  • Like I already said on another video, it's not that HIGHER EDUCATION itself is so bad................it's the COST of higher education! I'm "pro-education" 100% but "anti-deep-shit-debt!"

  • Go to Poland and study for free. Go to Austria Vienna they have English schools

  • Most ANYONE going to a Community College, DeVry, Phoenix University...especially in your Freshman and Sophomore years, DROP OUT NOW AND CUT YOUR LOSSES!!!! Job placement is DEAD! (DOA) Cut your Student loans in half by DROPPING OUT because you won't have a job relevant to your degree anyway. Remember this one fact alone >>>>

YOU CANNOT CLAIM BANKRUPTCY ALONG WITH YOUR STUDENT LOAN!!

  • The government inflated the cost of education on purpose. To push people into debt and to dumb people down. When you are in debt you're not concentrating on your schoolwork. You're just trying to make ends meet and pass.

  • For all those who argue they don't want their tax dollars to go to student loans guess what? They already are! What do think bails out Sallie Mae when students default? If it takes a lifetime to pay off a student loan, what makes you think you can just save up for a few years and pay for it? Don't be so blind to others situations. Not everyone is living the fun and fancy free life that movies advertise in college or after college.

  • I applaud the international bankers for creating the home, student loans and crisis that eliminated hordes of retirement. The system is successful. Look at the true goals of the system: to shift assets, and create an invisible cage. You can go anywhere in the world but your debt and credit score are still there. Think about that. You are in an invisible prison right now AND your complete free to roam around. How ingenious is that! No need to pay for you to be in prison and have that paid for.

  • Just become a full-time student every summer semester at a local community college. Summer semester generally is 2 to 3 months and then your loans are deferred for 6 month afterwards. So for 8 to 9 months every year your loans are deferred. Just take 6 credits in an 100 level on-line course and your a full-time student again and loans are deferred. Generally 6 credit hour equal full-time status during summer semesters. It is cheaper to pay for 6 community college credits than 1 loan payment.

  • Is this just a preview of the documentary or is this the whole thing? If it is just a preview...when and where can I see the entire documentary? Please!

  • help make a difference hsignon.org/sign/want-a-real-economic.fb1

  • It's not the government. They are the puppets. Look to the root of the problem. We are headed to the same recipe as WWII Germany.

  • after study in the US, then run to other country, like i do. i run to Bangkok to find work. eventually i did.

  • they have more schools than jobs out here..but some stuff like education...you want to do to enhance yourself personally...regardless of the outcome...motivation and intent...has a lot to do with it....i would have still gotten my edu on...both degrees..yes lord....i just probably would have done a lil stripping on the side..thats the world we are living in..if you are on any type of serious or for real shit in this world..you are going to be a minute. Love ya'll haha :)

  • professional photographer as a education? uhhh..no!

  • $900 a month?... Damn, who made up the laws regarding student loans because these loan companies are nuts if they think people are making that much on average, especially in the state the US economy is in today. Something that I never understood was no bankruptcy protection against student loans, why is that? What makes these student loans so special?

  • @FrankSheppard973 The real reason or so they say happened back in the 70's and 80's after the federal student loan program was started. Students would take out large loans get their degrees and then claim bankruptcy (Yes one could do that back then) They would then be debt free and in a couple of years have good credit again and they still had degrees. Lawyers did this, Doctors did this. After awhile the banks and those funding the loans got wise and lobbied congress to change the laws.

  • I don’t know five years ago most states had education annuity that would give the student undergraduate degree. That is if the parents and/or grandparents bought at birth. The cost was only 5K it was for any state school you could get into. It paid for the whole works. That was my understanding. Some states even had a one for graduate degree also. It seems to me your parents did not give a shit if you went to college.

  • very very good video

  • ALL you wonderful people who think its a FAULT. its not. I started out with grants and veterans affairs money and then it ran out HALF WAY THROUGH COLLEGE...what am i suppose to do now? Not finish? yeah i think i will drop out fuck college and fuck american society and its "system" it obviously doesnt work for everyone.

