Almost all railroad ties and telephone poles are treated with creosote, so seeing that this one is shouldn't be any surprise to anyone. As for it's reported toxicity you and the wildlife should be just fine as long as you don't eat or rub large amounts of it on your skin. The tar is oil based so it won't runoff, and small amounts have been used in a number of medicines. Sheco should put a small fence up to protect wildlife though.

This stuff has great potential. The "reporter" character is attractive and perky. George certainly is interesting.

But, if you are going to do fake investigative reporting, consider the comedic possibilities--

A sudden appearance of Ethecius I, like Charlton Heston as Moses, but toting a huge pistol. His voice booms, "Set my beavers free!"
