  • Lol at the ending. Thanks big boy.

  • 1:54

    You Win!

    Flawless Victory!

  • Is this supposed to be inspired by Conan?

  • It has better combat than Gothic1. ..but what about the end ? u just scare the boss away?

  • ...you just had to ROLL on the wizard to beat him? Grr, wish I'd known that back then.

  • @ramimarkusmaunula I was just thinking the same dam thing. I was always trying to land a sword slice on him and always getting killed. Jeez all it would've taken was another roll and I would've seen this many times!!

  • i always thought the small green guy said, nom nom nom nom xD

  • THE BEST!!!

  • I remember this game being pretty much broken - get your opponent into the corner and do the quick slash in belt-hight and the he wouldn't recover before the next slash landed; chuck-chuck-chuck win :-D

    - Never beat the wizard though :o(

  • thanks big boy

  • nice epic music

  • You could behead everyone except the last black barbarian.

Roll for, roll back, roll for, roll back, swing, end.

  • OMG ... now yt is showing me, what i never reached 25years ago - the endings of my favorite computer games! LOL

and these 8bit outros are often SO WEAK!

"THANKS BIG BOY" - that's all! for playing hours and hours!!!

no music, no animation, nothing... ROFLMAO

  • @a3322ful That's so true. The games were so hard back then, that it wouldn't surprise me if the developers didn't even think anyone would ever finish any of these games, so they just didn't really care about the endings.

  • @a3322ful OMG ... now yt is showing me what i never got to play because the bloody tape didn't work. I had this for ZX spectrum. always wanted it to play cos i liked the illustration on the cover but instead I sat hoping listening to rrrrrrgrgrgrgrgrg *click* for hours. ooh ooh the thin red and blue lines mean its working i think?

  • i played a style of this game on a flash pc crap thing in school, loved it, why cutting peoples heads of didnt stay in fighting games, ill enver know

  • Amazing game !! .......:)

  • The faster way to go through the game is to cut the head off the warriors =)

  • well i dont know if anyone can relate, but this makes me thin that johannes heil must have been a C64 fanatic!

  • EPIC! This game is so funny

  • and everyone tried to do the beheading attack.

i always thought "wtf is master yoda doing here?"

  • @Fabsun Ehh, Master Yoda! :D

The music is brilliant in this game, it can't be boring. At first, it seems a "simple" repeating track but actually it has some parts not heard more than once during this 8+ minutes -- I especially like the parts starting at 3:18 and 6:31.

  • all you had to do at the end was roll..aaaarrrggghhh so many attempts back in the day

  • @grimironjaw666 Hahhaaha!!! I know! I was exactly the same.. I tried everything; kick, headbutt, swishy-sword-wave thing. Everything but the stoopid roll!

  • The Red one defeated me so many times.... never got past the black one. But everytime I was playing this game, I always had two questions:

    1) Was the hell is that green alien?

    2) Why the hell everytime a fighter loses, he loses his shirt?

  • Ha-haaa! The lizard gives the head a good boot.

  • I believe this game was released under another name. I remember playing this and figuring out the timing so that I could always chop the Computer's head with the opening attack... but the version I had would start looping characters after the black shirted guy I believe... at least thats what I remember.

  • @bcrt2000

this game here was called "barbarian 2". the one you had was "barbarian 1" which was settled in the woods.

  • brings a tear to my eye everytime :,)

  • Love this game. The head chopping was epic for back then!

  • me and my friends always like Wastelands better for c64. It was much faster and smoother. Still shopping someones head was amusing, atleast if it happend towards the middle of the arena so the little green lizard man kicked the head like a football.

  • Good old Days...

  • Yesthose were the days men... The funniest was choping off head with spin. Always wanted to do that to oponent. It was fun. I started to play games back then when I was like 8 years old. How the green creature kicks the head and takes the body. Man this is awesome. I really miss that kind of games. Today graphics are better and music but they lack off something, like a soul.

  • THANKS BIG BOY

  • OMG I remember playing this when I was like 8yrs old....I used to get hold of the game case and pretend to be looking at the back, but really I was looking at the semi nude hot chick on the front lol

  • Good times...

