  • A bit sarcastic and unsympathetic toward the housewife's lot, if you ask me........what about all the drugs that Mick and Keith took to upkeep their lifestyles?

I know they're not finger pointing exactly, but this song seems to have a bit an undercurrent of "housewives don't really have it as hard as they think they do". I think I like the Stones better when they're not trying to tackle serious issues like this.

  • @AndrewNewZealand - try somewhere else to argue, and at least make it try and ring true

this song was written 47 years ago, DA

  • @AndrewNewZealand Chill out dude you need a fuckin pill!

  • Reddit sent me...Anyone have a teleport for me to get back?

  • Love the Rolling Stones and always will! this is how God intended Rock and Roll to be! Not some pussy ass Justin Bieber crap! And I feel bad saying that as he is just a kid, but he sucks plan and simple…And I m German we aren’t too good about people’s feelings, try as we might sigh.

  • What doctor supplies these pills and where can I find him/her?

  • Comment removed

  • They can't come up with music like this nowadays and the Stones just rolled out how they were. No fancy make up or dressy cloths.Peace

  • @missmicheleo you got that right! they didnt need weird looks like Lady Gaga, they had pure ROCK!

  • These day it's the kids that are drugged.

  • but it was my mothers little helper hehe

  • i never get an overdose

    and I am 61 now

with 3 very very bad and beautiful boys

  • So is this song sympathetic or sardonic? Or merely an observation?

  • thumbs up if you think sayin thumbs up is fuckin stupid and being addicted to a prescription drug is fuckin hell.

  • 6 people, never helped their mother :/ too bad!

  • @TheCasualbikes Too bad that's not what this song is about...

  • @DarkHeart135 I know dude, I wrote just for the tittle! Cheers.

  • @DarkHeart135 Ah yes it is about drugs duh! I maybe German but I know enough about "The Rolling Stones" to tell you yeah its about prescription drugs..valium to be exact! Except then it was yellow today it is blue but same med...I am not trying to be mean but that is what the song is about.

  • why are people arguing about what the first punk song was onmothers little helper by the rolling stones?

  • @fodlrke, @MrVGSantanna - I think the very first punk rock song is Get Off Of my Cloud. It has to be - the irreverent lyrics, vocals, title, everything. Shouldn't it?

  • Lovely song the stones and zeppelin my favorits

  • i dont care if you argue with it or not, THIS is the first Punk rock song ever!!!!!

  • @fodlrke The Who - My Generation (1965)

  • My childhood exactly...my mom took valium steady, even when she was pregnant with me. Back in the sixties, they were thought to be safe and wouldn't hurt unborn children...same with cigarette smoking and drinking. In fact, my mom said that right after the baby was born, they would bring all the mother's a cigarette and an ashtray...right in their beds. Funny how we survived....but we did!. .

  • This song brings back so many great memories, I was only 6 yrs old but I still remember it like it was yesterday, thanks for posting this song!

  • @radruzzz - Amen to that! I was only 9, but I, too, remember like it was yesterday. God, don't you just love it? THOSE were the days. Peace.

  • pills suck they were my mothers downfall she overdosed 14 years ago and she luved the stones so do i of course

  • mother's big helper, rorer 714

  • @DaggettBliss i feel you but try being a child of your generation...living in you generation and you find out you father has cancer@the young age of 64

  • I used to get the 5 mg vallum tabs perscribed years ago upon my discharge and yea they were very Yellow in color. The Green ones are better they are the tens thow in a bag or two of dope and your in NOD CITY !!!

  • Fukn Classic...

  • @StokeL4D Agreed ♥♥

  • What a drag it is getting old.....truer words were never spoken..... :-((

  • This is how it was then the docs prescribed Valium and dished them out like sweets when I was in my early 20's they were the cure all for everything at that time till 20yrs later there was a generation addicted to prescribed drugs. I'm generalising of course not everyone took them lots did though.

  • Great Song! Sounds very like the Kinks at that time!

  • it is awesome

  • My lil pills are Blue with a V cut :-)~

  • Thumbs up if you don't need Glee to know what good music is!

  • @DaggettBliss If you show me yours, I'll show you mine...my medicine cabinet, that is!

  • one of there best songs ever they did.

  • still one of the very best songs the twins wrote - when there was glamour

  • P.S.: It's even more of a drag getting old when you're a woman.

  • Ah, benzos won't kill ya, unless you take like 100 and wash them down with a liter of vodka. And hey, where's the Valium in the video? The round blue ones look like Klonnies. (I should know.) The white ones look like, I don't know, antibiotics or something. Ha, sorry. Great video for a great song, thanks for posting.

