i have the exact same tenors, i march with them, and i hear them everyday, and they sound amazing, so 1.)don't blame the head, blame the guy tuning it. 2.) don't depend on youtube videos where the sound can be altered or damped my a crappy quality video camera.
This is old school cavaliers tenor technique. They did some crosses that no lines even touched. Like a 1-2-3-4-2-3-4 sextuplet single (#s represent the drums). The west coast SCV type quads used french grip would cross at the wrist no matter how many drums apart. Totally different stuff
His drums sound like shit.. i think its cuz he keeps hitting center of drums.. which is bad technique ..so now im not sure if i should listen to him???
Yes, his drums do sound bad, it's mainly those frost heads he's using(i prefer the coated, but thats just me). What he's saying about technique is very good and you should listen to him.
You have to remember, he is indoors. That shuts up a lot of the tones, and the drums can't sing. If he is playing a recording for evans, the room he is in is probably a sound proof room. That can make tenors sound like crap.
@drummerscar15 I totally agree with you.
This guy is a moron, he is playing on the center.

This vid would have been a bit more helpful to me if they had shown an overhead view instead of front.

He also is not hitting in the center, if you look closely, he is actually hitting towards the top of drums 3 and 4 which is correct when crossing...
