Greatest song I've ever heard in my life. Another one on that album Big Country is pretty close but doesn't pull the heartstrings like "Sliding Down" does...
@ASKailing Since posting that question and listening to more of Fleck's music, I have learned that your reply is EXACTLY CORRECT! Without a doubt, he's a genius
Whats even more impressive here is that between the three of them, they play 8 different instruments on this track. It sounds so seamless that you really have to listen closer to catch when they change instruments. I really wish this trio would perform again someday.
Similar to the Law student, I had my organic chemistry exams, and this song on constant loop has calmed my nerves and steadied my head when nothing else in the library could. Thank you for posting
if you want to know why the views on this have gone up by about a thousand in the last week, it's because I've been listening to it on repeat while I study for my first term of law school exams. it's the only music I can have on that calms me down and helps me focus. I've had it on CONSTANTLY, no word of a lie. Thank you so much for posting it
Edgar Meyer is possibly the greatest living bass player and I think this is his best song. There was a live performance of this song on youtube awhile ago, it had edgar meyer and bela fleck playing with a whole orchestra and it was unbelievable. If anyone has it PLEASE post it or let me know.
My favorite song ever! To me the song sounds like it is telling someone's life story- the ebbs and flows, ups and downs, crazy times and calm times and that final peaceful sunset... just my take on it

I got to see them when they were touring for this album in the 90s. I haven't words enough to describe it. Simply beautiful.

This piece is mesmerizingly beautiful for its simplicity, its eloquence...can't stop playing it - over and over and over...
