Superb video. Thanks. I now have the confidence to dive into mine and see why it keeps shutting down. Any idea where the best place to get parts for these is - I have a D5W.
@99greenmen They are only really used in lorries, caravans and boats so dealers in these are worth a look at - of the three I've found that HGV type dealers tend to be the cheapest and least likely to do the 'sharp intake of breath' thing.
The only real cost saving I found is that the glow pin is available from Beru at around 1/3 the price of the Eberspacher original - I got mine from my local VW dealership.
@rabbid141 There are umpteen things that can make an Ebby decide it doesn't want to play. You don't say if it tries to start or just does nothing so this is a bit of a guess here. On ours there is a seperate fuse box that feeds it - from time to time one of those overheats and kills all power. If the big fuses are OK and it still seems dead it may be the blower motor failed :o( If it tries to start and just smokes loads than that is probably glow pin. I'm not an Ebby engineer though so no expert
@billyridders Most welcome - I no longer have this model as mine finally got beyond repair a year or so ago - by my reckoning it was about 9 years old by then so it did pretty well considering th use it gets . The model I replaced it with shares some common parts but despite outward appearances many of the more 'servicing' parts are different.
No experience of them but I'd go for contacting Eberspacher first, opel dealer second if you were looking to do this yourself. If you wanted someone to do the job for you I'd go to a commercial vehicle place first, opel second.
Nothing against Opel here but they are always going to want to make some profit out of the job too - part supply only or supply & fit.
A commercial specialist is likely to have more experience & better parts availability.
Do you have any experience with the D3W, the one that is mounted in Vauxhall/Opel Corsa and Astra from the factory? Is the ECU with the connecting wires the same on every Eberspächer, or do I have to get one from my Opel Dealer?
Thank you for a very excellent video.