  • @Rapunzel676 no one cares about how much shit u take u fuckin nut, enjoy the stones not the pictures u fucking kid

  • @captaindirtydick Kid? I'm 35 years old, Grandpa, and if you don't care, why bothering commenting? STFU and let me enjoy the music AND the pictures. That's what some of us do when we're watching videos. If you don't like it, go listen to your LPs.

  • @Rapunzel676 The blue ones in this video are 1mg xanax most likely. The watson pills are vicodin

  • @wildj611 I was kind of curious about the other pills were -- thanks for letting me know. I absolutely don't think benzos are a joke; they should always be taken under the supervision of a doctor and as much as I joke around, I'm careful with all of my meds. I'm terribly sorry about your friend. It really isn't common to OD on benzos, though, unless they're mixed with alcohol or other drugs.

  • @Rapunzel676 About *what* the other pills were. I'm leaving out words today, apparently.

  • @Rapunzel676 Well right you are he was also doing Roxicet(an opiate) that night so it most likely contributed. Thanks for the reply

  • @wildj611 No problem, and I really am sorry about your friend.

  • @wildj611 This song was written way before the advent of Xanax. Also, the medications in Britain are at times not available in the US, or not the same formulation.

  • @Rapunzel676 And you're wrong. Benzos are no joke and they kill more people than opiates do. I just lost a friend who died in his sleep because of Xanax

  • @wildj611 You are very correct on this one , though. People are dying at alarming rates because of mis-use and make it difficult for patients to receive rx. for benzos when clinically called for. Doctors are becoming too scared to prescribe.

  • brian jones forever

  • wee analysed this song in english!

  • The lyrics are soooooo masterful!

  • did she take them b4, during or after her 19th nervous breakdown? lol actually Barbiturates were used more than Benzodiazepines as tranquilizers or old school tricyclic anti-depressants in the mid-1960's when this song came out b4 it was known they can be more dangerous even deadly in an overdose especially when mixed with alcohol.

  • @busterbone Well said, my friend. These younger listeners are discussing the pills- which vary greatly in appearance depending on whether they are name-brand or generic, the strength, and other variants.

  • WHAT A DRAG IT IS BEING STONED.

  • @Krznb6 No it's not!

  • what pill r they talking about?

  • @tokedoja Valium

  • Dear DaggettBliss....I too can feel the 'weary'. I refuse to give in, in spite of the world full of an undue amount of turmoil now compared to when I was 17 (that was 1965) Ta Da!!. I keep on dancing too. I grab all the delicious music I can. It tells me I'm here to enjoy. I love what was then, and find the good parts out there now (mostly non tech) of music today. I was a dj and sang a bit on stage, it helps. This tune is just the bomb, I just loved it soooo much.

  • 3 persons got an overdose

  • A public service from the Stones.

  • DONT WORRY ITS NOT SO BAD BEING 50S.... LOOK AT THE OLD ROCKERS THAT CAME WITH US IN AGE, TIME IS NOT ON OUR SIDE...LUV THE STONES

  • @DaggettBliss It's not so bad. I'm 55 and the Stones are in their late sixties, and even older. Look at Mick Jagger, still dancing.

  • Had my second middle age MRI last week took a heavy Valium and a Oxy they had to wake me up when they were finished..

  • @blueticecho You're lucky they woke you up instead of hauling your butt to their ER. Sedation for MRI's is common, but self-medication is looked down on in most legitimate health care facilities.....

  • drugs don't cure you, but destroy you and all arround

  • I just took my 5mg Valium after a near panic attack at work.. so I obviously had to listen to this song. <3

  • if i lived in the 50s i'd be doing Valium everyday too

  • i just love that song

  • youtube.com/watch?v=APAUaqbhVLw&feature=related very good cover!!

  • life

  • kudos to the 3 or so, whose mothers were bible thumpers

  • When I was little I thought it meant there was a little girl who helped her mother out all the time.

  • I got my first paper round to save up and buy Aftermath just for this song. After all these years it still sounds great. Wyman's bass sends tingles up and down my spine.

  • thumbs up if youve been baked to this song!!

  • @subwooferpro11 does this time count?

  • @329ghr no not this time

  • @subwooferpro11 best!

  • @subwooferpro11 dude im ripped now.

  • 870x like, 3x dislike ... i have nothing more to add :)

  • fucking epic

  • Such a fantastic song. I now finally see why why father loved these guys. Respect.