  • OMG I remeber the artwork for this as it had Wolf and Maria Whittaker on the front of the case!

  • Gaming is less fun nowdays:((

  • Did anybody defeated last sorcerer?

  • Look very close the master behind, he looks like the supreme one of the Illuminati.

  • I had a version

where if you did the decap attack too much, it would crash lol

  • Really liking the music in this game.

  • "Thanks, Big Boy" -- LOOOL :D

Back in the day, players needed to fill in the gaps with their imagination.. i guess that's why mine is so lively. :) And btw, I remember a bunch of us guys playing this as kids, yelling and cheering etc. Dad walks in the room, thinking what's going on, and right then someone gets decapitated on screen. Dad didn't approve :D

  • So those red dots in each corner are the players health bar but a player can be decapitated with a certain attack even they have full health, damn this game was hardcore. This is one game i never owned on my C64, i missed out.

  • I could never beat the wizard guy!

  • It was always very annoying to get headbutted.

  • This is awesome!

  • i wonder what the chupacabra is saying right before he drags the dead body out

  • I played this game 10000 times (really!) to the "end"... and i never killed this sorcerer.....

I love the music at 6:30....

Please show "Conan swings his sword" on youtube

    thx Crom

  • @Crom1978 crom..

    to hell with you!

  • @Simon0

    when you not answer

  • Nice vid :)

  • "Nice game" should be the first reaction... considering the mass of combat moves you had there, it was amazing for its time.

Too bad, I usually failed in level 4. There, the decapitation hit usually doesn't work... Never realized the mass of moves to myself in this time, however. ;)

    So long,

    sys

  • You could beat every opponent except the boss by just repeating roll-kick-roll-kick-roll-kick until they died.

  • OMG, I loved this game so much!!! I used to play it all day long, if i could find it on my game cassette

  • I remember that the beheadings + the blood caused some concern, yet I played this game a lot when I was young and never chopped off someone's head.

Did think about it a few times, but they were asking for it!

  • oh my god! i was so scared of the sorcerer when i was playing this game!!!!haha

  • THANKS BIG BOY

  • Oh my god!!!!! I remember this.....!!!!!! I don't know how many years ago was it......

    Thanks for posting this...

  • "thanks big boy" HAHA!

  • If I remember correctly all the barbarians, even the final ones, could simply be killed by rolling and kicking.

  • the best game ........THX

  • One of my friends was the biggest cheat on this game. Allways removed my joystick. Those were fun days!

  • uncharacteristically good choreography. Definitely ahead of its time.

  • barbarian echoes through the coridors of time as a classic game , prefered the amstrad version, but the music was better on the c64 and there was nothing that could finish a game quicker than a well timed head chop !

  • oh man the music is so epic !! this really brings back those good memories...thanks ! :)

  • Man, this game brings back memories. It was such a good game! Loved watching it! cheers :)

  • oooooh are you serious you just had to go close to the wizard and you saved the chick?

    I could never do that..hehe :)

  • kick ass music... this with IK+

  • I used to love the fact that the head chop could completely turn a round, down to half a bar of health and pull of a spinning head chop was wonderfully satisfying :)

  • @JessenCS Not to mention that the head chop was sufficiently easy to avoid, which prevented it from breaking the balance of the game. For example, the first Guilty Gear was seriously broken due to the instant kill attacks, which were easy to do but difficult to avoid (fortunately this was fixed in the sequels).

  • THANKS BIG BOY

  • Very complex fighting system for the time.

  • Never managed to get past the wizard at the end, and now it turns out you just have to roll into him? Jeez.

  • The PWM bass sound on the SID-chip is FAT!!

  • I love that little green creature who drags away the fallen warriors hehehe!

  • he kicks heads off screen too :P

  • @MarcoGV Specially when you cut of the head of your opponent and the green guy kicks it in front of himself while he drags the body.

