  • Em que ano foi essa apresentação???

E que força de ataque tem essa violinista!

  • handel composed this to be listened not for you to watch the playing soloists. respect her style.

  • After watching Esther Kim play on numerous videos on Youtube, I have become her fan. Too bad there are people who let her movements bother them. She's not superficial. Quite the opposite, very natural. I can't see the need for a musician to restrain oneself for the few who put appearance above music.

  • She does move a lot! Perhaps she has ants in her.. dress?

  • @Spangley03

id rather have her showing her emotions through moving other then just standing around making things boring

  • oooh, she moves alot.

  • bery noce!!!!

  • Very nice!!!!!!

  • O_O the viola sounds deep enough to be a cello!

  • You forgot Halvorsen :( It was actually him who composed this, based in a Händel theme...

  • dude =D

that girls crazy . she's like the Flea of violin =D

which doesnt make sense at all.

  • Too bad the guy doesn't response for the girl when he obviously does a conversation with her movements, manners and expressions.. not to even talk about the sound. The guy plays good too, but it feels like he's done this one 200 times and so bored with it.. damn..

I wouldn't mind personally if they'd do somersaults while playing, as long as the sound comes out right and it expresses the music and feeling.

Players are a bit out of sync in the latter part, but well.. the idea was good.

  • i think i know what you mean, but standing next to Esther Kim can make anybody look as dull as a dead beatle. she is a ball of fire!, and he has probably trained himself thoroughly to keep posture... either way, they sound incredible!!!

  • OH I wish the audio was better. I love the idea behind this performance. For so young so dynamic.

  • Never seen so big scale of drift in playing before. But It's cute and the perform is so nice.Thank you very much.

  • omg i love how the parts flow with each other

  • how old is this girl?

she plays well, but i dont think i have seen anyone move like that when playing. at least she didnt start running all over the stage.....

  • she move like robot...looooool...but she is very good both of them are goood..this is epic and excellant!!

  • good stuff...

my friends play this a lot...and switch instruments a lot x-x I just play two and they will switch between six or so when playing songs...pretty epic. They perform this very well for 17 year olds...

  • God, why do all the best violinists have to move around so much??? There's that one guy with the freaky face and now the girl who won't stop moving. So cumbersome. This song is tantamount to epic though.

  • I think, as long as you deliver the piece perfectly, moving is not an issue.

  • I think that whole "moving" controversy is very incorrect. It really doesn't matter...just close your eyes and listen. that should give you a very good explanation. The music that is being produced is wonderful.

  • I haven't made up my mind about the moving, although the fact that people are commenting mainly on that and not on the music (which is great by the way) might probably indicate it's not a good idea to move so much in front of an audience. David russell has a superb version for solo guitar (look on youtube) of this piece and i'm sure the music is availiable somewhere.

  • I find it quite refreshing to see an Asian perform with some emotion in their music. The movement is great. I find that a fair amount of motility assists me with certain bowings/passages.

  • that wasnt racist at all -_-

  • I don't know what everyone's bitching about.

I think it's kind of cute that she moves so much. It just proves how much stamina she has and how much the music affects her - she has so much emotional energy she can't just let it out through music, she has to move as well. I think it's a positive aspect, personally.

And honestly, no one asks you to watch. The point is the beauty of the music, not the movements of the performer... D:

  • She moves way too much, I would probably close my eyes and just listen to the music if that were live, but thanks to the internet I can just open a new tab :)

  • the movement is part of the expression. moving like that effects your sound. she's producing a good sound, so she's moving as much as she fucking needs to. prick. :)

  • Thanks for respecting my viewpoint through vulgarity and insult.

  • well ppl have different styles it helps me play better when i move

  • I just listened to another duo playing this song, and these two play Passacaglia a whole lot smoother, sweeter and with more expressiveness. I love it.

  • silly arguments guys come on. she's an adult now (or close to it)! and i've seen her play in a more recent concert. she learned to focus her movements and looks professional--she's just a youngin here so let's stop attacking her because it's rude... and pointless.

  • many of you are rite, theres nothing wrong with moving while playing an instrument. still i kinda agree with the others, she culd hav reserve herself at least with her body. if youre gonna move, put the movement in your arms for a better playing. eratic movements aint gonna do your playing any better.(and for those of you who are picky with grammar and the contents of english, im not dumb. its a lot simpler to use shorter terms.saves my time of youth.)

  • everyone has there own style of playing instruments... end of

  • Spaz.

  • moving is not required, to that extent. shes a little show off

  • its how she expresses her feelings towards the music. i'd say you were jealous.

  • @BDBveggiegirl

I agree, and would like to add that the music isnt seen but heard.

  • id like to see you playing

  • When you can play like THAT, I wouldn't care if you ran laps while doing it. It's entertaining a captivating.

  • Why do so many of you object moving? the old guy on the right is much more controlled and - boring.

  • Doesnt it feel like this version of the duet is slower than other versions at first, then becomes faster than other versions

  • I thought she could play better if she moved less...

  • If I can play violin like that I would jump on stage myself

  • the girl makes me sick with her moves....it is just impossible to enjoy the music...ok i also move in the stage when i play but there r some limits...it makes then the thing impossible to enjoy...anyway sounds not bad at all...

  • that actually is true... I stopped watching after a minute...

