Unfortunately the flooding will demonstrate just how unprepared and inadequate the emergency services are in the philippines to cope with a national emergency of any kind. Just one look at the major fire station in makati reveals how any disaster in manila or anywhere in pi would be depended on outside foreign assistance for the pi to cope. Sad but true.
hindi naman po lahat..here in albay we are more prepared than before..after typhoon reming (oct. 2006,900+ dead, 700+ missing), people here are more informed about disaster preparedness and mitigation.. kapag nagdeclare ng evacuation, evacuate na agad, kahit signal number 1 p lang...kaya zero casualty n halos dito sa mga sumunod na bagyo... hope these guys are alright though...
I have to agree with u there. Down there in Bicol is notorious for problems such as Volcano, earthquake and flooding. My mahal is there in Sorsogon they have flooding south of there. At least there is more emphasis now on evacution than ever before. But pi still needs a large amount of cash to go into emergency services and relief effort.

One of the worst storms in 1970 was a typhoon that killed 300,000 people in Bangladesh. There was another that hit in chinese history that killed at least 1 million people. The death toll was probably a lot higher since this was before weather radar was around. They never saw it coming. Don't get me wrong. I am praying for the filipinos.

To the Media Titans of the Philippines Please dont wait people to donate.. Do it yourself now. Even if a scenario where the government/people/structure is all good and perfect, Murphy's law will prevail. It's sad this happens and a grim reminder on what we do alter the course of nature. We built, re-routed rivers and sometimes stopped the flow of rivers but in the end it will always find it's way.

Corruption in our country is very systemic and it is obviously embedded in our system..This could be the primary reason why people reacted so harsh in dealing with this kind of hardship that we Filipinos are now facing. It is but understandable that we point fingers and cast on blames since deep inside we were already corrupted and yet we try so hard to resist..blaming the gov't is definitely right since in essence the GOVERNMENT is the People. thus, the blame spares NONE.

Unfortunately the flooding will demonstrate just how unprepared and inadequate the emergency services are in the philippines to cope with a national emergency of any kind. Just one look at the major fire station in makati reveals how any disaster in manila or anywhere in pi would be depended on outside foreign assistance for the pi to cope. Sad but true.

hindi naman po lahat..here in albay we are more prepared than before..after typhoon reming (oct. 2006,900+ dead, 700+ missing), people here are more informed about disaster preparedness and mitigation.. kapag nagdeclare ng evacuation, evacuate na agad, kahit signal number 1 p lang...kaya zero casualty n halos dito sa mga sumunod na bagyo... hope these guys are alright though...

I have to agree with u there. Down there in Bicol is notorious for problems such as Volcano, earthquake and flooding. My mahal is there in Sorsogon they have flooding south of there. At least there is more emphasis now on evacution than ever before. But pi still needs a large amount of cash to go into emergency services and relief effort.

yes it does...but here in albay, we've been upgrading our emergency services since reming... obviously, funding didn't come from the national government rather it came from foreign groups/organizations...but its much better that way than no funding at all..

In a way that is true, but you also cannot stop mother nature from being powerful. This storm is nothing compared to storms that hit before global warming... One of the worst storms in 1970 was a typhoon that killed 300,000 people in Bangladesh. There was another that hit in chinese history that killed at least 1 million people. The death toll was probably a lot higher since this was before weather radar was around. They never saw it coming. Don't get me wrong. I am praying for the filipinos.

Being unmoved is one thing but to wish more disaster to a nation is a sheer wickedness of heart. God says, when your own calamity comes upon you, God will repay you for what you have sowed. Obviously, you are not a God-fearing person because of unkindness that clothed your heart.
