  • I'm really not a fan of typical "contemporary music": the kind consisting mostly of dissonance and aggressive patterns. This piece, however, is very enjoyable. Yes, it's purpose seems to be the exploitation of the flute's "alternate" sound making capabilities, but there is a definite sense of aesthetics here. It's just plain nice to hear!

  • @MuseDuCafe coming from an avid TRUMPET player, I really enjoy this piece. remove your fingers from the keyboard.

  • Sounds like japanese flute 'shakuhachi', it's classical repertoire of meditation 'Sui Zen'. Very atmospheric, mysterious and concentrated sound, perfect for prayer or meditation. And it's really full of birds and nature... It's really GOOD music and I appreciate the creations of Peteris Vasks as the one of the best contemporary classical composers.

  • I went to the Cadogan Hall to see the Australian Chamber Orchestra play Vasks piece Vox amoris, incredibly moving "Every honest composer reaches for a way out of the crises of their time....If I can find a way out, a reason for hope, then I offer it...." Peteris Vasks

  • the Baltic sea

    source of splendid atmospheres

    fountain of puperb music

  • A thousand times magnificent work!!!

    Vasks...his music is indescribable! Amazing!

  • Tastes are subjective, and I claim nowhere that mine are the final word. The acerbity of your reaction to what I wrote, however, reveals more about your own preferences and prejudices than it addresses either my critique or Vasks' music. YouTube expressly invites us to respond to content--not to post ad hominem characterizations of fellow members.

The flute's antiquity and sonic variety aren't the issue. It's possible to exploit too many colors and effects in an effort to impress.

  • Here we find impressionistic sound effects that on the whole are much more pleasant than those exploited by Ferneyhough and the "new complexity" crowd, but this piece still sesms to suffer from a contemporary trend towards exhibitionistic virtuosity. "Bird" music is a genre with a long history in the Western world, with familiar examples by Liszt, Schumann, Respighi, and Messiaen. Vasks really isn't inventing anything extraordinarily new here, just availing himself of trendy techniques,

  • @apollonmusagete I don't think it's important to be a big inventor when you compose music. Why is it so necessary to come out with something super-new? This is a nice piece of music, and I'm sure that Vasks didn't want to come out with something new.He just wanted to share his feelings through this composition. You rather compose the music than think about how to make it sound new, right?

  • Who plays this?

  • I'm almost sure the flute-player is Dita Krenberga from Latvia

  • thanks, I'm from Colombia and I like this piece but I couldn't find recordings of it.

  • Labāk par Ditu nemaz nav iespējams šo ainavu nospēlēt.