  • They got pills for every disease now, if the pills don't kill you before the disease does.

  • (fen' ter meen)

  • Love Brian Jones' sitar... <3

  • @MissPoitier It's not Sitar. It's a ''heavily compressed 12-string electric guitar played with a slide.''

  • @MrAmandaeneroth Oh thank you. :o

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!......want to know some juicy gossip about dave wyman that they dare not print in the magazines.....go to "i see red jimeapg" and read my 3 comments. regards.

  • I have an extreme high tolerance to drugs. I don't know if it's my extreme slow metabolism or an immunity. I've took Heroin, Crack, LSD, LSA, Shrooms, coke and various pills I.E. Lortab, Percocet, Xanax, etc and none of them effected me.

The only drugs that have an obvious effect on me are Marijuana and Alcohol. Marijuana (indica I believe) puts me to sleep. I don't like port for that reason, but it's a great sleep aid. Alcohol is my choice. But, wippits tore me up before. Brain killer...

    The

  • @siverwow me too ganja fucks me up but give me loads of coke and im gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @stolendruggie WOW youre gay too

  • Comment removed

  • @siverwow WOW that is so cool ........ wait , no its not FAG

  • OMG this was not Valium they are talking about .... its speed. Meth was highly perscribed in the late 50's to mid 60's.

    It was a cure for:

    gaining weight

    lack of energy

    lack of want

  • @texizgreat Those would have been black beauties, and yeah, they were given as diet pills! Then there were Quaaludes and all sorts of other mind candies, and it got a little out of hand after a while, people started having bad things happening..

Now it's all just boring antidepressants and they're not much fun no matter how well they do work.

  • @texizgreat Someone knows a little something but definitely not a lot of something. Methamphetamine is not amphetamine. Dextroamphetamine is stll scripted for dozens of reasons. Everywhere from kindergardeners to fighter pilots and astronauts. Methamphetamine is only scripted under the name Desoxyn and is far less recreational than dextroamphetamine or 'D-Amphetamine'

  • @ryanlewiz ....as a 55 yr old baby boomer who has been there since the beginning, and has dabbled continuously since 1969 I can say with certainly that YOU my friend,KNOW your drugs.Alot of people CLAIM to know drugs but I can tell from your post that you are highly educated in the do's and dont's of street/pharma's!!!!!!!Would love to have a conversation with you.

  • @texizgreat It was Valium...I was there, believe me..Although Black Beauty's were easy to get for weight...

  • beautiful keep a going

  • nice!

  • this song would be really cool if a punk band redid it but the original is still the best

  • oh doctor PLEASE some more of these

  • on sen lasse pa, pas du tout, j'ecoute , jecoute tjs et encore et tjs

  • hypnotic riff, wish i had sum acid

  • I PREFERE 3 NORCOS AND 1 KLONIPINE AND A HIT OF POT.

  • The Rolling Stones were ahead of their time.

  • 1.39 I GOT THEM IN WHITE :D

  • love love love this - n the pics r awesome - the stones kick ass

  • What a drag it is getting old. Amen.

  • all my yesterdays, slimming pills from the dr. sold at 6p. Danced all night at Clacton

  • 2 people thought that it is possible to download song with thumb down button

  • I love this song! It puts me in the mood for my blue footballs! Oh, to be young again! Love ya Rolling Stones!

  • if thats the easy way out taking a pill!you are just letting your phyco-doc off the hook!cauz he can't hel[p-or don't have time to help you he has other people to scam and keep on a string!

  • @77davince Oh please-it's a damn song!! And it WAS the "thing to do" at the time-lol!! PLEASE- Get offa my cloud!!

  • Ya know, I really don't give a fuck what anyone puts in their bodies. I was sending a warning. My doc has me on so many sedatives that I don't know what day it is anymore. But I'm beyond caring, now. I'm gonna take them and drift through the rest of my psychotic life. They are not life savers. They're life buoys to cling to when I'm drowning and there's nothing else around. Now someone pass me a beer. Cheers.

  • What the fuck i would love to minimize my flight.

  • @blueticecho I second that emotion.

  • Those sure look a lot like Quaaludes at 1:37. :o))

  • one on 653 needs a little helper

  • i have been looking for this song for like a year lol heard it on the radio but forgot the words

  • bahhh little yellows houses are somewhere one can live

  • who does care its all good.....differant tastes yes but all amazing IT'S MUSIC...creation...it's all important and wonderful....I RESPECT EVERY ARTIST HERE THANKS FOR UR AWESOME TALENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i got a fetish for the stones....

