. this dude is killer. so is Johnny Lang.

  • @drumdude46 thomas lang*

  • @SgtCrazy128 Lol! thank you, yes. Thomas Lang. ( get my Johnnys and Thomas' Mixed up! ha-ha) both amazing players, yes? cheers mate!

  • L balance R=perfect

  • don't lose your soul sun

  • (shenstone) unless you see him in person you won't understand how he is able to keep a beat like that. he is that good and that fast. I have seen him twice once on an acoustic set and the other on a roland TD20 and it is still hard to believe that he is the only one creating all that sound at that speed.

  • Thats the bad side of the gravity roll, loss of control because you only have a 2 finger grip!He over uses it in his demo's,But its cool neverless!

  • he s not dropping them, he s just changing them.

  • check out my drum videos

  • amazing.

  • that looks like a lot of fun :D

  • DRUM N BASS IN UR FACE

  • Hahaha...yeah I hear it too...weird?

  • whats the song called?

  • when i hear him playin i think of toonami off cartoonnetwork long time ago. cool drummin tho

  • He makes the freehand technique look so easy and natural.

  • he also drops his stick before he even starts on the Johnny Rabb Live -2, he needs to use some gaff tape or maybe even staple the fn stick to his hand. I've only watched him 4 times and he dropped his sticks 2 times. Good thing he's not a Brain Surgeon...."uh Nurse could you get that.......uh, that set of channel locks I dropped inside this guys head please....... Damm I need a Frapp".................

  • He should release an album! This shit is the nuts

  • if anyone knows johnny rabb, theyd he is a every fast drummer.

  • Yes, he is over dubbed to death. He just plays the foundation beat, the rest is all computer. No surprise here.

  • @5drum5 - You're wrong. He has incredible control with single stick rolls. Check out the vid at the 2007 Chicago drum show where he's giving lessons. The first 1:13 is on an electronic kit and cool for what it is, but watch the whole vid. He sits at an acoustic kit and give a few insights into his technique. VERY helpful and informative.

  • shenstone's right.

  • this is so boring :S all the time doing the same rhythm :/ and why does he have to do those movements, he looks like a retard

  • i think that is playback...

  • Its just so damn precise, clean, rythmical!!!! freaking amazing!

  • no hay español ¡?

  • c est monstrueux ce qui fait !!!!!

  • johnny rabb is fun to watch as well as listen to because he looks like he is having fun. try watching the vid of him explaining free hand technique on his front lawn. it's like having charlie sheen teach you drumming.

  • what is the song called? Or is that not important.

  • Jojo Mayer, Marco Minnemann, and Thomas Lang are all masters of breakbeats.

  • shame he dropped the stick at 1:18, but I am curious that I can still hear drums at 1:23 when he bends down to pick up the stick....am I missing something here?

  • no, he just is doing his technique with one hand as usual... hahah its just 2nd nature to him!

  • having watched it again (and again 325 times) my issue regarding 1.23 is resolved....it is very subtle, but I will conceed he is actually generating the noise....my error...sorry for ever doubting you Mr Rabb :-)

  • He's still playing with his right foot and left hand as he picks up the stick... he's a talented guy!

  • @shenstone LOL.. i ididnt notice that until i read your comment :P

  • @shenstone u cant hear the ride at that part..

    notice?

  • @shenstone its probably recorded already so that if that happens he wont lose his groove not saying he would

  • @shenstone he is johnny rabb. dont question it

  • @shenstone

    Youre missing his left hand.

  • @shenstone

I guess you´re missing his leg leg opening the hi-hat :)

  • @shenstone he keeps playing with his other hand?

  • @shenstone I think that some of his sound man works for Jessica Simpson 'cause I can plainly hear drums while he is "NOT" playing as he picks up his sticks, he's got some drum licks on that backing track, can he say PLAYBACK PLEASE.....an-uh-one.....an-uh-two.....an-uh, never mind someone fire the sound recordist..............he's got me lookin stupid out here.................

  • @shenstone if you check him out on the Chicago Drum Show you will see him showng off some of the lec-tronic traps he uses....

  • @shenstone I'm pretty sure he has some drum sampling in the music...I hope.

  • @shenstone He's using triggers and looping, that's why you still hear the phrase he's been playing (sorry to awaken an old post)

  • @shenstone his left hand is still playing the snaredrum.. its like with magic - you allways look at the wrong place ;o)

  • @shenstone he's using sample's/loops - like in his part IV movie. Listen at the begining.

  • Comment removed

  • @shenstone I realize that your comment here seems to be 1 year old - but I heard/saw the same thing!...still, regardless, he was clearly doing a "workout" here...

