Yes, I have read where Marian would often request a slower tempo, esecially with her spirituals. Since my teen years I have loved her interpretations, but a few days ago I found another version persented by Kathleen Ferrier (contralto) that you may find of interest. It is also magnificent and of the same quality and reverence.
