I know nothing about dance; I started watching this and thought, wow, this is *improvised*. Beautifully done. This dance is so passionate and you can clearly see how they work together and how they grow more comfortable with one another's styles over the course of the dance. I really enjoyed watching this!

This is not "Dancing with the Stars," where the male lead is expected to dress and move like some olympic ballerina. As Maranco says, this is real dancing, which happens wherever you are, and however you are dressed. When the man has a simplified movement (not exaggerated, stylistic fluff), it shows his lead is solid, and does not distract from the grace of the woman. He presents her as the beautiful one, but she has nothing without his frame.

Hi! There are a lot of styles in tango. So people dance in both open and close embrace and a lot of variation in both.

There are various styles of "embraces", yes you are correct. One of the styles is called "close embrace" where the left arm of the partner encompasses the neck of the leader. And the right arm of the leader is placed completely around the back of the partner, and the tips/palm of the leader's hand is placed under the sholder of the partner.

You should keep in mind that the "professionals" that you're talking about dance a different genre of tango-- Tango Escenario. That's show tango, and it's choreographed. What you're watching here is Tango Salon, and it's entirely improvised. Thus, It's usually smoother (due to the fact that the lead knows what hes doing!). I like it too :)

Michael Salsa75... this performance was at desafios maestros 2006. We did not know which music we were going to dance to... the idea was to put two couples with opposite approaches on the dance (that year we co-taught with Claudia and Esteban) to share a class... and then give a performance to music which the audience chooses. This project is still going on in BA every March... a lot of fun... come check it out!