  • Maybe she has huntington or parkinson's disease and she can't control her movement

  • what is so bad about moving!?!?!?!?!? as i just said in another reply, it's how they express their feelings toward music! what would you say if someone said "ew, how that person moves makes me sick!" you are so rude.

  • alright alright, sounds good but her movements are obnoxiously over the top. And I don't want to hear any nonsense about "passion" or "musicality." There's a definite line between craftsmanship and showing off.

  • she looks like a rock star at 1:50 lol! good performance though! excessive movements make me seasick.........bleuch...

  • the movements should not detract from the quality of the performance. It was still amazing.

  • The truth is, that it is HE who is always moving closer to her, if you REALLY wanted to know.

Just click around the first quarter of the piece at a few different stages, to get their average positions, then click around the last quarter. She goes back and forth, but he, is constantly inching towards her and not going back. Useless information?

  • he he nah thats true actually now that you mention it. Moving around aside, the music is just wonderful. SO well played and sweet when needed and intense when intense. I love it

  • Jeez, why does everyone make fun of her moving around? It's just her form of expression. Give her a break and just enjoy the passion that is coming from this fantastic piece.

  • nice interpretation, quite creative, though her body movements don't suit the piece. It suits Tchaikovsky etc. lol

  • god she is annoying, she should stop prancing about, stop thinking she is the best violinist on earth and work on tempo and staying in time with other players.

  • without looking at the video I think they sound pretty

  • moving while playing can look really passionate and all that but this is maybe a little excessive

  • i love this video! Esther Kim is awesome but i love Handel's works more...lol :)

  • HOLY COW!! Seriously, that girl looks lile she is out for blood with all that wild thrashing movement and jumping everywhere. Does she not realize that the movements should be aesthetic and not so violent especially when her partner is hardly moving?

  • I think the best is the Nikkanen-Gaisford or the Perlman-Zikerman version.

  • Perlman-Pinky version is the best. here this girl seems to be dancing instead of playing the violin, but her sound is nice.

  • like perlman? place your comment at his. Talking perlman here makes you an idiot.

  • i think the opening tempo is too slow, and not that i mind slower tempi, usually i think they allow for more musical ideas, but in this case, i think it took away from the music ... interesting.

  • She's great. A bit weird to watch indeed :), but excellent playing. Watch some other videos of her - the girl plays so easily still with a sort of perfection. Amazing.

  • can someone tab this for guitar pro? thnx =-)

  • GOOD OR BETTER OR THE BEST (-:

  • famous...

  • not totally together..

  • It sounds fine, but it's so boring and the same all the time. I think someone should remind this girl that she is playing the violin and not ballet. I am sorry to say but you cannot compare these ones here with Perlman and Zukerman. Whoever says it should be ashamed.

  • her movements are natural i can tell she is putting her whole effort in to it..just because she is moving too much doesn't mean she is makig a difference in music

  • lol you're right about the dancing, although i think the slower tempo allows the song to breathe more, more umph to each note.

  • I think this doesn't match up to the Perlman-Zuckerman version. This is much slower and doesn't gain anything from it. Also, the violinist moves around so much, she seems as if she wants to dance, not play the violin.

  • Have anyone heard the Beijing Symphony Orchestra's version of Handel's Passacaglia? It's as slow tempo as this one, just much better for some reason.

  • Slower tempo that the Perlman/Zukerman performance, but does nothing to harm the beauty of this piece.

  • I love the way the violinist moves, I like th expression and besides it is just wonderful playing...

  • I believe the viola player is Phillip Dukes and this was taken from the Menuhin competition held at the Royal Academy of Music, London

  • So his name is Phillip Dukes then? It's interesting how he seems to feel it's beneath his dignity to bow (not "bow as in bowing the violin, but as in saluting to the audience at the end) together with her at the end.

What is his role then? 1). Fellow performer? 2). Her teacher? 3). Hired for the job? 4). Older person doing a favor to give her the opportunity?

  • I don't think so, but I'm not sure. Listen to other recordings on youtubes where you can see/hear the viola better, to get your own impression.

The violin may have have more of the solo.

  • I think the way he backed away and beckoned her at the end he meant for the audience to praise her. So I would go with number 4 lol.

Still it was an excellent performance! Even though I thought she moved a little too much her playing was very fierce and passionate! (b^_^)b

  • oh my gosh, i love how people dislike a complimenting comment . . . read it properly and you might actually pick up I was being nice and asking a question. I wasnt being opinionated, fuck me dead !

  • If you play violin, you should know how wonderful, excellent and nice playing of violinist Esther Kim and the viola player.(Anyone can tell us who play viola?)

  • It is a lovely performance but not better than Perlman-Zukerman. As for it being Gil Shaham on viola - I think not.

  • ahhh she's behind the stand too much!

  • Yes, I hear why you like it better than Perlman/Zukerman, goes a minute less, creates an interest. Love the way she dances her brilliant music. This is a bit like Vivaldi, 'La Follia', yet much happier.

  • this is not gil shaham. (although there is a big resemblance in the hair and head in general). I think u should look up who it really was and correct the title.

  • ok. Does anybody know who is playing the viola?

  • 5 stars here. I love this piece so much

  • Shaham slows down all the time :)

  • I forgot to post this... that girl is so cute. she play it so well with conviction and confidence

  • The viola part is harder than the violin part ;)

  • Better than Perlman and Zukerman ?? Are you kidding ???

  • They're both good in different ways.

This one is a bit girlish.

  • You can´t compare Gods with Mortals.
