I never understood why the English sing "When The Saints Go Marching In" at football games. I think that song is more popular in England than it is in America though it is an American song.
Actually I just read online that his 'admission' was an April Fool's joke and was part of some online webcast that was later retracted...you're right about the English player being in position to finish - Roger Hunt I believe his name was?
Im only 26 but by watching this I can almost understand why the older generation say football was better in 'dem days'!Lets compare football in '66 to today.Well one observation is it looks to me like you have German fans mixing with the English fans at Wembley.Could you imagine that happening now?There are a few protests by the German players for Englands 3rd goal you don't get them surrounding the referee and barking at them like dogs.There also seems to be a mutual respect between players.
I agree, I believe soccer was much more wide open, creative, and entertaining back in the day...but I think there was just as much controversy back then as there is now. Witness the quarter-final of the '66 World Cup between England and Argentina, or the Battle of Berne in the '54 Cup between Hungary and Brazil.

@TheHadoi that's wrong many experts say that the third english goal was't a goal everybody knows that xD

@TheHadoi Incorrect hat-trick, that is. Actually, he only scored two goals. Equal to what Ronaldo did in the 2002 final.

@DrStrangebomb1993 it was given, we won, Ronaldo is a chump.
Deal with it.

@smoochym Then I don't want to hear another Englishman complaining about that "our goal was disallowed" either.

@TheHadoi
Geoff Hurst admitted in April of this year that the goal shouldn't have counted.

@JimmyL84 I completely agree! It's a shame what's happened to what used to be a great sport for everyone

@JimmyL84 Don't think from that that I think football is bad or anything, but I do think you're spot on with what you say
