  • If i was homeless, id prefer money.

  • watch this

  • Bueno I like your hands and nail cleand and perfect, that is the first thing I look in a woman. Love True and Respect better than money but whent you are realy poor you are far away front everyting.

  • My family and I are from Canada, but we moved down to Mexico so we could help the poor. We started saving up and asking friends to send money, so we could buy presents and food for people who hardly ever have any, and during the holidays would never be able to afford gifts for their children. It was amazing how appreciative they were.

  • shitty asshole'd faggat

  • Raisins? I believe we should give them a box of prunes. In this way, we can not only feed the homeless, but keep them regular as well. Amen Oky Christians!

  • that is the coolest idea, i love to help people out when every i can. like i was the dd fro 2 drunks this last weekend. they was in no condition to drive. so they had me.love it. hope your family has a great christmas.

  • There used to be a tramp who lived in a bus shelter near where i live and he was kinda like a local celeb because everyone knew him, every year loads of people would take him stuff and after a while he started turning things down,"he even asked what brand of cigarette it was when i gave him one" after a while someone gave him golf clubs because the busshelter backed on to the course,"nice thing to do" but when he went to play the owners threw him off because he did't pay! where's the love man

  • WE had a guy like that in Norman, when I was in college - Hat Man - he wore a stack of hats and carried a flash light!

  • A girl I knew was always prepared with gift boxes for men and for women in her car ( about 20 bucks each ) each full of different things either sex could use, like razors, socks, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, that kind of thing. Always better than just handing out money...

  • Great idea, so many things are better than money! Thanks paul!

  • Thw video seems a little odd but you have a point. Most of our supplies are going to Iraq. Iraq is one of the reasons the stock is going down. If the stock went up from the market then we could do more. My mom gives a lot of money to shelters. I'm mainly saying it'll be better when the war ends hopefully.

  • They need help too del. sorry to be ... odd...? As far as helping people, if you have two good choices you can't go wrong. Choose one, make a difference and go on down the road.

  • I know right now it is not a popular place to eat but I use to carry coupons to McDonald's and give them out.

  • Sounds like a great place to eat to me! Thanks tech!

  • You could tll who was lieing from that. People asking for money to scam would get mad when they got the coupon. But, generally the appreciated it.

  • Yeah, I know. They're busy. But you know what they say:

If you have some work that *has* to get done, give it to a busy couple!

  • WE won't be running for office anytime soon, I promise!

  • Stacie and Chad for President! Yay!

  • Couples ballot?

  • Oh, hi Stacie! I was so wrapped up in myself that I didn't even see you there!

    You have a beautiful voice.

Is there anything you can't do?

  • Math

  • LOL!

  • What's their answer? What do guys I've talked to say is the single best thing middle class folks can do?

    They don't know.

They appreciate my treating them like human beings for a few minutes though.

    Frustrating.

    I want to know.

  • I take my classes to the shelter so they can visit and get to know the people there. It opens there eyes to the humanity of it all.

  • I couldn't agree with Chad and Stacie and the commenters more. We need to talk to the shelters and find out what people need here in our town, as opposed to the big cities.

Maybe the best thing we can do sometimes is to just ask the homeless guy himself.

I do that. I ask what middle class Americans can do to make the life of "people who live outside" better. [I'm PC. So sue me! LOL. Sometimes I think 'PC' is right-wing code for 'polite'.]

  • Your right- RI different shelters have different needs. You can't go wrong with donating socks and underwear, but some may need pillows and blankets. Or they may need a volunteer career counselor. It is best to ask.

  • Some NEED money. Some just use it for DRUGS.

Some need food. Many get plenty of hot meals and will actually turn down an offer of food.

If you are bored, try taking a guy to lunch. It's eye-opening.

I think it's important to realize that it's a fair exchange. You benefit, too. Sometimes more than the homeless guy.

  • Exactly RI - it is an exchange. You can't help but feel better in your soul when you do something for someone else. I don't have money to give at this point in my life, but I do have other ways I can help. I think a lot of people think that money is the only way to help and if they don't have it then their hands are tied.

  • I think the best thing we can say about homelessness is that it is impossible to generalize.

Some are alcoholics or drug addicts. Some are NOT. Some are mentally ill. Some are NOT.

Some are con artists. Some are NOT. Some are really, really nice. Some are not.

