Not bad at all, I liked your performance very much. You were able to play alot of the fast parts with much energy and seemingly without much tension, though I assume you were running out of steam towards the end given the *clicks* on the bars. Very nice.
I've found 4 ransom videos actually. But this one is still the best! And this inspired me to play it as well. I'll be playing it at TSSEC next monday.
im thinking of getting this piece but i would like to know waht sort of technique is required to play it, like one handed rolls, good individual mallet technique, etc
there are many stickings requiring only mallet 4 16th notes. one handed rolls are involved in two spots, you need to be able to roll different speeds in each hand, speeding up in the right (not what the guy in the video did) the piece isnt that hard overall, but ford wrote a lot of hard licks: octaves going up the board, straight sixteenth notes double verticals croscendo. i love the piece its fun to play, but easy to miss notes and easy to get real tense on.
Sorry, I accidentally pressed 'remove' instead of 'reply' on your other comment.
"I will be playing Ransom. Any suggestions?"
-It would be extremely beneficial to work on triple laterals at a slow tempo and gradually speeding it up, making sure you maintain their fluidity. And of course, ALWAYS practice with a metronome as you learn it. I could go on with more suggestions so message me if you want more.
"Auditioning at any corps?"
-This year will be the first year I go and audition.
wow, nicely played! When I went to college we had the musser 5 octave. How do you feel about it? I love the tone but I was always afraid to crack the low bars.
I really like "pattern pieces" like this one. I will have to pick this solo up at some point!
Maybe you should change your name to hhsmarimbaguy?
its a pity that you have to play such great instrument so well in a school gym. our school has just built a major music auditorium and the difference in sound between the 2 is incredible.

Well, this video fully inspired me to play this particular piece as my sophomore UIL marimba solo this year.
But then I found out it needed a 5 octave.
Boo.

I noticed you omitted the left hand ascending run in measure 143. I think I will have to as well because that part is impossible!

I just love 3:30. It's so heroic, the chord there.
Wonderful piece, played wonderfully.
It makes my back ache though, to see you bent over the whole time.

nice job putting it all together!

this solo was performed at a high level for the simple fact that you showed much expression and musical movement. GOOD JOB
