Most of these brands used Crouzet asynchronous 110/220 Volt motors at 25-40 rpm. Some effects also used 24V DC motors so you could control the amount of rpm and sometimes the direction. For that you would need a dedicated controller which was often optional.
Hi. Not too sure what you mean by an igniter as they are lit by a large 24v halogen lamp.
Pulsar light in Cambridge carry a few spares for these as thats where I got all the parts to re-build mine about four years ago. The halogen bulb is available at any good disco hire shop.
There was also an Astrodisco with SN-250 gas discharge lamp. Unfortunately, this lamp type was discontinued a long time ago and I think it will be very difficult to get an igniter for it.
Hey what a treat to find this posting! I have a clay paky astron 3 hanging in my garage in full working order following a complete re-build! And you played Hamilton Bohannon too! Good job mate!!
By the way, where can I find a Satel Oxis? The club in my town used to have one and they used to fill it with smoke for extra effect but that was over twenty years ago!
I now have 8 classic light effects. Most of them I simply bought from the internet, they were offered on websites with 2nd hand stuff. They all needed complete renovation and replacement of several parts after being ignored for 25+ years though.
WOW! That Hit The Decks style disco mix with all the 1992 sample drops was SICK!!! The first track was the best, what is that one?
As for the lights, the 3 motor UFO owns them all! I'd like to get one but they're so big and _heavy_. Fantastic video! I was waiting for a new one from you for a long time. :)
Thanks, glad you like the video! The mix is the 1992 Dance Classics Party Mix on the Arcade label. The first track is Bohannon, Let's start II dance again.

Did you modify the Astro Disco for DMX or was that one of the last models Clay Paky made before discontinuing?
DJLoop1995 1 year ago
@DJLoop1995: it is modified, Clay Paky never made a dmx version of this effect since it was discontinued before dmx was invented.

Yes, It is very hard to find an igniter that size. I have a small halogen bulb in it now. It works but not as bright.