Maybe homeless men are as diverse as men with homes.

  • You are soooo right. There are many people who have left comments right here that where at one time or another homeless. And now they have a home and a computer with a camera. Sooo, almost everyone has one point or another when they need help from another human being.

  • i had hard times once, its a horrible existance!i cannot walk by any more, stacie you are right the world would be a better place if we all just cared about our fellow humans!!!!

  • It's true. We all have hard times. I can remember Chad and I both losing our jobs when we first got married and we sacrificed our food money to pay the mortgage. A couple days later a friends mom showed up at our door with a bag full of food, she claimed she'd been cleaning out here freezer. That food got us by. I'm glad someone cared enough to help me.

  • odd request.

  • Well, if I were a homeless person I'd rob a bank. Then if i got caught I'd go to jail and get free food and shelter. If I didn't get caught I'd have free food and shelter.

  • Now you're thinking pongman. hehe...

  • Is everyone in America a religious nutcase i'm all for helping the homeless but what has Jesus some mad cult leader from antiquity got to do with it.

  • darren - for whatever reason you want to help anyone, it's a great thing to do.

  • Wow..... ye didn't take the bait. Your actually genuinely interested in helping the homeless. Philanthropy above Christianity. What an unusual christian you are.

  • excellent video & channel stacie, just subscribed.

  • Thanks CV - I'm glad you liked the video. I hope it can made a little bitty bit of difference.

  • This is what my family is doing right now and it works. If you really want to help someone, go to a shelter or church and let them know your intentions. See who needs the most help and offer them a means to support themselves (job). If they agree, give them a place to stay, and food for up to a certain amount of time. "Give people fish and you feed them for a day, show them how to fish and you feed them for a lifetime".

  • That's great chat - My dad teaches a career class at our shelter because of that exact reason. Thanks for your comment.

  • poop - very good question. Anyone need their poop cleaned?

  • It is not our responsibility to help he homeless they had a choice in life.

  • okay. magoopup

  • It might not be your responsibility, but wouldn't it be nice to help out? You never had a choice to be born in a place you can call home either, but you did. From experience in dealing with true homeless people, some just gave up on life and expect your help, but some others truly didn't want this and did what they could to not be in this situation. Visit a shelter, talk to them and listen to their stories, it will open your eyes a little more...

  • great response

  • umm...yeah...i'm going to have to admit...i think its kind of phony that people around this time of year wanting to make it seem like their saints or caring human beings by trying to help the needy! Why not do it before or all the time!

So if my legs are cold...will u donate ur used stockings to me stacie, lol???

and i think I'll catch more flack if i do posts slide shows pics of bums I've taken & posting it on the Tube!

  • I dunno, i think anytime of year that someone wants to help others is better than never helping anyone. But you're right. People need help all year long.

I once was in a foreign country, alone, in the cold and I had no socks and I said a prayer and someone gave me socks. so yes, if you needed socks, I would give you some of mine.

  • stacie..my best advice to those watching this vid is to PAY IT FORWARD! people should learn what those three words mean and put it to practice! PAY IT FORWARD!!!

  • stacie..is it the vid with the singing? if so, that one is VERY powerful! the problem i have is it seems people become giving only once a year. when i WAS a christian, i made it a lifestyle choice. i'm 100% or not at all. that's just me though.

  • The guy who did that one was homeless at one time. So was Katalina, i didn't know that about her. I guess Taylor goes by chatwithphylo.

  • stacie..i'm watching his vid right now. PAY IT FORWARD!

  • chad/ stacie..sure i get caught up in the meaningless aspect of life but that only clouds the bigger picture. if there is a heaven and God is real then one soul can touch another. even if touching that soul is by saying a kind word or offering a hungry person food. if only i could aspire to that level. sounds good on the surface but i'm trapping myself in the idealists realm.

  • You should watch taylors response. Its really good.He talks about how good it feels to do good. Therefore making ones own life better. Also when you spend your time helping someone else you run out of time to worry about your own problems

  • I'm going to spend the evening with the kids now. Later! Thanks for your great ideas.

  • I know that OU medical school has a project where they help place mentally ill patients in an actual home/apartment, give them medication, and visit them on a weekly basis. The problem they have is that they always need help with delivering the meds and things like that. That could be a start for someone looking to help this aspect of the homeless. Find a local medical organization that works with a similar program and volunteer your time.

