Ok lets accept that Mega Man X was created by Dr. Light.Then what happened to the original Mega Man.

A "reploid" is the term used for robots Dr. Cain created using X's designs as a base. It's short for "replicated android", in that they are replicas of X's design. Mega Man isn't a reploid, as he was not created in that way.

Technically speaking I think Megaman is a "reploid". In the universe a reploid is a synthetic lifeform with a "soul". Self aware, independant thought, has feelings, etc. The term reploid didnt surface till megaman x though so its open for debate.

The original Mega Man didn't have independent thought. He was told to give justice, and therefor carried out justice. Mega Man X how ever, did have independent thought, He was told to do what he felt was right. He had the possibility of thinking wrong was right and right was wrong, hence the name X
