Hammerfall was my gateway band. I started out listening to them only on weekends and when I was out with my friends, but over time I got introduced to metal that just kept getting heavier and more extreme. This is a "rip" of Pachelbel's Canon in D, mostly. It's hard for a non-musician to hear the similarity without knowing it's there. But once you do know what to listen for (ribbit, ribbit), it becomes easy to figure it out. It doesn't mean, of course, that there's anything wrong with this song. It's a popular and well done piece: it takes lots of talent to turn baroque into metal, not too many have done it well.

The relationship with power metal and classical pieces is more complicated than you imply, it's not a "rip" but a "tribute", as we say in the business. It's easier to adapt than really invent new stuff, and this song isn't the only one "ripping" from classics. Swedish power metal should ring a warning bell if you don't want to listen to tributes to classical music. :-)