  • @MarcoGV Too bad it's music only. That thing had a funny laugh. :D

  • @JohnACorp782 Ruck Ruck Ruck

  • @rnrbishop Indeed. As funny as it is, seeing it as a kid was almost horrific. :D

  • game came with some huge poster of that chick as well .. ^^

  • @stevensantosss i55 tinypic com/24pvts1.jpg :)

  • i remember i had this game on c64 it came in a big black box loved it lol

  • Shoulder-long hair, glimmering swords and furry pants sure were dead macho back in the 80's! ;)

  • people should pay more attention to games having seriosuly good music sometimes.

  • Always loved the way you could chop the other guys head off if you performed the spin move just right.

Not that i'm in to that sort of thing (ie chopping heads off), but it was very satisfying. Plus this game looked and sounds the best out of all the other 8 bit micros.

  • Cool Music! One of my favorite games on c64

  • Thanks Big Boy^^

  • yeah, on Amstrad looked much better. Love it!

  • Was better on the Amstrad

  • Great game. I could never beat Darx though.

  • 3:30 thats what the crowd wants to see :D

  • awesoe

  • omg! :D 20 years ago! And I remember it if it was yesterday :D

I always got my ass kicked @ the black belt tho! time to buy myself a c64 again!

  • dude i didnt even sell it :-)

  • Great game, reminds me totally to my youth. Was always a must to do the move to chop the head ^^ Never beat the sorcerer, was impossible for a little kid, I think!

  • Man, so THATS how you killed the sorceror...stupid sorceror!

  • i remember leaching from decapitation hit all the time :p

  • this is awesome

just listen to this kickass music

  • classic game in the golden hall of fame, from almost 22 years ago, very far back now.

these 2 brbarians here look like to android barbarians fighting .

  • THANKS BIG BOY ;D

  • I remember this game having in-game sound.

  • yeah it does the author of the lp just nixed the in game sounds and looped the sid tune probley feeling that the music was better on the ears than clanks, oafs, and hack sounds and in my opinon he was right

  • those graphics rock. i remembwered it being much better. always the way.

  • yes yes yaaaa

  • Blimey, what a blast from the past! Excellent.

  • I Have the orginal Disk of this game for the c64 too bad my grandpa broke the system :(

  • "Thanks big boy" ?

  • Didn't this have sound effects as well? I seem to remember the goblin cackling.

  • Yep, you could have either music or sound effects :-)

  • those were the days!

  • Small color-tv in the corner of small room. Around the tv there were me and my friends... two were playing and others (2-4) cheered&yelled while they waitet their turn. Those really were fun times =)

  • ... and everybody tried to go for the clean decapitation win (at least in my basement).

  • yeah those were the day^^ love it today it is all about the internet and online play...

  • @dogsoldier78 I agree. Better than any PC any time later. Computer games are meant to be social. That is the whole point!

  • This is exactly what was happening back in those days!

  • @dogsoldier78 so many old games are much more playable than all of this new crap... Even Great Blizzard can't help us... Maybe if blizz and ID Soft. and Interplay membrs. merge together they could create something new.oryginal,flawless... 3D OFC. With real or FF like graphics... That would be killer...

  • @dogsoldier78 I had the same kind of angle going on. Truly great times. 1989-95. :)

  • Comment removed

  • oh wow, i loved it :)

  • i love this shit ^^

  • greatest player

  • Memories!!! Oh Boy!!!

  • pff my timing was better back in the day :)

  • Then you must hear music 6:31 from this clip and see the other clip

  • 3rd level, 1st attack. Off with his head. Beautifully done!! :-D

  • ...................................Oh hell yes!

  • "thanks big boy" bahahaha

  • they really should remake this game!

  • they did make a remake of this game... go to maxgames and serch "barbarian"

PS: you guys should see the barbarian glitch i found...

  • I love the music at 6:31!!!

  • yea, I totally agree :) Neat!

  • just a copy of a song from the theme of "Conan the destroyer" by Basil Poledouris. Song title "Elite Guard Attacks" - afaik.

