  • The title of the song is In The Mouth A Desert, no of in there

  • Andy Wade RIP

  • @epitaphster your my dude never forget it

  • @epitaphster - Who's that?

  • @BayviewFinch Our friend who recently committed suicide. This was his song.

  • @epitaphster - Sorry to hear about that. Hopefully he's in a better place now.

  • the chimes used a 8 seconds are hilarious

  • scappati da casa XD

  • To much love

  • crowned, the king of id

  • i was born in 1990 and raised on pavement, god i love my parents!

  • @dylan2323 I was born in 1990 and raised on Beatles and Paul McCartney, god I love my parents!

  • mmm Sonic Youth mentioned... reminds me how I came to know Pavement ... 1991 or 92 Manchester Academy Sonic Youth Dirty Tour ...backing band Pavement... totally amazed by the stage presence of Malkmus, Gary Young (ex nutty drummer), Bob, Spiral Stairs and Mark I.... amazingly amazing live .... you cant really get this unless you were there quite the same way as you can by listening to the album version. Malkmus is chronically spazzy and brilliant!

  • this their best, unless someone wants to link me to a better pavement song

  • @vaf88

That depends, what have you heard?

  • @sushilll111 so can you give me some song names please?

  • @vaf88

Some of my favorites are Grounded, Fillmore Jive, The Hexx, All My Friends, Shoot the Singer, Pueblo... I dunno theres so many

  • This is fucking mind-dumbing music. God damn they suck ass.

  • @undeadpresident another metalhead trolling actual music. you're a cool kid.

  • @TheBensont123 I play more than metal and have an appreciation for music of all varieties, but this is just like listening to a bunch of down syndrome cases who have only played for a year.....it's just terrible I don't know what anyone could see in it.

  • @undeadpresident if you don't "get" it that's all fine and well.. just don't say a sweeping generality like it "sucks" when that's simply your opinion.

  • @maybesproutwings Ok, I'll be a little bit more descriptive. They play nearly monotone, out of tune, barely in rythm, demonstrating an incredible lack of playing ability for supposedly professional musicians. Their lyrics lack any sort of substance whatsoever. I can't stand listening to it because their lack of talent feels contagious. If they were 12 years old in a garage playing I might be sympathetic, but being adults, their amazing lack of ability hints at mental retardation.

  • @undeadpresident

Yet they are already cannonized in musical history as overlooked, genius songwriters, Pavement often being considered the single greatest band of the ninties. You are entitled to your opinion, but if you put headphones on and listen to a better quality version of this song and dont get completely lost in it, I feel sorry for you.

  • @undeadpresident

the 'flaws' you mention in this song are a part of what makes this band unique and listenable compared to the squeaky-clean 'perfect' productions you hear every day on radio and TV. Pavement are the antithesis of mainstream corporate music. By using out of tune chords and difficult, seemingly out of time rythyms, they are taking their own path, not following the herd. They explore sounds you wouldn't normally hear which actually makes them more intelligent than most bands.

  • @undeadpresident The four pillars of 90s indie rock: Sonic Youth, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr. and PAVEMENT!

  • @gmx1100 Sonic Youth is terrible as well.

  • @undeadpresident

ARE, dude. ARE. WTF is the american obsession with IS. they're not, anyway.

  • @mattloque I think that you could go with either "is" or "are," as a reference to "youth" would be plural, but the reference to a band would be singular....but big deal, language is an organic thing which changes anyway. What bothers me is when people "axe" a question lol.

  • @undeadpresident I think Sonic Youth's music is a blessing to mankind. Just my opinion. I think the Grateful Dead's music is pretty awful. However, I don't completely understand it, so my opinion about it is really not worth much.

  • @gmx1100 If you like it more power to you. I got a CD of Sonic Youth several years ago. I couldn't stand listening to it and figured maybe I was just missing something and held onto it. A few months later I popped it in again, still couldn't stand it, but I still held onto it. A couple of years passed, I listened to it one more time....nope, couldn't stand it, so I tossed it out.

  • @undeadpresident fair enough, you gave them an honest try! i respect that.

  • @gmx1100 yeah, well a lot of people can't stand the music I make either hahaha

  • @undeadpresident See, I heard them at 14 and it was love at first hearing. Same with the Swans, who you would likely hate as well (though their later stuff is very rootsy, folky, so maybe not)

  • @undeadpresident

Man, you favorited Avril Lavigne. So, get lost with this flagrant depreciation of two of the finest American rock bands, as if your opinion mattered.

