I used to eat all these foods growing up in the South in the 70's! :-D (of course, we grew most of them)
I wonder how many of these foods kids actually eat today? Not many, I bet. It's hard to even find a grocery store that sells fresh collard greens.
Not that I'm pointing any fingers, though. I certainly turned to the all-mighty chicken nugget on many occasions when my kids were little. Who had time to boil down greens? Now I wish I'd made the time...
@hviw: The Sesame Srreet producers are reluctant to show anything older than 4-5 seasons ago, lately; I suspect part of that has to do with the change to high-definition/wide screen format. If we're lucky, a few specific songs from the late 80s or early 90s might turn up in recent shows--but that's as old as Sesame Workshop is willing to get without remaking a clip, these days.
@JFD62780: The remade version is VERY recent (it first aired a year ago). It uses 3-D animation based on this cartoon, plus a new arrangement of the song (differnt style, vocalist with a silly British accent, and "black-eyed peas" changed to "yummy peas").
@hoopersghost They probably thought "black-eyed" implied racism against blacks! Anyway, "apples for dessert" had me wanting just that when I was little! SSt. was good at inspiring good habits
@hoopersghost I salute you, hooperghost. You are my hero! You are capturing and archiving these precious images from childhood. I have actually cried watching these as they remind me of a time long past. I hope they remain on YT forever
Thumbs up if you're in your late 30s or early 40s and watching this...

There's just one thing that bugs me. 10 collard greens don't go very far.
10 pounds of collard greens would be better overall, considering the fact that they boil down to practically nothing. I love them though.

Do they just not show any old clips anymore? I remember in the 80s they showed stuff that was old even then. I thought that was a tradition.

Yeah! THIS is better! I REALLY don't like it when they re-do classics!

Last time I've seen this was on Sesame Street's 35th Anniversary Special.

Original version? Looks the same to me! ;)
What would they've changed in later episodes? (and when?)