  • @KyeSurreall I didn't get grants etc. You should be THANKFUL that you received those funds. People always want to blame the system. The system helped you more than it's helping me, and I am not bitter.

  • @pat206387 I HAD grants my school and fafsa for some reason the process gets fucked..and I HAD money now i dont have anything. so no im not bitter im fucking pissed that i cant finish my education. And im regretting starting.

  • @KyeSurreall Finally someone with some sense. No one has any empathy anymore. Just because you don't have debt doesn't mean the Govt doesn't see you nor treat you as a slave. WAKE UP!!!

  • Those that consider themselves "Slaves to the Lender" put themselves in that position. I decided to pursue a school I could afford, but was creative regarding the regional campuses. I have no sympathy for those who rack up the debt in the sake of the "college and dorm expereince" and whine because they have sticker shock. Heres a thought: be responsible and go to a school you can afford.

  • @pat206387 I went to a community college and then a state school. I'm still in debt even after consolidation. My parents had debts from hospital bills, car repairs, mortgages, but made "too much" on paper for me to get federal student loans that actually help me. So I had to take out private loans. You have no sympathy because you obviously aren't living in the same world as everyone else where shit happens when no money is abound. Must be nice living in la la land where life is apparently cheap

  • @gev2323 I don't live in "la la" land. Your decision towards community college is admirable to minimize your cost, but my point stands the debt should not be eliminated. I don't get federal student loans either. I work, and pay it off. I understand the real world, and how things can go wrong, but do NOT believe personal responsibility should be avoided. The service has been provided, the school should be paid: plain and simple. Default should not be an option or all kids would file bankrupcy.

  • @pat206387 The problem doesn't lie with the students. We were told all throughout our lives that our only chance to get a career and a life worth living was through college and that student loans were the answer if you can't pay. What they DIDN'T tell us is that it is likely that our loan companies will destroy us if we can't find a job equivalent to our field of study. But there are no jobs. None. And companies like SallieMae don't want to negotiate if the borrower can't pay the full amount.

  • I am a student, that is commuting to school, and picked a regional campus of my university to minimize my cost. I am working, and paying off my tuition to avoid all debt. Guess what, I am not partying, or living on campus! Those that use the LUXURY of living on campus (especially when community colleges are readily available to most) should NOT by any means be able to get out of their loans. Go to a school you can afford! Too many go to party then whine later that their loans are expensive!

  • @pat206387 NOT everyone living on campus is from the state or country they are going to college in. JUST SAYING not everything is a luxury but a NECESSITY for most.

  • I guess this is the American way for the new century, if you want a college education you have to get into student loans that have all guarantees and protection for the lender and none for the lendee. Mortgage your future and be paying for the rest of your life if you cant find the job that will pay enough to get rid of them. While in other countries like China people get educated almost for free. Is that the way to compete? Is this the beginning of the end for US, the all mighty superpower?

  • wut happens if you dont decide to pay off your student loans

  • I FEEL SO SORRY FOR YALL GENERATION YOU ARE TOTALLY SCREWED

  • be wise and have discipline.. thats it

  • You don't have to be on default...the DOE has a program of consolidating all of your student loans into one new loan (paying off the multiple existing loans) that's easier to manage and requires a single, lower payment based on your preferences. PM me for the forms. Thanks, and keep your chin up!

  • $80,000 for me... plus what my mom took out

  • We are all slaves to the lender.

  • Um, professional photographers?? Newspaper reporters?? Is this woman for real?

  • too many student livin a chilling live.. partying and drinking getting drunk every weekend.. man.. i dont even feel sorry for them. They deserve their debt!!!

But i do feel sorry for some that worked really hard but still couldnt find a job.

  • When is it people will wake up and realize that education is not synonymous with getting a college degree?

Case in point at 4:22 - Newspaper reporters and photographers are not to be confused with doctors.

