Hello. Great vids. Why don't you keep sparging instead of stopping to fill with water? Would it not be better to extract as much of that "sweet wort" as possible no matter how light it gets? Cheers.
The only reason I didn't is the diminishing returns. Its alot of effort pouring the water in when you are getting almost no sugars. If I had a magnetic pump and all that then I would, but its just not worth the physical effort. AND, this is mini-mash so I still had some extract to add.
I saw a guy use a food grade plastic coffee can lid. He sat it in the middle of the grain bed and poured ever so slowly and the water sort of diffused into the grain bed. Ugly, but effective.

That would work too, the plate made sence because of the convex shape. Face it, I need to spend a few bucks on this step. lol.