  • chad..that's altruism. i believe anything people can do to help will make at least some difference.

i'll be honest, i'm more of a talker than a doer when it comes to the homeless issue. my excuse (and this IS an excuse) is lack of time for others. then again, a movie about homeless people would help though.

  • YOU SHOULD DO THAT!!!!! CLAY!

  • stacie...a movie is about all i can offer. i'll think of something. this IS more 'up my alley.' i love playing downtrodden characters.

  • That is your strength that YOU can share! Bringing awareness through your art.

  • stacie..i will do that someday. i'm not sure when though. have you seen PAY IT FORWARD? i absolutely LOVE the concept of paying it forward! if only...ya know.

  • Yes clay wonderful movie!

  • Kevin Spacey was amazing in that film! PAY IT FORWARD!

  • stacie..maybe this is how souls touch one another in the brotherhood of man/woman?

  • I like Kats idea to get $5 gift cards at McDonalds and keep those on hand.

  • c'mon guys, let's share ideas of things we can do.

  • seemscool2me..what do you have in mind?

  • truth is, i feel for the downtrodden. i've always felt a kinship with the underdogs of society. i can't say all homeless people deserve their fate but some would rather intoxicate themselves or be drugged than do honest work. for those, i have no empathy.

  • Clay - My dad has been teaching a little employment class at the shelter and out of all those who have come to his class, he has only found one capable of holding a job. There are some who can, but most cannot. Too many problems.

  • stacie..i understand that too. mental issues are a barrier. our world will never be a paradise. we have to deal with problems as they come. homelessness will probably always be an issue.

if you look at how wealthy some people are in our country, you'd think they'd share a little more!

  • stacie/chad..it's always good to serve others. i'm not saying that's wrong in any way. i'm looking deeper. the problem is money. funding is needed.

  • Clay - it's true, its true

  • i'm going to try to get the comments back to the way they were in the beginning. i think that setting aside time to go and serve is one of the best ways we can forget ourselves and help those in need.

  • even if its not with homeless, serving others is a great way to forget ourselves.

  • chad..serving others is one of the greatest gifts one humman can give to another. i serve only myself but that's my issue. i'm self-centered.

  • you've never seemed "self-serving" to me. You did the music on a few of Stacie's movies out of the kindness of your heart.

  • Reid...I'm sad that you would think I would lie to you....I'm more often brutal in my expression of truth than pandering....you asked if I would state my opinions here...I did...and they weren't changed....

  • Stacie think about turning off comments???¿¿¿???

This is looking like a chat room :(:(

What a pitty there are so many small minded bitter people around........

  • For some reason Gordon, I doubt you "lied" about anything. You seem like a straight shooter and I don't you would back peddle from anything you felt was correct.

  • chad, did i say anything offensive? why have my comments been deleted?

  • clay - I'm the only one who can delete and I promise I've deleted nothing of yours. Please post them again.

  • stacie..i didn't see them.

what i was saying is that many homeless people are addicted to drugs and have mental illness. it's ok to help them, but the root of the problem lies deeper.

  • You're right. untreated mental illness is rampant in the homeless community. Unfortunately, its what leads many of the homeless citizens to be in the situation they are in.

  • You are right on Clay. I can't fix that, but I try to do what I can.

  • stacie..i can't fix that either but there are those who try but don't have funding to do so. it's a shame.

  • sadly, mental illness funding is being severely cut around the country. Free psychiatric clinics are being shut down left and right due to funding issues. Not sure how to fix that problem, but it definitely exists.

  • chad..even in my city, a mental health facility was shut down due to lack of funding by the state. many patients were moved to various hospitals and others were left to fend for themselves.

  • We've had that happen here too clay. It's very sad and frustrating. Some people need a place even if they are not a threat to themselves or others. Seems thats the only way to get treated these days.

  • stacie..i studied the prison system and it seems the inmates who are most volatile recieve the best treatment. that means, the ones who are most threatening are rewarded. strange, don't ya think?

  • no, you didn't. I was just clarifying my statement as you had asked for. I have the utmost respect for you and love your comments.

  • chad..i'm more of a solution-oriented person. i look at the root source of the problem.

  • I agree, if the mental illness aspect can be treated, then the shelters would have lots less people.

