Ciao Miss Lang. Beautiful review. Is this really the first car with a diesel engine in the States?
I have a BMW 325 turbodiesel from 1998 (model E36) with a lovely straight six engine...
Petrol is very expensive in Europe (over $8 U.S. dollar per gallon), so that 's the reason why we have many cars with diesel engines. The majority 3 series which have been sold in my country are 4 cilinder diesels (316d and 318d and 320d). You're testing the 335d which costs over 80.000 US dollars (in my country
Ad blue acts as a catalyst to reduce emissions. Too much emphasis on going green nowadays! Doesn't one get fed up with all this "we must go green"? I most certainly do.
Nice Jessi, I like the gas version more though. Only because here in the states Diesel isn't at alot of gas stations except for the major ones. but then again a few more are poping up around the country like you said in at 1:30. I hope it does take off though, I really like the idea of the clean diesels. Is it alot more money over the gas models? How well do these Diesels work in the cold? I know Diesels of the past have problems in cold temperatures.
@Forgoten214 Where did you hear that diesels don't work well in cold weather, they work fine
You'll save money with diesels only if you use the car a lot, I mean at least 20 000 miles a year, because diesel engines are under a lot more pressure than petrol engines so problems are a bit more frequent, so services can be costly, and because of the pressure engines must be tougher, and a bit heavier so handling can be a bit "different"
@Mik5OO I agree that diesels should be fine in cold weather. Nevertheless, owner's manual does warn that at temps below 32 F it might take slightly longer to start - glow plugs heating I suppose. But for cost, I don't agree. I got BMW's $3500 eco-credit. Compared to 328i, fuel will save over 20% with diesel less than premium. I don't think there are any figures for this particular engine for reliability and repair cost. Was designed as diesel, so should be fine; 335i is bad.
