  • I wish you were my father.

  • Wow!!! Need it...

  • Feels like i've been sucked back into 1984 lol,Nice beat though :-)

  • I FUCKING LOVE THAT THING!! HAHA, by the way nice song dude

  • Sounds good man ! so i take it that within your daw you have all of your tracks that you've created and the buttons are assigned to un-mute each track within the daw ? is that how it works ? Iv'e thought of getting one of these i just don't know the complete functionality of it .

  • @Flipjunkie1 A monome *could* be used for a trivial task such as unmuting tracks, but, no, that isn't what is going on.

  • this is awesome.

  • great ring...

  • I'm not saying that these aren't fucking awesome, but it's just that the videos are a tad misleading. What they are impressing you with is pressing a bunch of pre-programmed triggers.

  • @Sandison3210 No, ksd generates music in real time. There is no prerecorded audio involved or a 'bunch of pre-programmed triggers'

  • People seem to be missing the point of what you've done here, Stretta. That's a bit of a shame..

  • @DraconumPB Thanks! I guess I should take it as a complement that people are confusing algorithmically-generated musical output as "audio loops and triggers"

  • he is probably pissed because he cant figure out how to get his apc40 to run monome apps that you have written. thanks stretta

  • he is probably pissed because he cant figure out how to get his apc40 to run monome apps that you have written. thanks stretta

  • this is fuckin stupid

  • @GiZmoAK907 (quoting GiZmoAK907 "this is fuckin stupid") Tearing down someone's work without offering useful criticism is a sign of a small and petty mind.

  • @stretta dont listen to him because this is tight. keep making beats.

  • sounds like from Christian Vogel;-)

  • would you need to use this in conjuction with a computer?

  • Which synth is the sound coming from? Sounds great!

  • this looks like more of a pain in the ass than anything.

  • que es eso????????????

  • might be just me but the first thing i would do is press all the buttons and see what it sounds like. probably shit, but still. funny

  • its a magic box :)

  • hm... the musician must have a good memory to use this device.

  • The guitarist also has to have a good memory to remember all the hand positions. It comes with practice.

  • i disagree any musician can learn any instrument all it takes is practice

  • @Timofey1 yeah no more bong rips for buddy

  • doesnt seem clear enough to me

  • Basically, you can program variations of things to specific buttons and whatnot. It's a sorta on-the-fly sequencer that you can't really screw up, so in one sense a CHEAT, but in another sense allowing you to give live performance of sequenced material more variation.

  • Exactly. Daedelus uses a Monome, and his performances are amazing to behold. If I had the money, I'd get a Monome myself.

  • Can they explain this to me???

    I am of Argentine

    thank you

  • Thanks stretta. Your information Is always extremely informative. I jumped on the recent 64 release.

  • Well, guess this is where to ask this, especially to someone who obviously knows his magic (considering that you're an "active (muff) wiggler" & with a grand knowledge of all things modular & analogue). This, to my supreme ignorance, seems to be just another midi controller, but in a different box. Ok, now you can go on and shot me - but, still, this unit doesn't really seem to be that grand, if considered the steep pricetag.

  • Maybe so, but its the first of its kind... with a huge fanbase and patches (program's). There are also cheaper once that you build yourself pretty easy. Arduinome for instance. for ~180$

  • Kit for US$ 180 sounds like quite a bargain. Will look into it, no doubt.

  • where could i get one of this N how much do they cost?

  • doesnt this just work off of loops? thats kinda what im getting out of the whole thing,

  • The monome is just a box with buttons and LEDs. How it behaves is determined by the software you're running. Many monome videos use MLR, which is designed to manipulate sample loops. KSD is not MLR.

  • People tend to forget these things are just a tool. All the music still has to be made and carefully selected.

  • how much does it cost?

  • around 1000 USD

  • According to their website, this model is $500, while the 16x16 model is $1400.

  • whoa... yea saying i dont understand this would be an understatement.

  • well.. if you look at it, it's pretty simple. each row is a sample. going to the right changes the pitch, and if you have the far right button activated it loops. It probably has way more features than that but the basics seem kind of easy and amateur friendly

  • Yup thats about right. If it wasn't for Akai's apc40, I too, wouldn't have any idea as to what to do with this.

  • love it mate

  • hahaha fuck man that shit is fucken trippy as fuck very interesting

  • YEESSSS!!!!!!!

  • merge this technology somehow with the mandala pad, and you have the future of electronic music.

  • i love house music

  • i prefer the tenori-on but this is very impressive as well

  • Brilliant

  • That's electronica.

  • do you use it for techno?

  • It'd take alot of memorizing to know each key

  • it would be easier if it had a label of the note on it :D

  • lol

  • sweet machine! :D

  • so sick!

  • lovely!

  • ke es esa mierda emfermante ?

  • no es mierda, ni mucho menos enfermante.

mejor investiga es bueno para todos

  • I so wanna have one of those. This sounds so smooth!

BTW you have nice hands! ;D

  • this sounds like such a fun controller to use! beats the shit outta all my drumpads & co, how much is it?

  • you guys have to see how trent Reznor works this shit !! like his plaything ........

  • Is this sampling a previous sound clip and then modifying the timing and harmonics? Or is the music loaded into its internal memory?