  • @davss5 1 year old but still alive and kicking! merry xmas

  • @shenstone Since you replied, then you must be alive and kicking!...thanks for the holiday greetings...although I'm a born-again believer (actually a specific type called a Messianic Jew), I don't officially celebrate Christmas - but I do appreciate that a day has been chosen to celebrate His birth...anyway, thanks again...

  • @shenstone I watched that part three times to make sure and he ain't playing at all but somebody sure as hell is!! LAME!!

  • @HardRockDrummer666 after he drops the stick what ur hearing is the snare and the bass. both of which do not require the right hand stick. if u listen u can hear the cymbal hes playing before he drops the stick and then u no longer hear it when he drops the stick. the rest is just the beat hes playing along with

  • @Ryanb895 Like as in a TWO DRUMMER scenario then?! Him playing along with a preset beat - hence the drums still playing whe he in fact is not...?? I can buy that for a dollar! Makes sense when you say it THAT WAY!! LOL... I do it all the time with mine as well... Thanks!

  • @shenstone Maybe your missing he's got two hands...

  • @Fikmonskov he's clearly not using any hands and still playing rolls on the snare

  • @shenstone i think the video couldn't keep up with him lmao XD

  • @shenstone

NO WAY......could he be the new Milli Vanilli of percussion ??? Stick syncing

  • @shenstone I think everything is really good programmed but not good enough for the Stick Dropping...

  • @shenstone What he's doing is picking up another stick for his right hand while he hits the snare and the high-hat at the same time with his left hand. The ride sound clearly ends when he drops the stick. ;)

  • @shenstone he has a drum n' bass track playing

  • @shenstone yes. An intellect you ButtCunt ... remember that one time when we all have three other limbs to play drums with while we pick up a stick, ButtCunt

  • @shaideisaiah Its a shame you cant string a sentence together without an insult (and not a very original one at that) . . no matter, maybe your have another talent in life you can fall back on.

  • @shenstone its probably the backing track on his sample pad.

  • @shenstone he is playing to a track that has some percussion sounds in it.

  • Amazingly cool, but Jojo is better for me...

  • jojos got the best technique and feel of any drummer today in my opinion

  • I like talking to people in videos like this. You people know what you're talking about. I just got into an argument with a dude that said Travis Barker is "the best of our time, if not the best ever." REALLY??? He also said he's been playing drums for 15 years....and he still thinks Barker is the best....WOW.

  • It's best to just avoid people like that ;]

  • @DevilDriver14 I've been playing for 30 years and I used to be that way too - Neil Peart (for years) was the undisputed champion of all rock drumming, in fact ALL drummers in the world! - and nobody would dare say anything different in my presence. ha ha.. Somebody just needs to open their minds to new genres - Dave W., Vinnie C., Steve G., - if you have to "guess" who they are, you're not really a drummer at all...

  • @kbjohnso3 So you're saying the most important thing about being a drummer is to know the names of other drummers? Dude, that just proves that you know nothing, or very little about drumming and dismisses just about every opinion you have in the matter.

  • @DevilDriver14 Rabb will tell you in clinics that there are a number of drummers out there that do the same as he does. Most are from Europe. It's the thing to mimic sampled beats. I think Marco Minnemann is one of the greatest drummers of all time for his technicality.

  • @DevilDriver14 i belive that cant be a best drummer.. styles changes everything.. and i love this guy.. portnoy.. the rev (rip)..joey jordison. AND travis barker.. why travis barker?.. well.. he has a incredible presition.. i never seen him make a mistake and his quality of playing its awesome u have to watch a live drumcam video to notice. for me there are all awesome drummers.. (and i know there are much more better drummers out there for me to find out like tomas lang.. etc..)..

  • @Tiziano182 one of the smartest comments iv read in a while.

  • he might look like a cyborg but if you notice what he's doing carefully.. it's amazing.. so skillful and its hard to play like this man! 5 STARS!

  • man this is good. this is very good. but sorry man. i can't hold it any longer...

    JOJO MAAAAAAYEEEEEEER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Now I know he's just a cyborg :)

  • Jojo's got some competition!! :D

  • wtf? is he on a 100 cups of coffee an hour diet or something?

  • yer johnny shreds bud

  • Massive DRUM AND BASS!!!!!!

  • way too nervous, check out JoJo mayer...

  • Why did you record it on fast forward?

  • that makes absolutely no sense at all :L

  • DUUUUUUUUUH

  • fast forward??!! lmao this is real time... johnny is beast you should know by now its not fast forward.

  • is a robot!!

    monotone ........but is cool

  • Wow! Those are skillz. New fan now

  • try it ;)

  • i've tried it many many many times. ;)

  • and it your head it must have sounded just like him xD

  • its not sped up at all

  • LMAO, what makes you think that?

  • Hahahahaha.

    Good one!

  • because its totally possible to speed up a live performance in front of people *sarcasm* how about next time you play a gig, put yourself into windows media player and speed up your whole body. you're retarded.