  • @pennywise1682 me too

  • @pennywise1682 Me too! Have u seen their "Far Away Eyes" video?? OMG-it's SOOOO fking HOT!! AND funny as Hell, too!!

  • Xanax is a little yellow pill

  • @bamnibaum Yeah, but this song is about Valium, which housewives were getting addicted to at the time. It's actually a social commentary song.

  • nice bass!!

  • great song!

  • Ativan's ok, Klonopin is wonderful, Valium is hard to find these days.

  • @fascistbullygirl13 Valium's not too hard to find, but a lot of doctors don't like using it and its generics (like Diazepam) are cheaper. But I still take the "little blue pills", myself. But I agree about Ativan—or Lorazepam—whichever.

How did a discussion board about the greatest (in my opinion) Stones song turn into a day at the pharmacy, anyway?

  • @jestysoup WELL, simply due to the nature of the songs meaning I could easily guess ;p I'd have to disagree with you about the valium. As you stated yourself, doctors don't like using it. Diazepam is of course the generic name for valium. All of said drugs are old enough that much cheaper generics are available.

  • @jestysoup LMAO!! Cuz we're all re-living fond memories of our lives, or our mom's lives, or someone we know lives!! It's all good:-) No judgments here!!

  • like i said, dolts. there have been junkies for a long, long time. and junkie isnt a term just to refer to heroin addicts in particular. by the way my comment was sarcasm, since you couldnt tell. also i get my information from facts, like history, not from fictional movies. this could go on forever. im over it.

  • ANOTHER GREAT SONG , !! EVAN THOUGH IT IS A CLASIC , !! IT IS A DRAG GETTING OLD , !!

  • I agree it's one of their great early songs, but it came out a year after Satisfaction, so it can't be their best until the release of Satisfaction.

  • Mic used to be hot, but he was always flamboyant.

  • I got my first paper round to buy 'Aftermath' just for this track. After all these years it is still my favourite Stones track. I LOVE THE BASS!

  • 0:35 LOL *-*

  • Can a stimulant have the opposite effect on someone? For me ,it 's always been caffiene

    Caffeine always has clmed down

  • @Freyja1133 yes it can! it helps you focus on 1 subject instead of getting distracted you may see this as calming down. But if you drink some more youll see that your heartbeat is going up and your irritated.

  • @jeroenvlas Not me, Jer... I had a nasty /life threatening side effect from Ritalin at the age of 11

it was ritalin that went to my ehart & sped my heartbeat up to the point that it skipped a beat

So in my case caffeine wouldn;t hurt me,it helps

there's another way that caffeine helps..I'm asthmatic& caffeine relaxs my bronchial tubes( lungs)

at the beginning of an attack

  • @Freyja1133 always sad to hear about kids on amfetamine. luckely caffain helps you through your retardations!

  • @jeroenvlas jer, I was put on ritalin because the family doc misdiagnosed the most recognisable symptom..A fast metabolism with severe hyperactivity

  • I get the tens... no kids, just life. It's nice to be numb. It is a drag getting old when all your friends are no longer available due to kids, families, jobs, etc. "Mother's Little Helper" indeed gets me through the day. Oh? Is it that time again? I'd rather be working.

  • people werent junkies 50 yrs ago? dolt.

  • @viscerallyrepulsed JUnkie = heroin addict not pills

  • @Freyja1133 .....Tell that to the benzo-oxy freaks out there.....

  • @viscerallyrepulsed ey were pill poppers back then... you'd learn this fact if you'd watch the movie Valley of the dolls which speaks of what can happen when one gets hooked on Dolls

  • They need to blast this song on the radio, because of people's recent OVER-ABUSE of prescription pills, funny how a song recorded nearly 50 years ago predicted a future of junkies.

  • @sexysixxable

Great post. How true! The Stones were so ahead of their time.

  • sigh...its a magnificent song written about the 60's and the plight of the stereotypical "housewife." they were real and they existed when this song was written. they were also taking a lot of valium and a drug called librium. apparently 1 in 20 women were on one of these two drugs. they actually called the 1960's the year of tranquelizers. its not a song about stoner moms in the 60's but an entire era of miserable women self medicating just to be able to stand their lives.

  • The person who clicked "dislike" probably had to grow up with the hell of a stoned mom on "mother's little helpers." I can relate...

  • The best Stones' song. There is a mistake in the description. This song came after 'Satisfaction'.

  • time2tranquillizemymind::))!!!!
