@landrykkb Actually, Martin Short's Ed Grimley character was originally from SCTV. Short brought it over to SNL when he was hired for the show's tenth season (1984-1985 season), and it became more popular there than it did on SCTV.
I never knew this character was originally a live-action character created and played by Martin Short. I always thought he looked like an adult version of Alfafa.
Ed Grimley! That brings back some great memories. Anyone remeber Ernest from the Ernest movies having a Saturday morning show. I think it used to come on ABC.
When I was a kid, I always thought it was a really bizarre show. I remember staying up late on summer nights during Cartoon Network's early days, watching this, Wait Till Your Father Gets Home, Fantastic Four, Space Ghost Coast To Coast and Late Night Black And White.
Too bad it hasn't turned up on Boomerang or Adult Swim's tail end ( if Gary Coleman's cartoon could, why not Ed Grimley ?).
@YoungAF1 Dam man you gave me flash backs to my child hood mentioning all those shows thats exactly the same line up of shows i watched as a kid late at night on cartoon network . Lets not "THE BANANA SPLITS" and johny quest lol .. * SIGH...* The good ol days
@YoungAF1 i HATED!! Space Ghost coast to coast ..The flinstones would make their usual late night appearances as well along with the hair bear bunch lol
I think this just unclogged a pipe in my brain...this took me sooooo way back and I thought I was going crazy cause I told people about this, asked about it, and no one knew what I meant.
I know what you mean. It was like a image stuck in the back of my mind... I vaguely remembered what the dude looked like but I couldn't remember the name. I was goin' nuts cuz I couldn't find out who the hell that ridiculous dancin' character's name was! lol
Wow! Not even the INTROS to cartoons these days can match up to those from the past! That's my opinion at least. They ought to show reruns of older shows like this... I miss them.
I've been trying to remember this cartoon for the longest time *-* <3333 His weird gyrations and pointy-alfalfa-like hair haunted my subconscious all last year and no one seemed to know he existed besides me D:! I was going crazy @____@;
I remember when this was on NBC's Saturday morning schedule [11:30am-12noon(et)] during the 1988-'89 season...it only lasted 13 episodes, and they stretched them out over that season because of the writer's strike back then. I LOVED it, but I had a feeling it was "too weird" to last another year- nothing has ever matched it since....
So thats why this show didn't last long, huh? Because of that? Well hey, I was way too young to even know about this show anyway. But even so, that's bullshit that Ed Grimley was so short lived. G-damn strikes...
This was one of those shows that I never knew the name of when it was on and then I found it out a decade laterm like Capitol Critters. I saw this on an airplane to California and it blew me away.
And my first memory of Ed Grimley (and Martin Short) was on season 10 (the 1984-1985 season) of SNL (because that season had a very bizarre opening to it, it's hard not to remember it).

It is totally bizarre that the Ed Grimley character was made into a kid's cartoon.

Ed Grimley is a SNL character, which makes it illogical to me that they'd have a cartoon of him because SNL wasn't aimed at that age demographic.

Are you kidding? The title was one of the best parts of the show!
This is another perfect example of an animated show that is CLEARLY not "just for kids".
I wish I understood why network execs are so locked into that mindset. Animated=children's show. (Although, thankfully, that IS changing.)