  • No sampling or pre-recorded audio involved. KSD generates MIDI data.

  • omg??? i heard this was realy expencive, and it only uses midi??? what a rip-off =(.

  • @D2D8- do you even understand what MIDI does and is used for? obviously not..

  • oh well maybe i was wrong, explain to me.

  • alright well midi is not actually sound, its data that is used so that sequencers know which note to play and at what velocity, etc. you can create a midi pattern or sequence in something called a 'piano roll' where basically you place notes at different positions and assign a vsti or sample to it. that is actually where the sound comes from. you are pobably thinking of general midi or GM which is the soundfont that your soundcard uses to play midi files (.mid)

  • yeah, thats what i was thinkin of, thx.

  • looks like fun! i'll have to try this out

  • 5¤¤¤¤¤!!!

  • I need to introduce my nephew to instruments. He always listens to the music I listen to, and I believe he is at the perfect age to start experimenting with music (6 now). Maybe i'll buy him a keyboard for his birthday.

  • Some of the best music ever heard man. You've got great talent. I hope that make an MP3 or something along the lines of that out of this stuff!

  • thats is great !

now i can get my son off my microkorg

  • probably the coolest thing i have ever seen ^-^

    thanks 4 the upload!

  • where can i get one of these?

  • I would've been stoned 24/7 if I had this as a child. You are a cool parent. *thumbup* :)

  • Stop taking life so seriously.

  • It means being "high", like on drugs. If you don't take things word-by-word, you could read it: "I would have been really happy and relaxed all the time with this device between my hands" not "I would've been on drugs the whole time". Take things a notch down dude ;)

  • okay okay

i feel like an idiot already

    stoppit!! :)

  • word

  • does anyone know what is the difference between Korg KP3 Kaoss Pad and Tenori on

  • I do. a lot!

  • the kaoss pad is more like a parametric eq for live shit.. like sound effects the tenori is a sequencer

  • wjat is ksd?

  • Ah, I get it, visual chords with transposition. Yeah, cool idea for teaching some theory.

  • cute thing

  • You may be able to design an electronic instrument even better than Moog, but you still can't run while pushing a shopping cart.

    Ruhland

  • your monome is cute!!..

    I love monome!.

  • is this a sequencer/controller and no sounds are in it? so you midi it up to one of your instruments and use it's sounds? what is the price and where can you get one?

  • read all about it at monome dot org

  • wow that's awesome, good way to get your kids involved. music is the one of the most important building blocks for young minds.

  • 5 starts, i like it!!!

  • You're a really cool person.

  • what the F*** is that???????

  • it's a monome

  • can you pre load samples for each button...like a drum machine kinda?

  • Not with KSD, but there are other applications for the monome that can.

  • so are the sounds coming from this KSD application??

  • Are the purple ohms included in the box anyone?

  • damn it the new monome just sold out in 5 hours :o

hopefully ill have the finace to grab up the sixtyfour whne that takes orders in january. These boxes area a work of art. One question though i hope you can answer, am i screwed if i dont have maxMsp? it looks like all the software written so far requires it. I wa hopeing to download them as stand alones and have them sending midi to ableton live.

  • You can use the run time version of Max for free. You only need to buy max if you want to author patches.

  • So I cant get it running with LIVE or Reason?

  • Max is only one way of using it. Live and monome play nice with each other. Search for monome and monochrome for one example. The monome is a open controller and can be used for virtually any application.

  • That makes much more interesting sounds than the Tenori On.

  • Please dazzle us with your musical offerings. I'll stand ready to be humbled by your brilliance.

  • I want that thingie to mix my tracks.

It's like perfect or something. ) Looks nice.

    Where can i buy it?

  • SICK!!!

  • my bad tenori-on. It's so much more high tech than this thingy.

  • The Tenori On is a closed-system, a one-trick pony. It'll never be anything more than it is out of the box. One person mashing buttons is indistinguishable from anyone else mashing buttons on it. The Tenori-On is a musical gameboy for Starbucks dilettantes. The monome is an open platform, it can be everything the Tenori On is, and much, much more depending on the software you're running.

  • "The Tenori-On is a musical gameboy for Starbucks dilettantes."

    well said.

  • Checck out the temoni on it fucking rocks.

  • i rather use midi keyboard for that kind of work with softwere, comes in handy with programing samples :P ;)

  • Is that device any more than buttons and lights that can be attached to a computer?

  • Nope, that is about all there is to it.

  • is it short,sweet, and simple? :D

  • where can one purchase such an amazing device...??

Would it work with cuebase or reason in any way...?

  • monome dot org - it is an open source hardware device, so people are using it for virtually anything. go to the web site for more info - neat people/aesthetic

  • hey i saw this in make magazine this thing is cool

  • sexcellent <3

    stretta *

  • wat is this ? a sequencer or midi controller ?

  • The monome 40h is a USB device (open source) that speaks OSC (Open Sound Control) MaxMSP is 'talking' to the 40h, turning on lights and receiving button pushes and generating the MIDI data that you hear.

  • do you route KSD out to differnt synths and what not? any recomendations?

  • really nice, i got my monome today :), cheers

  • nice, very interesting!

  • OMG I WANT ONE!!!