  • When a small country like France has free college education and free healthcare, why is it that a country like the United States doesn't? It's because the wealthy in the nation, make the rules for the nation and the number one rule in the United States is, it is okay to treat American citizens like a bunch of cash cows. General Electric didn't pay one dime in income tax, but if you work at a low wage job at Walmart or flip hamburgers, the US Gov sure wants us to pay our hard earned taxes.

  • I went to a community college and earned my AA. Of course, my parents payed my way through each semester, while I worked part time throughout the 2 1/2 years I attended. I got accept into a University paying for half of my tuition, I'm now going to face about 10-14,000 dollars in debt when I graduate. I've saved up a lot of money and reduced my debt by a significant amount.

There are ways to make it without facing a mortgage payment by the time you graduate. YOU have to be resourceful and think

  • You know how much debt I have? $0! You know how much I make a year? $50,000.

    College isn't necesary.

  • Call your Senator and ask him/her to support the "Fairness for Struggling Students Act of 2011."

Call your Congressman/woman and ask him/her to support the "Private Student Loan Bankruptcy Fairness Act of 2011."

SPREAD THE WORD about these bills. They would provide needed relief to a generation of young people who have been ripped off by the greed-driven, for-profit business that is the American higher education industry.

  • Why is student loan debt non-deductible once you make 75K a year, but a billionaire can deduct mortgage interest on a $25 million home? Now you know who runs this country.

  • @kevinusma hello can u plz help me understand what you mean by deduct? i tried searchinf deductable and non-deductable to find out what they mean but cannot find any answers

  • @QandaharIsTheBomb

when the IRS allows you to deduct (or subtract form your gross income) the interest you pay on your student loans, you end up having a lower taxable gross income ( and thus lower taxes).

  • @HayateAzekura Not everyone that is in loan trouble is there because of bad choices. I went into a field that had great prospects with well paying jobs all over the country. I was told not to worry about student loans as they were a, "sound investment." With the jobs that I was seeing advertised, I would have no problem paying back my loans. By the time I graduated four years later, there were no jobs available anywhere in my field. Now I've got a dead-end job and no way to pay loans and bills.

  • LOL.The real problem is that NOBODY cares. As long as the colleges get their money, they DON'T CARE! We need to raise up against this inhumanity and demand REAL CHANGE. The change Obama can't give you. Big business is more fixiated on trying to send jobs overseas. Not only is China's education system better, but NOBODY can work for on average 5,000 dollars a year. No matter how educated you are,you will never be able to live off of what Chinese people live off of.

  • America cannot lead forth pass the 21st Century with an Educational System Like This. Schools are rioting and kids are dressed in baggy clothes spitting and disrespecting teachers.

  • The System is not changed, even with Obama in office. It's 2011, nothing changed. Do you think it will change by 2020?

  • @sandbar3000 The system will only change if the people change. Don't look to someone to lead you, lead yourself.

  • Simple Rule: Never borrow more than what you expect to make in your first year after graduation. A prime example of what's wrong with student debt @ 1:24

  • @mackles, oh okay. So, I should ask for a starting wage of $70K per year? I was 35K in debt with my bachelors, add 20K times 2 years (for masters) it's 75K. Why did I STAY in school to get my masters? Oh yeah, that's right. Since in 2009, I was not working and couldn't find a job in 2009, so I stayed in school so that loan company wouldn't come after me. Half time is all you need. People are staying in school since they are not working. What do the loan companies expect if you are not working?

  • @sandbar3000 I didn't understand some of this, but about the asking for 70k part: You should never borrow more than what you expect to make, also considering accrued interest. The girl at 1:24 has no idea about her debt, and in turn, no idea how to handle it. What a deadly mistake. If you are in school for interpretive dance or shakespearean literature, DON'T borrow 35k if you'll be making 15-20k. If you're in Dental School you have much more room for loans since 100-200k is starting wage.

  • @sandbar3000 We need loan reform but that is just one part. Join a movement to expose the problems with today's colleges. Type Reform Higher Education Now in the search box on Facebook or click CollegeReform below.

