@MsSteeldog but he made them his own. To the point, his versions are for the most part i care to listen to. Or should i say his versions breathe a new life into these songs.
@djplazma Just FYI, lots of artist do not write, produce, or arrange their own music. This particular song was written by Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell and has been recorded by serveral different artist such as The Carpenters, Bette Middler, Vikki Carr and several others.......My point is, lets not take anything away from Mr. Vandross, he definately made it his own!
Where are all of our great R&B stars going? Will there be any left? I miss Luther so much... And I've cried over Whitney not less than 3 times since Saturday. Where are they all going.........

@yngjackson I don't understand why people look up music they don't like. If they don't like it, then don't look it up just to click dislike. Luther is an icon to R&B. I agree with you 100%.
nobody can sing a love song like Luther! Soooo smooth! Beautiful remake of several combined classics. I could and listen to this song over & over never get tired of it.
just put the lights down low the volume high, holding in your arms the person you love and close your eyes and listen closely so so beautifull, wished id seen him live when he was alive such a loss of talent !!!
My all time favorite Luther Vandross song, I was only two years old when this came out and I can remember my mom playing it.........I LOVE THIS SONG and so many others by Luther, but this is my FAVORITE!! R.I.P. TO ONE OF THE GREATEST!!!!!
One thing I love about this song and Luther Vandross, in general (other than his velvety voice), is how he takes his time when he sings his songs. It's like he wraps each and every note with a billows of soft and sensual soul, so when he weaves them together with that satiny smooth voice, what you get is an inviting, enticing and perfectly made quilt that you can wrap yourself in and feel content....this song does just that for me....PURE PERFECTION!!!
I was very fortunate to have grown up with Luthor's music, he was a male Mariah Carey, his voice would always put me to sleep. He didn't even need the music. A gift from "God" the the music world. R.I.P. Luthor
Oh god i got chills listening to this song! Luther is so missed! He was the best and in my opinion so underated. Im 21 and i wish i could have seen him in concert.
@LaurenRenee0813x Hi, I had the pleasure of seeing Luther live twice and he was amazing. He will always be my all-time favourite artist...there will never be anyone that can touch the soul like he did in my opinion. It's so refreshing to see someone as young as you appreciating great music. Have a beautiful life.
@mawishe Your very lucky to have seen luther. :-) I totally agree no one can ever touch luther. His voice was one in a million! thank you same to you sweethart!
If this song doesn't give you chills and goosebumps and the words don't move you - something is WRONG with you... this man took this song and remade it into his OWN. Most folks don't even KNOW it wasn't his song to begin with.
This is my favorite song sung by Luther. I feel a tear in my heart everytime I hear it and or see the video. He will never be forgotten. He left us way too soon.RIP and sing throughout all the Heavens , so that the angels may sit in awe and wonder at your magnificent gift
The song was actually written by Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett, and recorded by The Carpenters. Their version is perhaps the best known universally, but Luther made the song his own when he recorded it for "Busy Body."
Such a beautiful voice and a truly timeless song. This song played on my cassette deck too many times to count back in the day... that bittersweet kind of pain that only happens once.
I am sorry but, does this song get anyone on a natural high that zones them out which in return makes them come down damn near forgetting where the "f" they are?
I used to play this song to my baby when i was prego. When I got sick (morning sickness) i would rub my stomach and sing it to the baby. At the end of the song when Luther says "its alright, its alright..." I would assure my unborn it was alright. I get so emotional when I hear this song. "baby" didnt make it.
Bachelor Planet readers are asking me which version of "Superstar" I prefer. This is it. I was lucky enough to meet Vandross once, during a party at the home of Vaneese Thomas(daughter of Rufus). He had a sweet and kind demeanor and seemed so extraordinarily gentle and thoughtful -- a delicate soul wrapped in an oversized package. I also recall, how pre-arrival, even his close friends were buzzing: Luther's coming! And he's actually driving HIMSELF!! Ah, superstars.
March 1984. I was already transfered to I.S. 74 from I.S. 52 when this first came out while I was in the middle of the 7th grade. Thanks for posting. Luther will always be one of the best.
@ddbreakdancer Hang in there big chap. I've been there and I know it's hard to believe now but in the long run it's for the best. Chin up big man, you'll be fine! Thinkin about you!
Luther Andross is a tribute to the music world! He sings from the heart and it's outshining his talent which is amazing. It invokes emotions, has us look at memories, and more importantly he brings us right there. It's real. Am glad that we are blessed with the recordings. :)
@MsChicChic to avoid having it cut out in the middle of the song.
1. Start the video
2. Pause it and anticipate
3. Play when it's fully loaded. (If that doesn't work, shut off all apps you don't need on your pc and retry).

No one better not dislike this song. This is such a beautiful, breath taking song. Nearing the ending, I just wish that it could go on forever. It gives me the chills and puts me in such a relaxing mood. On my way home from prom, this song happened to come on the radio so I decided to sing it to my date :) hehe! ♥ Thank you, Luther. @SpazzTeam513 This song isn't long at all. It's actually quite typical of songs before the 90s. I've heard 20 min songs that you'd want to listen to over and over.
Sometimes you can't get all your feelings into a 4 min song (hence the lack of soul in todays music). The big record companies insist songs remain under 4 mins though.
Luther Vandross was an Angel straight from heaven, his voice was Angelic, his words were his wings which wrapped around everyone that heard his music. The world was graced by his soul, and we should give thanks for that.
Absolutely fabulous, as was EVERYTHING he did.. a true music talent, now silenced. Missing you and your wonderful melodies, rest in peace, Mr. Vandross...
This is the greatest R&B song EVER! This song is truly a work of art. The beauty, the majesty of this song is so profound! There will never be another song like this! And, it makes the butterflies in my tummy take flight thinking about Luther producing this wonderful song, and makes me a little sad that he has passed on. Still, I am so thankful that Luther blessed the world with the gift of this song!
I appreciate that so many people love this song/medley...but did you people know that these songs are not originals of Mr. Vandross?
