beautiful truck i love classics im 13 but ive grown up with my grandpa he is a trucker i started shifting when i was 4 when i was 12 i drove my his dump truck it was great its a 1964 gmc dump truck very heavy duty
Give kudos to the old pros who drove these old machines millions of miles, all by hand, and at a cost to themselves too. Today's trucks are far safer, easier and thoughtful to the driver thanks to the groundwork these men and their machines did before.
If you have an interest in old trucks visit the forums at The American Truck Historical Society. Jim is a member and we see this truck at several of the many truck shows across the country every year.
I'll take these old trucks over the new shit today!!! All the pollution crap they can put it where the sun don't shine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Give me an old truck any day any time!
Pretty cool-When he hit 5th on the "main", his hand was right at the "auxilary" shifter, and didnt have to reach for it. Beautiful!!! There is NOTHING like watching an "Old Pro" go through the ol 5x4 and do it so smooth, it sounds like an automatic. Compare them to the wannabes today with 10, 13 and 18 speeds. Sorry-Its insulting to the Old Pros to mention them in the same sentence w/ todays "never-will-bes".
Yea, I always get a kick out of the guy getting out of a company owned truck and asking him... "Hey, what's that truck got for running gear?" He looks confused and replies " I don't know, I just drive it."
@lugger2010 I may not be as good as the old pros like my Dad, but I can hold my own. I can put a truck just about anywhere and go some places that you shouldn't put a truck on our job sites. To insult todays truckers by calling us wannabes and never will bes is a little harsh. I know I'm not the trucker they were years ago, but I try. They had more difficult trans to shift, worse brakes, and bad roads so they had to become good or die. Technology has made our job easier, but we still work hard.
@macktheknife888- perhaps it would be no good for YOU......but that ol' timer has backed up more miles than you & I put together will ever drive forward. Watch him and learn something.
OMGoodness!! what a beautiful truck!!!! Love the sound of the stack from the outside! the inside sounds like a mack B series!! G*d bless this man, master of driving that beast!! totally wow factor here!!
@longroadpro Well, i got to say, that out of all the drivers of big rigs iv'e seen on youtube, you the most skilled out of all of them. Your a true master of the big rigs. The truckers of today don't know how easy they got it. I just wanted you to know that, that a stranger like me, can tell you that i think your the best iv'e seen, a true master behind the wheel of a big rig. Thank you for posting your videos.
@macktheknife888 Shows how little you know. Back when these were new, that's what you had. There were no "fancy" trucks with A/C and air ride cabs, or satellite radios. You went up the hills slow, and you came down just as slow or slower. And remember, the majority of the Highways then were two lane and the speed limt for trucks in most states was 45MPH. Let's see you newbees try and cope with that!
@macktheknife888 Besides what I said earlier, you have to remember, it's not how fast you go thru the gears, but how smooth. I grew up in the livestock hauling business and that's where I learned to drive. You can't do jack rabbit starts and keep your animals standing. This is a livestock truck and a driver that is obviously a good livestock hauler at that. Now don't think I hate you because I am correcting you , but you have to remember, for some of us this isn't just a job but a passion!!
Great video thanks for sharing, obviously an old pro at the wheel :)