  • Bah, only good thing about the game was the decapitation part + the Maria Whittaker poster :P

  • My Favorite game

  • fuck i could never defeat the sorcerer when i was playing it at the age of 12 :D

  • Looks like an early version of mortal kombat. And when you decapitate that one guy, that could be a fatalitie move.

    FINISH HIM!!!!!!

    lol

  • badass game

  • So that is how it is supposed to end. I guess my copy of the game was corrupt or something since after beating the guy in black shirt, another black shirted guy would show up. I quit after beating down 26th black shirted guy...

  • Or it was the first Barbarian (1) in the Wood and at the volcano. There was no end...

  • I played the first barbarian with the wood and volcano. i beating the last guy 16 times, then i was bored XD

  • Das interessante war, dass der Computer immer gleich reagierte. Zumindestens bei schwarzen Gegner. Ich hatte einige auswendig gelernt. Dies bedeutete, das ich und der Computer bis manchmal 10 Moves identisch ausführten. lol

  • Man what a thrill it was to time that head slicing move just right when the battle was beginning and it would hit... :)

  • drax the evil sorceror was defeated, but returned for barbarian 2 dungeon of drax.

  • I loved chopping heads >:)

That music was pretty cool. Anyone knows of a remix?

  • there are plenty of remixes over at remix64(dot)(com)

  • I have my 1. C64 !!! With over 500 Games!!!

And i play it... it always runs.... Jiiihaaar.

And my Amiga 500 too, with ca. 150 games.

  • I played this game years...

I never killed this last old man!!!

  • me too:/ i have 6 years and i can't beat him

  • I knew all moves from my computer enemys...

I knew what did move the computer next...

I never loose... but this .... man (drac?)

  • games on C64 is so hard i play a lot of games Giana sisters, Ghost n' goblins (i lost on last stage) today we have games for noobs thats true...

  • Enemy with brown shirt always defeated by cutting their head ;)

  • Thanks, big boy.

  • The fukkin wizard always killed me.

Shoulda put the sound effects instead of the choons.

    never mind, classic old game.

  • i thought you could never defeat drax the sorceror - classic game

  • This was my favorite vs. game on the Commodore 64/128. Now I finally get to see what happens when you beat the wizard. Love that Conan music.

  • Haha I used to play this a lot with my brother when I was like 3.

It's pretty interesting to go back and see what I played when I was younger.

  • 1:20 to 1:24 is funny!

  • haha the forst fatality

  • best fighting game, awesome music. plenty of moves, plenty of decapitations.

  • Roll...roll....roll...roll...roll...roll...not the most balanced fighting game in hindsight.

Why no SFX instead of the music? I used to get a kick of the head going thunk and the goblin's grating laugh.

  • call me Headchopper Joseph about:

    0 REM TESTPROGGI

    13 PRINT "HELLO WORLD! "

    23 GOSUB 13

  • classic , first beat em up with fatalities i think too

  • Wow. I actually remember taht ending so I must have finished it once way back when.

  • I thought exactly same at first but then again I could've been hacking, frustrated by the damn wizard ;)

  • The music in this game kicks ass!

  • Incredible fun - the best C64 battle game created! Great memories of this one. I made it to the final victory.

  • big boy ...thanks thanks thanks!!!!!!!!!!

  • omg i used to love this game. like many of the other c64 games i used to love though, i'd fogotten all about it (i was about 5 :\ )

  • AAhhh Barbarian. Just like trying to seduce a woman. First you go in for the kill (chop off head). If that doesn't work you just have to hack away and wear them down. But then there is always the man that will back them into a corner. Level 3 Barbarian is a dirty little slapper. Gives in easily, goes down on knees and gives head.

  • I never could beat the wizard. But I used my action replay cartridge to look at the sprites and there was a sprite of the woman's torso naked!! Maybe this was some censored version or something.

  • oh, didn't use the headbut?

  • hurrah, arnie wins!!!

  • Spot on, what a treat to view this sort of shit... cheers mate.

  • Thanks Big Boy! Lol that's awesome. Ah the good ole days.

  • I loved this game and it was out way before Mortal Kombat and it's finishing moves
