well, the general idea is not to default to things that are new, and yet not thoroughlly tested as is with ext4. It is important you can use it if you want.
After I added nvidia driver, cups (for printing), firewall (ufw) and virtualbox driver (module), and few other things on startup that I need, it's about 30 sec now... ;)
Recently I switched on EXT4 for data partitions too (/home), and I did not encountered any problems yet.

No problems so far. I switched to EXT4 for my root, but I still keep data (/home) on EXT3, in case...

I wanted to post a video exactly like this.
My pc (E8400, blabla) boots exactly as fast as yours with new Ext4 and Ubuntu 9.04 from default install.

Start measuring when GRUB is finished, to end of video, it was about 28 sec. I'm very pleased with the result.
