i'm having trouble with this move because when i go to pin their arm down (in this vid the right arm is being set up for the americana, the opponent will buck me and sweep me to his left). i'm having this problem for the kimura as well from the mount. that is as soon as i pin their arm down, they will buck and sweep me to the opposite side. but using your forehead to pin the forearm i wasnt doing and i think it will help
Oo, i learned this in my japanese jiu jitsu class. i love it :) we call it o niki daki(not sure about the spelling) in brazilian jiu jitsu you would call it americana
well i've wrestled all my live and started doing bjj 7 months ago, and theres nothing wrong with being the strongest and biggest in your weightclass in wrestling or jiu jistu. take any advantage you can get
thats what im sayin, unless you just wanna be real short with a lot of muscle mass and fight bigger guys (see Frank Shamrock) it really is better to cut weight though
In all the high level tournaments, you fight the same day you weigh in. So you really have no time to recover. I don't cut weight when I fight, but I would think that wouldn't be good.
In all high level tournaments, you fight the same day you weigh in???? Since when? Pro fights you weigh in the day before. Some amateur tournies you turn up and have your fights on the same day though...
Theres no such thing as "Pro" or "Amateur" Jiu-Jitsu, lol. I competed at the World Championships in Long Beach and I had to fight the same day I weighed in. Look up the rules kid.
Wow, patronising much? There is such a thing as pro or amateur when you consider many promotions allow fighting across martial arts forms and these generally have amateur/semi pro/pro bandings. Considering that the guys comment previous referred to Frank Shamrock, a UFC fighter, it can be assumed we're talking in terms of this type of competing. So no, you do not weigh in the same day you fight in ALL high level competitions. Look up the rules kid.
Shut the fuck up. Jiu-Jitsu is not MMA! Its it own sport and there is no pro or amateur what part of that don't you understand. I said Jiu-Jitsu like 5 times. The ibjjf states you must weigh in the same day you fight with your gi on, if its a gi competition. Read what I write first stupid. Jiu-Jitsu, not MMA, not Judo, not Boxing.
Actually you didn't say Jiu-Jitsu until after I'd mentioned pro tournaments, also regardless of what you'd said, the previous comments to which we both responded mentioned UFC fighters, so your comment specifically about Jiu-Jitsu was redundant anyway. I won't bother trading insults with you online since anyone can talk a good fight, but if you would like to back up your words, let me know and I'll msg you the next few competitions and promotions I'll be fighting in so we can meet in the ring...
@Snoochy2006 I actually just competed in a Jiu Jitsu competition and I weighed in the Night before without my gi on. it was a gi competition. I think it all depends on who is hosting it and how they want to run the competition
In wrestling the goal is to be in the best shape possible. I would think the same would be true with any sport involving weight classes... jiu-jitsu included. I never said that jiu-jitsu was not technique oriented either, i was only denying the fact that wrestling is all about strength. Sure, it helps, but the goal is to be in the best all around shape... after that technique will always win a match. Wrestling is a thinking mans game too... its not a grudge match.
if you think that wrestling doesnt involve technique than youve OBVIOUSLY never wrestled before. In wrestling Technique > Strength... unless youre an uberpussy
Then how come Gracie Jiu Jitsu defeated men 400+ lbs. But The Father of GJJ couldnt defeate somone with 20 lb advantage? I do BJJ,My instructor is Charles Dos Anjos who got his Black Belt from Royce Gracie,I am just making sence here, dont throw a temper tantrim
the teaching level in BJJ is much different than other martial arts, purple belt is the lowest level allowed to teach, due to the fact that it takes alot longer to reach each belt than in other martial arts because there are less belts.and because there are less belts the practictioner needs to be very proficient in their art.
nope... it`s kimura. it`s named after masahiko kimura, who used it to defeat helio gracie in one of the most legendary fights in martial arts history.
dude, there is an entire family of gracies and you can`t be practicing in Helio Gracie`s academy because he died this year. You may be practicing with one of his sons.
The only Gracie I know with no losses on his record is Rickson. Many of them lost to the same guy, Kazushi Sakuraba.
Helio Gracie did lose to Kimura, but he lasted a lot longer then Kimura said he would and Kimura was a lot heavier. After the fight, Kimura said Helio`s technique was impresive.
It was untrue about Kimuras weight,he was 7 lbs heavier than Helio. But BJJ has evolved since then..allot. I belive Helio would win if they had a re match.
With the americana the head being pressed down also prevents any facial damage in a street fight because the face is away and out of reach, and adds more pressure, really great stuff
you should use the inner thigh or the front of the pubic bone when you lift. You shouldn't have to lift unless your partner is double jointed. If they aren't particularly flexible in the elbow it is likely something missing from your technique.
wear a cup :).. or if you do the arm bar right you should be sqweezing your thighs together just above your own balls to lock his tricep/bicep and your balls should be sweet.
well im sure you've figured this out my now, but ya, try a cup for training..in the street, if the tech is done properly, their elbow wont rest on your balls, it will rest on your pubic bone and maybe your pecker depending on how endowed you are lol..but overall it doesnt present that much of a prob when your adrenaline is going and you want to hyper-extend your enemies elbow..in other words..the end justifies the means =)
Very nice. I've been having issues with getting the Americana because the guy puts his hands together just as you demonstrated. I'll try traversing to the armbar now. Thanks!
Awesome video, I had a training partner who was good, and I managed to get a mount position, but he kept locking his hands like that and I didn't know what to do. I will definitely try this next time thanks guys! :)
gracie is a complete tithead, from the start in ufc 1 he thought he was amazing, ego like a dickhead, he just jumps on ppl, he has no stand up, and he tries to invent stupid stupid STUPID things like, a fucking palm strike or a ridiculas heel to the ribs, its somthing a 5 year old wud do in a fight
BJJ is more for self defense. Jiu-Jitsu or rather Ju-Jutsu (Japanese) translates to "gentle skill" or "gentle art". It's not focused on striking like kickboxing or american boxing. Say what you will but it's effectiveness has proven to been proven in real life hand to hand combat, and in sports such as MMA.

Hey nice video. was grappling with some friends this past weekend and i mounted this dude like 100 times but he was really strong so everytime i went for the armbard he was able to keep his arm close to him so i only had his hand. How can i get his entire arm? and on the Americana i might need to adjust my body more but i couldnt get it either he was really strong got any tips for me because im going again this weekend and i wana finish him one of those ways. Im tired of just choking him hahaha
