Fact - Gays accept only views that are positive for them only. Fact - *Anything* against gays is complained about and call ignorant and wrong. Can gays quit bitching about everything, people have opinions, im a soldier and i don't and won't approve gays in army or civilian world. Why i don't like it. My opinion. @Glinkaism1 I think there is room for some clarification here. Cross-dressing is not a gay thing. Cross-dressers come from all genders and sexualities. Plenty of straight people cross dress. When I was in the military there was a drag contest on base one time, and another time there was a unit wide cross-dressing event for football (I did not participate in either of those events). There were plenty of pictures of prominent leaders in our unit dressed as the opposite sex after that game.

Whether it is right or wrong that we live in that kind of country is irrelevant to the fact that it is a reality. Also, gays are not the only people that are not allowed to serve in the military. I have a friend that wasn't allowed because he was green color blind. If you have a felony, you are denied, and if you didn't graduate high school, but got your GED, without college experience, you can no longer serve. I think there are much more who fit the latter, than gays that wish to serve.

@jbennett9109 The Army lets in people with criminal records. Color blind people can still serve in many jobs so long as color recognition isn't essential to their jobs. Your friend wouldn't have been allowed to be a pilot for example, but I do not believe he would be denied entry into service over it. I served with color blind individuals. People with GEDs are also allowed to serve. In fact the Army even has a program to help people get in who have neither a high school diploma nor GED.

@gaymilitaryman My friend who is color blind, I am not exactly sure if that was the specific reason why he was denied, but that was what he told me. And as far as their policies on the GED, I don't know if this is a new policy or not, but I was with my friend in the recruiter's office for the Army, and they told him that since he doesn't have a High School Diploma, and only a GED, he would need 48 college level credits to join. And depending on the felony they may let you in.

@jbennett9109 The army allows about 10% of its enlistees to have a GED, but due to the large number of people with GEDs wanting to enlist they may be encouraged to get college credit. This is because it will put them in the same category as high school graduates and increase their chances of being accepted. It is not impossible though to enlist with only a GED, but you will have to score very well on the ASVAB.

Also, the NY times ran a study on entry into our Armed Services, and they found that fewer than 3/10 people in the U.S. are qualified to serve. To put in perspective, that is almost 100 million people in the U.S. that they have deemed to be unqualified, and therefore, may not be allowed to join.

In regards to gays serving openly, my personal view is that we may soon need all we can get to fight for our country if things get worse, so they better solve this issue soon, and quit with the BS.

I understand the concept of why gays would want to serve in the military, but there are too many external factors that must be considered before it can be accomplished. Whether we like it or not, we live in a very masculine country, where men are raised to be manly, and women raised to be feminine. Gays serving openly would cause major disruption within the ranks of the military, as well as a huge number of sexual harrasment lawsuits, which would be used to discredit our military.

For example I once found myself in the middle of a conversation where someone made a statement about gays that I thought was not accurate. Possible compromise: apply DADT to everyone, straight and gay. Any open discussion about sex or sexuality becomes grounds for dismissal due to "hurting group cohesion." Not an ideal solution of course, but might be more palatable for those who are uncomfortable with homosexuality.

You know... My family still doesn't think that it's okay for me to be gay, but in all honesty I feel much closer to them then I was before coming out. At least now I don't have the nagging feeling of them not really knowing me.

Wow, that's awesome news. She sounds like a hero and they treat her this way...it is a disgrace. Hopefully it is the beginning of the end for this ridiculous policy. Keep fighting for what you believe in...you have my admiration and respect...and thanks your vids.