  • Soundtrack turns into Radiohead at 4:25

  • Because that's the new mantra in this country, go to college and get a degree, any degree, or else you will fail in life, don't even think of going into a trade or you will end up a wifebeating alcoholic min wage loser, so these kids feel like they have no other option but to take out the loans and get that piece of paper or they feel like they won't even have a chance, and people who should know better fall for it. It's a scam but one that is being perpetuated at the very top.

  • Check us out on TWITTER @DefaultMovie

  • A war is coming in this country.

  • They say the part of your brain that has the ability to predict the consequences of your actions isn't fully formed till your 25 years old. Yet they allow a young person who is just 18 and right out of highschool to take out thousands of dollars worth in student loans. I think its just taking advantage... All that aside. Education should be free for everyone. You pay for the quality of your education. If you have more money you get a better education from preschool-college. It is criminal.

  • @aujuliawod, it IS free in Europe - but you have to pay 50% income tax there - everyone pays 50% income tax. That's why education is free. they tax everyone equally.

  • How do people get into owing 90,000 in debt. This is just stupid. These are the same people who voted people in Washington and have that attitude that " Hey lets just keep throwing money and it will be fixed." The lady at the end us stupid. We are letting too much idiot people into college. So that problem has been created by this idea that everyone should go to college and must even if you are stupid as a rock.

  • It's you choice to get a loan. So no it's not corporal responsibility. it all starts with you.

  • Higher education and student loans are designed to keep the masses off the unemployment rolls. If students in higher education were counted as unemployed then the unemployement rate in the USA would be 30%. The government promotes higher education primarily to reduce the unemployment statistics from their true "Great Depression" numbers of over 30%.

  • In 2008-2009 I help a friend of mine discharge $50K in student loans with the US Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Washington (Tacoma). So, apparently it is till possible to discharge student loans as long as you wait 7 years from the date that the loans first become "due, payable and owing." The following book discusses student loan bankruptcies: "Bankrupt your student loans" ISBN 0976415453

  • Join a movement to expose the problems with colleges. Type in Reform Higher Education Now in the search box on Facebook.

  • I say we all just take out student loans and then leave the country with the loaned money hoorayyY!

  • Here is my question to this administration Repubs and Dems. WHEN WILL YOU GROW A SPINE AND HELP THE AMERICAN STUDENTS? When will greed not guide your decisions in one of the worst economies in our nation's history? STOP TAKING SALLIE MONSTER MONEY! Department of Education is a joke in it for the money with SALLIE MONSTER. Who represents the students? HELLO CONGRESS? HELLO PRESIDENT? HELLO ANYONE WHO DOES NOT HAVE SALLIE MONSTER BUCKS IN THEIR GOLD SATIN POCKETS???

  • Hi: You can discharge your student loans in backruptcy but you have to wait 7 years from the date your balance first became "due, payable and owing." I discharged all $20K of my student loans in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Washington (Seattle). The US Attorney who defended the action for the US Dept. of Education was mad at me asking me "why if you have a BA, a Master's Degree and have attended two law schools can't you get a job and pay your student loans?"

  • @johndhorton You should have asked him if that was a job offer...

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, college is expensive, but ALL students need to understand and accept what they are getting themselves into BEFORE they sign up for all these loans. And college isn't designed to help you find a job, its only there TECHNICALLY to give you an education. If you want to learn a skill, go to vocational/technical school. The economy is total SHIT these days, so it's a gamble to "invest" in an education. I don't think it's worth it these days.

  • sallie mae sue me for not paying my student loan.. now I'm here have to send these fucker money by law.. aahhhhhhh

  • "we have to have newspaper reporters" What? Hahahahahaha

  • Am I ever going to be able to actually watch this? Been checking back for a couple of years now.....

  • @NoXiousBLD try watching it in another browser?

  • @orrin4

Not talking about this video on youtube. I mean the full documentary online.....

  • You Can't decide on what college student loan you should take? Read this article to find out what are the best college loans for students.