  • My fav song by these guys!!!

  • Good work with the lyrics in the description, i think 'I see your bag like a little dog' should be ' I see you beg like a little dog'

Saw them in Dublin in May, absolute class, this is in my top 3 pavement songs....

  • Seeing them tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Were amazing...still amazing. 90's setters. I applaud deeply

  • It's what I want

  • best band of the 90's right here

  • beautifull song, for ever!

  • @undeadpresident Get out. Pavement is awesome.

  • this song makes me feel like im drowning

    and i love that

  • its "In the Mouth a Desert"

  • This is REAL indie rock.

  • @ejb72 Slanted and Enchanted

  • this is the lost music of a generation drowning in the Sup Pop, grunge, post punk explosion as well as the aftermath. pavement is timeless nontheless. they serve as an example of dedication to all things GREAT! we knew what we wanted.. we didnt need MTV's help.

  • i love acid

  • one of their best i think

  • wow cool nice upload

  • slanted and enchanted, great album. Wowee Zowee has to be the best though? This has to be one of their best tunes though.

  • @12aprilfool They're both incredible albums. Wowee Zowee was their white album!

Listening to these songs again really brings back the memories. I was in college at this time. Summer babe- is stil my favorite Pavement song. Good times

  • I heard the basslines were created by tuning a guitar to C....is that true?

  • Slanted and Enchanted

  • ka ching! on the money!

  • So I just noticed Malkmus freaks out on the guitar this whole song, other than the riff. Dude is freaking amazing!

  • Oh, yeah- the BEST song off of Slanted and Enchanted! It still gives me chills.

  • I miss 90s indie music. It wasn't about having a "too cool" ironic front, or stupid "ironic" glasses, or even that irritating and STUPID hipster drawl. They were just a bunch of nice schlubs who wrote kickass, one of a kind, noisy pop tunes.

Like 85% of so called "indie" artists today take themselves way too seriously. When I see bands like The Raconteurs, or Arcade Fire in interviews and music videos I puke in my mouth. It's pompous, pretentious, and they got no soul. Hipsters suck!

  • Pavement are the kings of the indie world! todays music is fucking shit, all the gay scene emo bands all do the same shit they all just copy each other and its the same shit u listen to over and over and over wow...how fun. Indie music today is nothing but little pieces of shit left by pavement.

  • fricken legends

  • One of the best bands ever that now are back together!! They´re going to play here in Spain in May!! :)

  • does anyone have mandolin tabs for this?? if so message me...also...how can i get my guitar to sound like this song without screaming into my pick ups? do i need a better guitar? i have a less paul egyptian custom with ernie ball strings and blue linksys modem control for the volume knob, it gets the job done but id rather go for what this band uses to get more fans.

  • @Bottlenek6

    the chords are

    CCCCCCCC

    EEEEEEEE

    GGGGGGGG

    BBBBBBBB

put yr less paul egyptian custom in the bin and string the bin up with a unwound coathanger and it still wont sound as good

  • @peanutpeanut123

thanks for your help..i just got done trying it, it was hard to string up the bin and tune it but def. worth it...alot better that playing my skinflute along with this song thanks for all the help everyone

  • Stephen Malkmus is a lyrical mastermind. Pavement is second only to Sonic Youth. Sonic Youth Takes #1 because they are still around.

  • my all time fave pavement tunes thanks for the post!!

  • You surely can't go wrong with Pavement!

  • Could be the most underrated band of the 90's...these guys had it for sure! Great tune.

  • @TheMundaneman Most under-rated band EVER!!!

  • @TheMundaneman they wanted it that way as they seemed determined to stay away from mainstream success. The early cassettes of their debut album did not even come with song titles! But yes, they are among the best of the '90s.

  • I really love this song!! it makes me feel so excited

  • i've been crowned the king of Id....

I've been down, the king of Id.

  • Pfft, whose table isn't a trust knot? Mine is.

  • Fucking Incredible!!!!!!

  • nice one

  • the drums in this song are just beastly!

  • one of the first songs i learned on guitar love it

  • the first lines always get me

  • fuck yeah

  • F**cking AWESOME! damn right!

  • F*cking awesome!

  • in the mouth A desert!

  • hope the rumours r true 20 years, changed the way i saw music for ever fuckin quality

  • there was a AWESOME version of this song LIVE, with a great solo. It had been removed, no one knows where to find it ?

