I don't understand why they jump off the wall because it puts stress on the equipment makes it wear out faster...why would they do that?? I can get down that wall quickly just but walking down it...I just don't understand why they would teach them to jump

The motivation the DS puts in you, makes you get off that wall. Regardless whether you want to or not. As scared as you might be, the DS is looking after you. As hard as that might be to believe. My DS at Fort Sill was a real beast at first, but became human as BCT went on.

for everyone who is worried about this, DONT!!!. im extremely terrified of heights and this was one of my favorite parts of basic. when u get up there, look down at the ground, get the butterflies in your stomach, climb out on the wall and when they say get off my wall, walk like 4 steps down away from the ledge then kick out away from the wall as hard as possible and repel down. im tellin u, its a wonderful thrill and like i said, im extremely afraid of heights.

The rope makes the difference. If I know I couldn't fall, there is only a little feeling of fear. But w/o any rope or railing I would panic.
