  • The Ritter organ method includes this piece as Bach's but also a very similar (but simpler) piece by Krebs. I think that the Krebs piece is an erlier version of BWV 740, and this can prove that is also from Krebs. Krebs wouldn't publish as his a simplified version of a Bach piece. I suspect that Ritter also thought that BWV 740 was written by Krebs, and publishing both pieces was a subtle form of proving it.

  • I suppose this was done in a Lutheran Church.

  • Nice piece, but I don't recognize Bach's style in this.

  • Now I know a little more!! I recently bought the complete organ work of Krebs (newest Version of Gerhard Weinberger) and this piece was in it and it is officially proofed that it is not by Bach (there is a clear statement in the book), it's by Krebs and misattributed to Bach! Just a really interesting fact!

  • why don't they ever zoom in on the ridiculous footwork? there are two voices in the pedal...

  • @colinmacknight There is a rumor that this piece wasn't composed by Bach because of the Double-Pedal. The true composer might be Krebs because it is unusual for Bach putting two voices in the pedal! I don't know whether this is right. I mean, Bach was a genius! However it isn't clear whether this is from Bach or Krebs.

But one thing is totally clear: It is a wonderful piece and mr. Stamm does an amazing job in this video!

  • @OrganPianoMusic but bach did use double pedal in other works that are certainly by him (aus teifer from clavierubung III). it was very unusual though

  • @OrganPianoMusic

I think one should find a better argument to affirm that a composition attibuted to Bach is not his.

Double pedal has never been a rule for any baroque composer. Search Buxtehude, Bruhns, Lübeck among others. You won't find many pieces with a double pedal.

  • Very nice.
