@tuba100463 This way a trumpet has a better projection, since trumpet players tend to keep their heads down a little. I believe Dizzy Gillespie was the first to have such a trumpet, but I'm not sure about that...
A jazz contrafact is a musical composition built out of an already existing one, most often by using the original tune's chord progression as a basis for a new composition. "Groovin' High", Dizzy Gillespie is based on "Whispering"
Dizzy played a trumpet w/ the bell swept up like that. He claimed he could hear better, plus the sound gets projected more. Apparently at a gig somebody knocked the horn over, bent the bell like that and he had to play with it anyway and liked it....

@redsox14048 hahaha. I'm inclined to agree with you. With the exception of the mozart adagio performed by Irakere and featuring Paquito d'Rivera - that recording is pure genius. But this is stiff to say the least. Like Dizzy is desperately trying to teach Maurice how to swing right there on the spot, and he's not really getting it.....

André misses Dizzy's count by three beats! How funny. Not surprising from a classical musician. You can truly be one of the greatest in a particular context, but still have something to learn from other forms of music! The song André plays is Boris Vian's "Ah! si j'avais un franc cinquante".
well you know this is not the real deal. In the clip they are actualy playing black orfeus. i guess the guy who made this clip cut and rewind stuff so that it should look real!
this is that latest video ever

@jharnum not too good to repeat well-worn tales that don't have roots in reality

By the way: At the beginning, it's André playing the melody, and both are playing trumpets from Dizzy's collection.
And Maurice André did play Jazz for several years before getting into the classical world.