  • WHAT A BEASTTTTT

  • his neck and arm movements actually make him look like a robot lol

  • some people call him Johnny Robbo

  • Excellent talent ! Irreversible impression ! 100% Tech & No & Id +)

  • Yeah - because every good musician is just talented...

  • he is just bouncing the stick of the rim to make it seem like a buddy rich one handed roll

  • That's exactly what buddy rich did, doucher. Learn technique.

Rabb is the one of the most precise gravity blasters out there. Not to mention an incredible musician.

  • Buddy rich did a one handed role, uncontrolled.

Free hand is controlled and precise. btw. Gravity blast is just te name Metalheads gave it so it would be accepted as a Blastbeat.

  • u really are an idiot

  • get drunk, listen to this, and dance. haha

  • I'm surprised that Johnny hasn't been written into a movie somehow, like maybe if they filmed some scenes of the new terminator movie, taken from the viewpoint of the future in terminator land, then Johnny could have a walk on part playing drums in a terminator nightclub, he'd appear superhuman like a robot and they wouldn't have to fake anything, he could just be himself...superhuman!

  • hes awesome enough to be the terminator

  • I know he is insane fast, but am I the only one who thinks this looks sped up? Please don't flame me, I know it isn't, but it looks that way...

  • Minimalistic movements give him the speed. ;)

  • Yeah, I know what you mean.

It's the way he moves around I guess.

  • if u watch the place where he drops the stick, it looks normal

  • omg at 1:18 when he drops his stick, and just keeps on playing!

  • He's known for doing 1071 single strokes in a minute... Superhuman....

Hes the worlds fastest drummer and a sick drum and bass player!!

  • He's not the fatest...

  • of course not. hes not fat at all.

if you mean fastest, he hold the record for most SINGLE strokes per minute

  • Single stroke record is 1203 BPM, by Mike Mangini.

  • It was his ancient record. There's a video of Mike on Youtube when he's making his 1247 single strokes at the WWD

  • Ah, okay, my bad.

  • @superbond2 yes, but can he actually play interesting music?

Johnny Rabb plays actual music, sure he is blistering fast, but frankly, that is the least impressive part about him.

  • @superbond2 ... a meaningless record if there ever was one

  • @superbond2

its aorund 1400 bpm the Mike Mangini record

  • the snare sounds are fantastic

  • wtf hes awasome fast :o

he do with one hand what the most do with two

  • i bet that dudes a fucking robot

  • woow hese a bit fast

  • he set a Guinness record for speed

  • lol i can believe tht. wat was his record ??

  • fast single strokes i think...i'm not sure and it's probly old so look into it...

  • он бог в этом деле)

  • i love this style of playing i see him playing this peace live it was great feeling

  • wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fucking flubbed majorly with the stick drop at 1:18. i thought i was the only one that happened to lol...

  • every rabb solo sounds the same to me... any i've heard anyway...

  • this is not a solo but his song called hyperstep (from myspace). he is playing to the original record, what you can hear in the background when he drops his and picks it up.

  • the best!!!!!!

  • So cool! His face looks rly funny at times :D 5/5

  • Hell Yeaahh!!! Johnny Robbo!!!

  • looks like that chris cunningham-monkey ^^

  • i cant watch this bcoz it sayz vidio is no longer available

  • pa cabezearla

  • how come at 1:23 he stops playing but there's a drum fill going on? it's pretty cheap that he's playing with backing drums, that's like playing a guitar solo with part of it pre-recorded.

Don't get me wrong, I have the Johnny Rabb goofy ass video from the nineties when he started capitalizing on the single handed roll and I've thought he was badass since.

  • He still plays the stuff you hear when he drops it? You can clearly see that, just the ride sound dissappears for a while.

  • Hey DominicRivera33

Maybe he's playing to a sequenced track? (Drums and all)

    But then you knew that.............................

    Come on man! Cheap?

It sound's pretty sick to me. Maybe you should upload something that sounds just as good without it being produced similarly!

Or maybe you can play like this yourself?

And please don't get me wrong,

Because I'd love to see that.

  • Well, the irony is me and my best friend are currently working on a drumset duet, but that's the same as having backing drums, just literally. haha.

Yeah, I suppose "cheap" is too harsh an adjective... just... surprising and a little disappointing. it's an unnecessary filler.

  • all he really has is the one handed roll...which is reallyy bad ass i need to learn that shiiettt

  • what a sick drummer

  • what band does he drum for?

  • biodiesel

  • ОЯЕБУ

    Под фанеру катать это прикольно

  • a kurva annyát nekije... (he's really good!)

  • XD beteeg =D

  • what is the name of this song i need it on my ipod, because of johnny rabb benny greb and andrea vadrucci i am now with meinl

  • gravity blast