  • Go to the gym get hundreds of miles in to you legs , get a boob job, become a prostitute.marry some old love sick westerner, learn a foreign lanuage so he doesn't know you speak english, so he can't see through you, for four years and suck his money dry , they love young women. hard yards first.

  • Learn a trade instead

  • shouldve joined the military LOL

  • @Fnix youre an idiot, the military is getting their wages cut in half as well. plus theres the whole getting shot at thing. you go join the military.

  • @VeNeM999 Military is the best deal out there.

  • @VeNeM999 i am in the military and hardly anyone gets shot at unless you are infantry

  • Don't get loans, Damn, take a year or 2 off and work. Also stop going to fancy colleges and stop living like you are making thousands a year. It's not hard people.

It's your fault, you are in so much in debt. I've made great choices. I don't want my tax dollars to get you out of the hole.

  • @HayateAzekura we don't want tax dollars. we want the interest rates and payment arrangements we agreed to. that is not asking for a hand out.

but don't worry. the fed will screw us all in the end. bet on it.

  • @HayateAzekura No student should have to take years off to save up to go learn the skills they need for a decent job. This is not an issue in other 1st world countries. You cover a lot of topics in your response, and you're right that people do live outside their means. But the fact remains, that people should not be financially punished for wanting to educate themselves. No school should cost $10,000+ per year. The only reason they do is to support ridiculous sports programs.

  • @HayateAzekura you basically have to go to college everything is getting expensive and the dollar is gonna collapse in the near future and to not go to college its pretty hard to make a good living.

  • @HayateAzekura Does it bother you that your tax dollars are going to Corporate wars or Corporate benefits or Wall Street Bailouts or to keep military bases in over 2/3 of the countries in the world or to defend the poppy fields in Afghanistan or to Foreign Aid or TSA?

    ....

Or are student loans your only concern? Have you even considered the other issues? I suppose all those bailouts and trillions of dollars to keep the multi-million dollar bonuses for wall street and banker is ok.

  • I cant agree with you more! I think those students should be held accountable for their actions! If you borrow, you pay that simple!

  • @HayateAzekura I dont go to a fancy school but I still have to take out a loan. Its not an option for everyone to work through college and once your out of college and constantly working its difficult to get back in school. LIFE CAN GET IN THE WAY. Not everyone can have the wonderful opportunities that you may have.

  • @KyeSurreall You do have a point but when your living off your loans alone or those loans are just getting to high and cost as much as a mortgage. Rethink your position. Don't get trapped paying thousands of dollars right out of college.

  • @HayateAzekura Thank you! I am working and paying on my tuition. After 80 hours a week, I feel good knowing I don't have debt. I don't party, live on campus etc. They go to an expensive school, party it up, live on campus, have a blast, then have sticker shock at the bill! Sorry! You should have been more responsible with your financial choice and picked a more affordable school! Thank you for stating the common sense reaction!

  • @pat206387 Yeah when I went through college, I had no life for 3 years. I worked and studied but it was worth it. For me the recession doesn't even exist because now I am a C.P.A. Once you graduate get any job.

Any job is a good job.

College students whine to much, School needs to do this to me, teachers need to do this and that. Most of you are 18, your ADULTS. You are going to have to figure a lot things out and not have your hand held your entire life.

  • @pat206387 You must work over 80 hours a week in order to pay back student loans?? That's truly sad! As for me, I'm on an "Income Sensitive" initiative program myself so I still have time to eat, sleep, remember what my house actually looks like or whatever. Well, I owe about just $20,000 in student loans, but that is still a plenty, isn't it?

  • it's not your tax dollars asshole, sallie mae is a private corporation

  • Sallie Mae is SCUM! STAY AWAY! They can garnish your wages, YOU CAN'T get out of these loans, not even in Bankruptcy! They own you and can get away with murder! PIGS! PIGS! PIGS! If you do not repay them before you die, they can garnish your estate! How can you sleep at night when American students are trying to better themselves? SHAME ON YOU SALLIE MAE!! please also google screw sallie mae, you will find a site dedicated to them! WAKE UP AMERICA private student loans SCAM!

