I wouldn't mind to have a 4 speed set-up in my 1970 gs455 convertible.The 400th does the job but,you know that a manual tranny has that aggressive feeling...Macho stuff...girls included.
Nice car! keep working on your launch/shift technique. You gotta slam that shifter like you're trying to break it off! What RPM are you shifting at? I'm guessing around 4500 RPM? The 455 bottom end is good for 6500 RPM with 2 bolt mains. Try a larger cam, single plane intake and maybe an 850 cfm holley. Good Luck and keep us posted.
That was a over two years ago. I've added a single plane and 950 Holley to it, as well as suspension work. I've got it down to 11.87 @ 3800 lbs. I shifted there @ 5000. But I regularly wring it out to 5900 now.
try a higher gear ratio for better low end, makes a WORLD of difference. higher stall converter never hurt eiether if ya dont have it. 455 4 speed with a small cam should definitely be doing a little more than 14's, i would think at least high 12's low 13's...? not sure. nice car man
4 speed with a stall converter? That'd be a first. Didn't do a 14 either. Did a 13.3 here. Went a 13.19 too. When the new combo's put together, I throw up a video. For now I have to go find that 4 speed torque converter.

That's hard to believe. Type in 11.57 and see what 11 seconds looks like.

NICE Buford, brother! You don't see enough 4 speed Skylarks, and the Buick 455 is one of the most underrated and overlooked engines ever.
