I love this song period. The beauty of DJ's music is that, while his recordings aren't for everyone, they lend themselves really well to being covered or even re-arranged by other musicians. There is no denying that Daniel is one of the most emotionally talented songwriters of our time, but that also means that to do a cover as well as this or Wilco's version, the performing artist has to have a serious emotional understanding of the song.

I've never heard a single cover of this song that I really liked. Everyone drags it out and over-sentimentalizes it. Everyone turns it into insincere pap. Johnston is the only one who seems to be able to do the damn thing at all.
