I had the privilege of doing a staged production of Saul with Paul Esswood back in the mid '80s. It was my first time hearing and working with a countertenor, and I will never forget that wonderful experience. These were the ornaments he used in those performances - I loved them so much, I wrote them into my score. Thank you for posting this!

Such a beautiful variation! Paul captures great warmth and shows some wonderful vocal strength along with his distinct vibrato which I always find very pleasing. The imagery is also very beautiful and well-matched to the gorgeous music. Thank you Stephen for this new creation!