  • @HayateAzekura Even if you could save all the money you made during two years of working as an unskilled laborer to pay for college, you still wouldn't have enough money to pay for a degree. And all colleges are expensive. Actually, the "fancy" colleges help the students in need out a lot more than the crappy colleges. Harvard for instance has a no loan policy. If you're accepted and can't pay for it, they'll cover your costs. If you go to a crappy college, you'll have a hard time finding a job.

  • I hope these suggestions are helpful.

    watch?v=5SYDuiBghPs

  • E. Don't go to an expensive school if you can't afford to without a student loan.

This is not easy for me to say. I only have an AAS degree and used Pell Grants to pay for my education. I would love to go to some expensive tech schools in my city & get a BS but I cannot afford it & am unwilling to fall into this debt trap. I don't a car. I live off of SSI & Section 8 Housing right now even though I do have my degree because I cannot even find a non-skilled job in my industry in my city.

  • watch?v=jc9kYBjqbNU

Screw the banks! Tell people not to take out the loans!

Although I am a conservative, I split with most conservatives on Pell Grants. Rush Limbaugh talks about it being compassionate in people no longer dependent on the government. I am for programs like Pell Grants to make that happen.

  • Yes it is unfair. I don't have a solution in your case but I will tell relatives in high school about this and I do have helpful suggestions for those younger generations. A. See if you can advance in an industry without a college education. (i.e. computer programming only needs library books & a computer, not a college degree). B. Live @ home when going to college (meaning rent & bills are not expenses). C. Work to pay tuition & books while living @ home. D. Apply for Grants & Scholarships

  • how come we the american people don't get a fucking bailout when we need it the most!

  • WOW! I feel sorry for all of them

  • Get rid of credentialism.... why do companies want credentials anyway? You can't assess an individual only case by case right?

College is to get drunk and laid.

  • @SamDeRe81 lol that has always been my backup backup plan =)

  • @SamDeRe81 They want highly skilled people, something that their own citizens don't have, like owning your own business so you can hire their people or welding skills. (AKA rich people) Unfortunately, I'm just a printworker.

  • @SamDeRe81 To become Canadian you can go online and see if you are applicable to become a citizen, based on certain factors. Age, Education, Language knowledge, Assets, Job Experience, and Savings. Europe will be harder for you. But for Canada you can get a job overseas, see if you like the country, and then renounce your US citizenship, if you are not an American, your debt from School is void. I know of Germans who did this :-)

  • In hopes that students from these schools might be able to submit their information into an online database. Just go to the Campus Progress website and click "for profit colleges" then scroll down and click "submit your story"

  • God help us

  • As an Australian all i can say to America's youth is one word. Immigrate!

  • @TruthandLiberty1 I don't qualify. I filled out the paper and can't afford the VISA.

  • move to Canada and Europe and renounce your U.S. citizenship

  • @edwardwills

Fortunately, I do not have these loans, but I've been thinking about it for some time now. Even the great Tea Bag Socialist Boogie man is a DINO. This country is swirling down the toilet fast, and the Tea Party keeps jiggling the handle.

  • They should stop having degrees in college that are unmarketable.

  • i can say that the best guides regarding student loans where offered by studentloansportal . org . they people behind that student loan center are real great . they will answer you on any problem you might have.

  • the higher education system is a con by governments , academics, student loan companies and politicians to try to suck you into debt to rope you and enslave you into a system.

  • Please join the move to oust Dr. Amy Gutmann at the University of Pennsylvania from her position as president, because money is a terrible thing to waste.

One million dollars could fund a lot of programs in West Philly, especially for the poor black folk pushed to edge by University City.

  • The CEOs want this. You become good little lackys when in debt like this.

