I've taken a lot of flack from friends who prefer their monoshock bikes to my older style twin shocks. I donno, this is 3 failures so far? I know they are beating the hell out of these machines, but I'm pretty hard on my Ural, she sees snow, sleet, rain, sand, dirt, grass, and tarmack... granted I have failures they don't have.... *shuts up* =P
@TriumphT140 To be fair, they have A LOT of weight on these bikes. Perhaps more than they really should. Also, this is over 80 days of abuse total. And, they never had these issues on Long Way Down. Perhaps they altered the type or manufacture of the shock on these new 1250's

My only argument for twin shocks I have besides the fact that 90% of the bikes I dig have them anyways, is that they seem to keep the bags from bouncing on the tire =P

@Experiment47 yeah, difference is the bear was killed, skinned and kidneys removed - its carcass dumped and left to the scavengers, purely so the killers could sell the skin and kidneys etc... no other reason.

@zoiks81 When the truck drivers killed the bear they took it's skin and sold it to feed their families and rebuild their trucks (the trucks that allow to earn money to feed their families), these poor drivers have little choice, they need the money or they will die. The goat on the other hand was actually killed for no reason because they had camping food with them.
When they were talking about it in LWR Charlie was making sense, Ewan sounded like a spoilt Westerner.
@Experiment47 The camping food was for the crew. The crews food supply for the trip. The goat was brought by and for the african protection men. So the goat was killed for a purpose. The crew were offered and helped themselves.
Claudio ought to get an award for his cinematography - closeups, pans, landscape, perspectives - all top rate. People who buy meat from the store have simply hired out the animal slaughter - at least be honest about it. Goat meat is the #1 meat consumed because it's cheap and they are hardy animals -- try birria tacos. (marinated goat)
Last: Forget the ESA on these rigs - use more stout suspension so you don't break down. KISS principle.
Charley replaced the front bike shocks with Ohlins but didn't replace the back shock (I think he didn't want to lose the Electronic Suspension Adjustment functions that works only with the original rear shock). That was a bad judgment call he made...The BMW original shocks are crap on all models as far as I can recall.

If you 5 days in desert whit out any food, you kill it whit you own hands and whit out any gilt, because it is necessary for food. But this is the craziness of our world, going to land where people suffer, rich and wealthy having grill in land. I don’t mind this in Charles and Ewan’s video; it seems to be gift from locals.

Also, Ewan never said killing animlas to eat is wrong, but that he wouldn't be able to kill an animal himself, and that people in rich countries seem so unaware of the fact that the meat they eat was once an animal that had to be killed. It seems the bikes are breaking a lot easier this time round. Ewan & Claudio's shocks went as soon as they hit Africa, and they'd been riding on paved roads up to that point. In LWR, they really put them through their paces before encountering their first major issue.

KTMs are not reliabe, BMW were the way to go. (And for the recored i dont own a BMW, just that this kind of hardcore enduro biking needs a bike like the BMW)

there's a hint of "Long way UP" that Ewan mentions in an interview about going from the tip of South America on up. There's nothing in motion yet, though.

You're right. Charlie really has a thing for KTM, and they make good bikes. Too bad for them. But BMW has always made a mean and reliable bike too. Given a choice I would go with BMW as they are better represented in most places and it's easier to get bits. I'm sure it's tough to get parts for most anything in sub-saharan africa.
But as we can see, the bikes aren´t working properly...broken frames, shocks, ... so I am wondering if this is still a good advert. But the conditions are tough, though.
