Need I remind you that Reagan cut taxes in the middle of a deep recession. In Dec. 82 the unemployment rate was 10.8% and by March 89 it was 5%.
The top income tax rate was 70% when he entered office, he cut it (along with corporate taxes) to 28%. You just want higher taxes to punish successful people and pay for all your unsuccessful social programs.

In addition, you fail to look at debt as a % of GDP. I don't like running deficits. but it's hovered around 35% of GDP for a long time. Obama's FY09 deficit as a % of GDP will be the highest since FDR was in office.
FDR ran massive deficits and unemployment was still over 17% at the end of his second term.
If you're worried about spending, reform entitlements, they eat up a lot more of the budget than any Iraq or Vietnam ever did.

Unemployment and inflation were going up at the end of Carter's Administration. They continued up until Reagan's first round of tax cuts took effect in Jan 83.
Unfortunately, Reagan had to make a concession to the Dums in his second term. More income tax cuts and a higher cap gains rate.

Education spending does nothing to "stimulate consumer spending" which was apparently the point of this "stimulus." Consumer spending is a major part of the economy. Sen. Harkin sent me a letter saying he opposed the ATM patch because "it wasn't stimulating consumer spending" despite the fact most of the bill did nothing to "stimulate consumer spending."