  • I hope members of congress take the time to view things like this. I can't see how these poor people are going to be able to handle debt of $100,000 or more. What the hell does a person do, when they enter college in their 50's? The chances of them paying off their loan is close to none. In the years to come, I seriously think that more and more people will be forced to default-- house bubble of 08, which will = another deep recession.

  • The truth is that 99 out of 100 of the good jobs today require a degree and many Americans have no choice but to finance their pricey degrees. They didn't create the system, they just have to live in it.

There's got to be a better way for poor people to get the education that is necessary to participate in today's economy. Saddling them with crippling amounts of debt doesn't defeats the purpose. Student loans were intended to help the poor, not screw them for life. The irony is unbearable.

  • @jasonpatrickries I think that "a degree" is part of the problem. There's actually an over abundance of unmarketable degrees out there. Secondary education is getting worse at teaching science and math so more and more students go to college under the guise that they'll make above average salary, without researching the details.

  • @LexPhilogus Its a corrupt system designed to make the illuminati and intelligenti richer. Thats why they sell the idea of a 'degree' to enslave you to a system of debt that makes them richer and leave you in debt until your 50s. They dont want to pay for their mistakes.

  • DONT GOTO COLLEGE THEN!

STOP LIVING THE DREAM - LIVE REALITY!

IF YOU CANT AFFORD SOMETHING, THEN YOU CANT HAVE IT!

    FACT

  • Let me see if I understand you correctly, the great equalizer only applies to the wealthy and the American Dream ought to be inherited. Nothing is earned anymore, its inherited. That logic will create a society where YOUR brain surgeon isn't their because of their skills and abilities but rather, their families ability to finance their education. Sounds like a very inefficient use of human capital. Let people discover where their talent lies and then go pursue their dreams and keep money out.

  • @CLAPHAMCHAMPION haha...you are sooo thick!

  • Comment removed

  • @CLAPHAMCHAMPION What condescending drivel! Seems to me, you subscribe to the just-world fallacy of blaming the victims. For any other type of loan, you have to apply, meaning the lender does a risk/benefit analysis based on how much money you actually make. ALL college freshmen are eligible for several thousands of dollars in loans based on the remote possibility they will make lots of money after they graduate. This is a bad wager that can only be realized in hindsight.

  • @CLAPHAMCHAMPION What a bunch of oversimplified BS. People go to school because they've been told their whole lives that they're "supposed to." Practically NOBODY can afford to pay for it ALL AT ONCE and that's what loans are for. But people don't automatically assume that they're going to get hit with monthly payments of $1,000.00, $2,000.00 or more after school. As they SHOULD be able to, they trust that the American higher education industry will not pull this kind of greed-driven crap.

  • Slavery!

  • I pay 875$ a year for school and that it I have 0$ debt and im not american:)

  • Damn...im 19, im starting college next fall. Im trying to play football at san jose state, hopefully I can get a scholarship so this doesnt happen.

  • @td31g You should look into those scholarships, grants etc.

  • @robomanification do you know how much you can get through fafsa?

  • @td31g Pretty much if you accept any grants, they will be in the 5K range.

It's also dependant on your college of choice. And also keep in mind that schools will offer work study programs in your major. Look into those first.

  • @td31g also you have until august of 2011 to submit your fafsa. Hope this helps.

  • @robomanification yeah man thank you..i've started my fafsa and hoping to finish it on tuesday. as for the grants, i need to find some and apply still

  • @td31g Kid...if you are only going to college to play football...your priorities are truly messed up...quit while you can...start a business

  • @GoinsReport i never said that. i just said hopefully playing football will help me earn scholarships. i would be a student athlete, student coming first. i am planning on starting a business after school though, so thanks for the input.

  • @td31g Mea Culpa.

  • Student loan debt is UNACCEPTABLE

  • nothing wrong with community college. you can then transfer to your dream school.

also, try having a job while in school. Personal finance should be taught to all high school students to ensure this crap doesn't happen.

  • @thearaban You can know all the personal finance in the world- it doesn't lower the rising price tag of a college education, which should be a right for everyone and not only for those who can pay.

