  • i just got 1 i havent fired it yet ,i luv old weapons hard for a girl to pull the bolt back ?

  • @sherrykelly39 How old are they? It really isn't that hard, especially when you learn to not be delicate with it; I imagine 12+ years old should be able to handle the bolt.

  • cool video man! sub'd...

everytime I was all "no! you got that wrong"... you came back with, "wait, no, I was wrong there" lolz watching this vid 4 months after you made it.... sounded like a conversation in my den.. lol! awesome. I love the mosin.

  • @trollprepper haha, thanks! The more I learn about guns (or anything) the more I realize I have to learn, lol. I try to learn from my mistakes and annotate when I can! Yeah the Mosin is awesome, I can't believe they are still so cheap. I need to do an update video on it; I put a rail and scope on, and shoots pretty nice. Have to shoot some more to make sure it's holding zero.

  • @basshoundusa a rail? nice! but be ready for the purest negative backlash!!! I'm looking forward to seeing it!

  • @trollprepper LOL, your right! On a good note, my rail fits over the rear iron sight so no modifications had to be made to the gun, other than remove two pins. But, at anytime i can convert gun back to stock! So the purest shouldn't complain too much. We'll see though!

  • Great vid. Watch the diff ammo. It will shoot diff. Make sure you site your Mosin in for the ammo you use for hunting. Love these guns. Have a few. Lol

  • @nadbooker thank you. Yeah I haven't shot anything through it other than the Russian surplus, which is not legal for hunting since its not a soft point. Wouldn't mind trying some hunting rounds through it. Yeah, it costs the price of 2 people eating out (maybe twice), and you have something to show for it afterwards! Awesome bang for your buck.

  • @basshoundusa I really like this video! Jeff Cooper said a man should learn something about himself and his firearm every time he goes to the range and you did that, can't think of a better way to spend a day. Nice review of the rifle, I have seen other reviews but yours conveys the joys of owning an economical surplus rifle and the associated considerations. Great job!

    Questions:

How is the trigger? Is it as stiff as it looks? Does it effect accuracy? Can it be adjusted?

  • @dougcarlton Thank you! It may be a little stiff, yet it is consistent through the whole pull, and really is not that bad. I don't believe it effects accuracy at all, once you are used to it, because it is consistent and can be pulled smoothly. I don't believe there is anyway to adjust it, other than lubricating it a little bit. From what I hear, each Mosin Nagant is different, some trigger pulls are better than others, so that is one thing to check when you buy one. I'm happy with mine!

  • Mosin front sights are short and they all shoot between 6-10 inches high inside of 200 yards.

  • i have my mosin nagant scoped and i shoot brown bear fmj bullets , it makes a beastly accurate hunting rifle.

  • @collateral1207 what scope mount did you use for your mosin? ... been looking into them. Also, when you get a "new bolt" with the mount, you basically have to cut the old one off, and drill and tap the new one in?

  • would have been so funny if the bullet went off when he slammed the primer on the table lol

  • @collateral1207 yeah, would have been a viral video i'm sure! I wondered how long a comment about that was gonna take, as I noticed that when I was watching the footage. In my defense I think it is physically impossible for the primer to go off smacking it against a flat table, as the primer could not be dented in enough... :) LOL

  • I hate to be nit-picky but the 1891 model was used in WW1, while the 91/30 was used in WW2. Great vid though.

  • @jeffrey826 Very true. I meant the that the Mosin Nagant (in general) was used in WW1, but didn't make that clear. I added annotation to correct this error. Thanks for pointing this out!

  • Nice video! 9:35 The numbers are in meters. The original WWI Mosins were the longer M91. The rear sight on those were in arschins which is 1 arschin = 28 inches. The thing about Mosins are you just can't have one! My Finnish Mosins are more accurate with the M39's being the best of the bunch.

  • @Teleoceras Thanks for the info! Video is annotated now. Yeah they are awesome to collect. I'm sure i'll end up researching other models more, and get another one! Thanks again.

  • @basshoundusa That's cool. A really nice book is The Mosin Nagant Rifle by Terence W. Lapin. 7.62x54r.net is a great online source for Mosin Nagants. Good luck!