  • Very well Reid...As I have said repeatedly on your comments...communication is the root of the problem here...unfortunately it seems to be on your end for the most part Reid...I didn't see anything by Stacie or her husband on your vid...and I thought I made it very clear that this wasn't about one single person or event...watch the vid again if you missed that part......

  • if there are things I don't know about then I can't very well comment on them...but my stance will not change regardless...I would have thought that apparent by the fact that I posted them on a public forum...Reid...you have my phone #...please feel free to call for a more interactive convo if this medium is less than satisfactory...

  • am i blocked? my comment didn't post.

  • If you thought just because we were here I would change my tune you are sadly mistaken...I have no problem telling it exactly as I see it no matter who is watching.

  • haha

  • It's like a J.A.P. - a Jewish American Princess, except it's a M.A.P. - a Mormon American Princess.

  • and how exactaly would you like that to occur? As it happens I speak to both of you in my vid response....and in my comments on your vid Reid....when I said I was on NO ONES side...I meant it....I don't need to tailor my responses...they stand true for all just as I originally put them down.

  • I'll bite ... what's a MAP?

  • Hey Stacie ... I saved your life today.

  • Hey, Gordo - why don't you just copy and paste ... haha

  • nwm..i feel she is at least doing something. it's better than most people do. even if it is a bit superficial, i feel her heart is in the right place. that's just my opinion.

  • there's nothing superficial about it. Stacie and her family do quite a lot for the local homeless shelter year-round.

  • ...and by family, I mean, not only me, but her parents who serve on the administration board for the shelter, spending many hours a year doing service projects.

  • chad, to my viewing eyes it seemed superficial. if she's helping the homeless all year round, that's wonderful. i view most vids of this kind as superficial but that's my problem. she seemed sincere in her own way. i'm not going to kiss anyone's ass and say AWESOME VIDEO! because it seems just another person gaining from someone else's loss. if she's actually doing something to help, that's different.

  • I'm more than willing to repeat ANYTHING I said there, here....by all means...test me....

  • beige...if you're refering to "gordo" it means FAT....aren't you the clever one? hahaha!!

  • Do you know what Gordo means in Spanish?

  • beige..i saw you guys were coming over..i'm here too!

  • Gordo?

  • Gordon?

  • It's too cold to be outside. Nice video, Stacie

  • FOR SURE johnnysmooth! I heard you got partner???

  • Its true that taking care of mental illness is an important part of taking care of the homeless, Clay, but unless we're are psychiatrists, we do what we can and leave the rest up to those that are more qualified in that area.

  • We have to do what we can as individuals. We all can contribute something.

  • chad..so, your saying we have to be psychiatrists to take care of the homeless? then, why did stacie post this vid? i feel her vid was heartfelt and genuine but if we need medical degrees to assist the homeless, then what's the point in encouraging others to help? please explain.

  • Clay, you saw my comment. You know what it says. To treat mental illness, yes its better to have an MD or DO after your know. In order to take them towels, socks, food, soap, etc...we all get to do that. So as i said, we all can do a part.

  • BTW Stacie.......Holiday Inn and friends might just disagree with your suggestion -LOL

  • Whistling - haha WHat??

  • Not up to Stacie. We the viewers blocked the comments :)

  • No she didn't we the viewers did :)

  • ur gona think awfully bad of me...when my baby sister came to visit me here in NYC a couple of summers ago...I took her to go take pictures of all the bums on the streets with our polaroid camera for a little scrapbook...we dated time and location on them.

  • Lemonade - You should make a little slide show or something.

  • nwm..we gotta feel good about something. in a world without god, we have to fend for ourselves.

  • nwm..i have a medicine cabinet full of aspirins. i'm handing those out.

  • i believe the 'cure' to homelessness is treating drug addicts and mentally ill people.

  • You're right clay.

  • STACIE..alot of homeless people are addicted to drugs and have been released from a mental health facility. a mental health facility in my city was closed down. the patients who were more of a threat to the city went to the hospital wards and the others were homeless.

  • stacie..interesting vid.

  • Now this is a very non-partisan issue that we can all help with. Giving to the homeless is a real way that we can make a difference!

  • EXACTLY!!!! Cann

  • Stacie, you are beautiful for showing that video. I made one today as well do to your inspiration. I added it it as a responce.

    Thanks again.

    rating...

    5 kisses.