  • i know what video youre talking about...ive been trying to find it too =(

  • thanks!

  • mi favorite song!!

  • Thank you very much Emily! This song has more confidence and cool than most whole albums.

  • are there any known live recorded versions of this song? i'd feel a little more complete knowing

  • yeah. In their re-release of Slanted and Enchanted (Luxe & Reduxe) there is a live recording from their show at Brixton Academy, London, Dec. 14, 1992. It's the last track of the second disk. i believe. and then Steven Malkmus played it at, uh, Pitchfork 2007, and there's a decent recording of that on youtube somewhere. it's a really bad performance though. I'd get Luxe & Reduxe.

the song is called In the Mouth A Desert, not Of A desert, by the way...

  • i still love this song

  • slanted and enchanthed

  • No, 'Slanted and Enchanted'

  • this song changed my life in 1991. the best

  • really? how per se did it change your life? whats different now, exactly?

  • Dont be so damned cynical, thats my job.

  • I can't remember the name of this album! I used to have it but it was stolen and I'm trying to find it can someone please tell me the name and record company!

  • What a LOSER!

Fucking look it up yourself dude, expand your mind and learn something about the band that you like. I mean - come on you might learn something interesting...

  • i like how this message went from raw hate to semi-inspirational "you piece of shit, here's a dope book that i think will really help you out, i love you"

  • @emilyrl whats up music snob? really. do you prefer to keep this band in your pocket and ward off anyone that gains interest, just because its later than you gained interest? do you have pavements creative license? does be'littling a potential fan make you seem more "cool"? does it make you feel better about yourself?? music is meant for all to enjoy. so the girl forgot the name of an album... lets just berate her for it right? no, not right. a fan is a fan.

  • @emilyrl says the person who doesn't even know the name of the song they posted

  • @emilyrl

This is coming from someone who GOT THE NAME OF ONE OF PAVEMENT'S MOST BELOVED SONGS WRONG. I love irony. There is no "of" in the song title, cunt.

  • @crazymiles Whats your problem? Oh wait, I dont care. Congrats youve managed to waste both our time. By the way: Dont like me, want to start calling me names? Hmmm? Then march your happy ass out of my videos.

DISCLAIMER: I'm aware of what the song is called.

  • Wikipedia,n00b

  • Ten points zuleautu! Exactly what first came to my mind as well.

  • well, ejb72, they won't seem to answer you. i believe the album is called "gaucho" and was released on MCA Records in 1981? at least my uncle says so. i wish there was a way to confirm better, but go with that as a start.

  • @ejb72 slanted and enchanted

  • @ejb72

    slanted and enchanted

  • @ejb72

    slanted and enchanted.

    matador records

  • @ejb72 Its Slanted and Enchanted

  • Ha ha... so old school stuff. Allthough one has to admit it works!

  • thank you so much for putting this video up. ive been looking everywhere for this video. its much appreciated

  • One of the most important songs in my life!

  • for me too ;-)

  • this song is sounding very good; thanks for posting so I could listen to it away from home; i have bad videos to great Malkmus' music, you are welcome to criticize it (also no video to a lo-fi version of this song...)

  • i wish pavement cd's werent so damned expensive. Thanks for submitting..check out "AT&T" if you haven't already-

  • amazon has great prices for out of print indie bands, like slint, pavement, dismemberment plan... check it out, specially their used and new section through 3rd party sellers if you are on a budget

  • jesus the important thing here is the song...and the fact that I can listen to it at work right now thanks to emilyrl and youtube.

  • Thank you, honestly.

That is exactly the point I've been trying to get across since I started producing these videos.

  • "I see you beg like a little dog." This might be the answer to your questionable lyrics. Hard to tell with Malkmus though.

  • I don't write the lyrics myself, I just get them off a yahoo search. :)

  • Always brings me back. :) Thank you!

  • thank you.

  • No problem, this is my favorite Pavement song ever.

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you for the hint Miles. Perhaps if you made your own videos they would be more to your standards.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm perfectly relaxed. Your sarcasm was apparent...

  • This song is badass. The video is, perhaps, lacking.

  • The song was the only reason for the video. Do YOU have any videos of your OWN on YOUR own channel?

Everyone wants to judge art yet no one wants to create it...

I invite you to make a video to this song, perhaps that would be better to your taste. Whenever you do I'll be sure to critique it for you.

  • I'm sorry, by "video" I guess I meant "photo".

    WELL DONE!!!