  • Two years ago my balance was: $30,000. Now it is: $42,000 because I have been unemployed and have not even been able to make minimun payments due to the cost of living. In two years the federal government tacked on $10,000 in penalties...........HOW FUCKING UN-FAIR IS THIS IN A FREAKIN' DEPRESSION THAT WE ARE IN?

  • @clintdanz in this country, the government clearly does not look after the interests of its OWN people so you should consider that when you are waiting for a miracle by the government. i truly wish you the best and hope the world's kindness will see you through a fulfilling life.

  • @clintdanz God bless you real good! I hope your situation changes very soon. I don't understand how anyone could be treated like this.

  • @clintdanz Not the government's fault you were foolish enough to take out loans for college lmao

  • @clintdanz o man i'm so sorry. these student loans are getting waaaayy out of control. i'm starting to rethink the actual value of college. i know far too many people who attended and graduated from college and can't find work. i even know a law school grad who has been unemployed for six months. she took out loans both undegrad and in law school. how is she supposed to pay this off?? this is insane......

  • @clintdanz You took a risk. Stop blaming everything else for your mistakes. Once you take on the blame, you'll figure out which holes need to be plugged and plug em.

  • let's face it the president don't care about debt, are congress is getting paid off not to do anything about it we live in a USA mad world

  • worst part is they give those loans on permission with money that never existed at all in the first place, with no concideration on their part. Lyability on paper that is backed by nothing at all. This borders on these loans being illegal in the first place and raises a big question if they even need to be paid back at all. The bankers just keep driving the screws in to further educate a country they want to keep dumb abd stupid by design. The whole point, owe and pay more, more, and more.

  • @SilentTrama It's a trick. First, the federal government backs student loans, making them more accessible. Second, universities raise tuition in response to all the new students. Third, the job market crashes because of too many graduates. Fourth, the federal government declares student loan debt unforgivable. Lastly, people with unforgivable debt are slaves to the debt holder. That is, they owe the products of their labor (money) to the debt holder. Clever girl...

  • Why is the cost of education skyrocketing every year and why are so many college presidents making over a million dollars a year? Yes Sallie Mae is unscrupulous but what about the inflated costs of these schools which increase every year?

  • Why the fuck are people borrowing all this money for school? I went to a state school and borrowed 17K for 4 years. Why the fuck are these kids borrowing 25K a year for school? Idiots

  • thestudentloanmarathon . com

this is an idea of think outside the box

  • thestudentloanmarathon . com

  • sometimes we cannot get mad at Sallie Mae, although we have all the reasons in the world to be mad at them. We just have to move on and think outside the box to pay our loans off. My wife and I have over $63,000 in student loans combine, so we decided to think outside the box and ask people to help us. Sometimes you just got to do what you have to do.

  • student loan! sigh!

  • My credit dropped after i couldnt do da monthly payments dat was 412 a month... Den i was informed dat i had 2 more private loans with another conpany dat wanted 458 a month... So i said fuck dem alittle over 870 a month and for all my loans and i have a family... Fuck deeeeeemmmmmmm

  • System is collapsing people, debt might be forgiven after the bankers are ordered to court for jail. Hang in there people.

  • Bottomless hole my ass. I paid off my student loan 4 years after graduating. Stop getting bullshit degrees in Liberal Arts

  • @avataz you're an idiot.. You think our country or the globe for that matter can sustain our way of life.. look at the trillion dollars of debt, the FED is defaulting right before your eyes.. College obviously didnt teach you shit. ass hat

  • The CEOs love this. Here comes the next crew of corporate lap dogs.

When you owe like these people, they own you.

  • This is sad. but is this better A video by square3 called Student Loan 98

  • when is this shit coming out?

  • this is so perverted...here in germany you have regions where college is almost FREE and the education is just very good, in other regions you pay around 12.000 Euros for the whole time. it's breathtaking, I didn't know what american students have to bear, I feel truly sorry for them.