  • Lib - Your video is fantastic and VERY moving. Thanks for helping increase the awareness of the problem. I especially like the music. It reminds us that they are our brothers and sisters.

  • I can't tell you how much I'd like to get mittens from a HOT MOMMA like you Stacie!!!

  • Well, cann, thanks.

  • I'm so glad that there's people like Stacie out there that push for things to get better in this world. Nobel peace prize WATCH OUT!!!!

  • Cann - No award, Just do something for a homeless person please

  • Great job Stacie. Great ideas on how to help too. The end made me cry. Especially the picture of the guy with his dog. That is so sad.

    Peace

  • Thanks suicide. Sometimes it's hard to think of how we can help even when we know want to. Thats why I hoped this would generate some discussion on the subject.

  • No Comment..........(*****)

    Slán

  • Whistling - Thanks for the feature!

  • My pleasure..perhaps some of the more visited channels could do the same !

It is a pity though that we all just think of this because its Christmas :( I was left homeless back in '72 so I know what it feels like.

  • Whistling - I tried to point out that this time of year is especially needful because of the cold weather. I think a lot more people have been without a home than most would realize.

  • We had about 50, Freshly cooked and already wrapped German sausages in buns that were left after a big function at my work. So I Got a big Garbage bag loaded it up and headed down to Tent city and handed them all out. Every one was so thankful. It made me feel so good to see how happy they became with the most simple of a gesture, maybe we can all learn something from them....Hope I can make a video response to this tomorrow

  • Grimace = A lot of people probably wouldn't have thought to do that. They would have thrown them away or thrown a party! I look very forward to seeing your video response!

  • Great scripture and great idea. Very powerful song at the end, too. Nice to meet you, Stacie the famous.

  • Barefoot - Not PC, I know : ) but its how I feel about it. Thanks for your kind words!

  • Give them something useful, I take them out to eat if that's where I am going and they don't mind tagging along.

  • Matt - That sounds like something my husband would do too! And he'd think nothing of it. Good for you!

  • We draw names for Christmas. I was asked this year what I would like. I usually say 'I don't know'. This year I said give it to your nearest homeless shelter or animal rescue league. It's not much but there are a lot less fortunate people than me.

Have a good Christmas Stacie. :)

  • IA - Wow! That's really amazing. I think every little bit makes a difference.

  • These are great ideas! We can all make a difference in the life of a homeless person but only the Famous Stacie can look sooooooo good doing it.

  • Well, dear, thanks ; ). Any ideas??????

  • We donate clothes and things to the goodwill frequently.

  • Lord - Goodwill is a great organization. I donate to them a lot too!

  • There is also a local church group that distributes clothing and furniture for people with needs that we donate too. I have not had a garage sale in 10 years:)

  • Not used toilet paper...just to be clear...buy the toilet paper at the store.

  • Poetivity - hehehehe.... good thing to specify! haha

  • buy used backpacks at Goodwill, along with socks and toilet paper...Pack the socks, and toilet paper in the backpacks....they love it.

  • Poetivity - That's a great idea! I love that. I know the folks at our shelter love nice bags and backpacks so they can carry their stuff in them.

  • I've been doing it for years. Sometimes you can ask the people at your local school to clean out their closets and donate all the old backpacks...have them donate toilet paper and socks then you can stuff the backpacks at a community night.

  • I posted before the end... D'oh.

I'm willing to give food/meals, but not money. I should google search my area for anything local already setup.

  • I'm with you Joey. I never give money. I figure it will only go to hurt them. Some may disagree with me, but I'd rather give them a healthy meal or snack than the money. I am sure there are all kinds of opportunities around you.

  • your so nice

  • super - only when I want to be : ) J/K

  • Very caring

  • Thanks for watching Joey.

  • i love that your addressing this, and even getting heavy with the scripture/good samaritan song. great ideas stac. I will actually do the raisins/food distribution. ok I know this is silly but its been my dream for a long time that wont be possible for a while but when i become a executive/or ceo of disney, then i will actually scout out homeless men and or woman to pick up and offer to buy cothing/food/ and even give them a job. but ive FISH is a great program too.

  • Rufio - I know, i'm so not PC right now! haha... I know you will take care of all kinds of people. You're a great person like that.

  • pizzaboy - too bad : (

  • great ideas. God wants us to help those that are in need:)
