can anybody tell me the lyrics? 'cause it's clearly different from the 'the animals' lyrics and even a bit from the lyrics of Doc Watson ... but i can't hear it properly
@rsnrosanne There are a house in New Orleans They call the risin' sun Where many poor boy to destruction has gone And me, oh god, are one Just fill the glass up to the brim Let the drinks go many around We'll drink drink to the life of a rather poor boy Who goes from town to town All in this world does a rounder want Is a suitcase and a trunk The only time he's satisfied Is when he's on a drunk
Clarence "Tom" Ashley is my great uncle... I sure I would have been able to know him. My grandad said he would never really amount to much because all he wanted to do was play music... We sure missed alot of great music.
This recording was made in 1933 and is believed to be the earliest recording of it. Tex Alexander 's1928 song The Rising Sun is a completely different song.
do you know if ashley and gwen did anymore recordings? if so do you have access to them? once again if so do oyu think you could post some more cause this is amazing.

Now boys don't believe what a young girl tells you
Let her eyes be blue or brown
Unless she's on some scaffold high
Saying boys I can't come down
I'm going back to New Orleans
For my race is almost run
To spend the rest of my wicked life
Beneath the rising sun
