  • Better quality version:

    /watch?v=Ao-M5TzT75U

  • Stereo on this video has been lost!!

  • wow...it's in stereo...and it's on Youtube!

  • I love the girls Eastern hehehe;]

  • That was great! :)

  • thats pretty good for 240kbps!

though using 448x336 or 512x384 might give better compression ratio...

  • I picked this video because of its plain, white background. I thought of making it 448x336, but decided to go with 480x360 because that's the size of the playback window.

  • Nice job with the picture quality/stereo sound! I managed to get one of my videos in that resolution to be 15fps (240kbps), by dropping the audio to 80kbps 44.1khz stereo. It's all about balance with this stuff...trying to find that happy medium between audio fidelity and video quality.

It would be nice if YouTube would just make stereo the standard so we wouldn't have to go through all this to present our videos properly, eh?

  • neat, did not know you could do that

  • dude, how do I get my uploads to be in stereo????

  • You have to encode the flash video yourself. If the total bitrate is below 350kbps, YouTube will put it up as is without reencoding it.

I used ffmpeg on Linux and listed the command line I used in the video description. You'd probably want to change the 480x360's to 320x240, remove the "-r 10"'s, and split it into two lines, removing the "&&". The first google result for "ffmpeg win32" will give you a decent Windows build of ffmpeg.

  • If you're doing mostly slide shows, you'll probably want to leave it at 480x360. The "-r 10" was to reduce the frame rate to 10fps. If you omit -r it just uses the frame rate of the original video.

  • Thanks, I wanted to change the Tribute to Kent Hovind cartoon into Stereo because a lot of the sound is lost in the compressed version. but i just realized after your description that I would have no idea what to do even if you were here telling me in person. I'm kinda tech-challenged. Thanks anyway.

  • There's a frontend you could try called WinFF, but I've never tried it.

In my command line, most of those options were video quality related, and it was all repeated a second time because I was doing two pass encoding. Something like "ffmpeg -i in.avi -f flv -vcodec flv -b 240k -g 300 -s 480x360 -acodec libmp3lame -ar 44100 -ab 96k -ac 2 out.flv" would work almost as well.
