Maestro, wow! Listened to this 3 times in a row, still fascinated. Voicing of the theme very beautiful, spacial, logical. Then two chorusses with similar elegance, some far out notes added in the second one, but without ever loosing the connection to the melody and the spirit of the song... you make me smile with my heart...
@JogiBass And Jogi you make me very happy with such a in depth comment, it's for guys like you, Freddy, Allen,Frank,Pat (and more),Tony that make my stay at YT worthwhile, thanks for your appreciation from the Heart Amigo, Vic.
Hi Vic, I was just finishing up and ran through a couple of my unread emails and found I had forgotten to listen to your posted tune "My Funny Valentine". solid performance Vic ! i've listened to this video a lot in the last couple days.every note sounds so precise. i love the tempo. this is a good lesson in how to make a ballad come alive ! really really wonderful playing amigo !
@freddym223 Thanks Fred, glad you liked it, it's one of my favorite ballads, suddenly think of what you once said in a comment that you where scatting melodies all the time, well everytime I listened to Chet play this besides hearing what he did, I was humming many other variations in my mind, such an inspiring piece, all the best Amigo, hope all's well with you,Vic.
@Jazzguts yes i was scatting , but not the melody . i was scatting other variations jazzing around the melody just like you with chet. thats how i improvise. just scatting jazz along with, say a singer singing the straight melody .
absolutely stunning Vic. dont know what to say other than it really does not get any better than this right here. some of those phrases made my jaw drop......a pleasure to know you Sir. cheers, Gav
@zneella Thanks Gav, phrasing must have 3 things: Soul-rhythm (good time) and melodic quality in terms of solid statements, those are the things I constantly work on with great self critique, thanks for listening,Vic.
@Sjaak Ik luister naar alle muziek maar ik vindt veel muziek niet goed, muziek moet inhoud hebben en geen gemakzucht uitstralen, dat is het ergste wat er bestaat,Vic.
This is not the sort of music you normally listen to? I sure hope you change you mind now, because as you say (I think) This interpretation does what music is supposed to do. Nice one Vic. Absolutely. (Hope I didn't interpret incorrectly! :) ~Big Smile~..
I don't speak your language sir, but I think I got the flavour of what you are saying.
What a cool take on this classic. You hid the melody in your improv brilliantly! I have not heard this done better by anyone. This is truly world class arranging and playing. Congrats!
@carvetop01 Thank you my friend, again the words of a gentleman who can bring under words what he hears, always I used to hum along melodies while listening to Chet Baker,he's a natural he has inspired me greatly, greetings Vic.
Hi, Victor...I first heard this tune about a year ago....it was love at first sound....and then this rendition, really took my breath away...wonderful!! Nothing more to say....keep jazzin´....~Daniel
@acodaniel1 Thank you brother, indeed one of my favorite Standards and such a natural sounding tune, that's the thing brother in a way it's complex but still sounding natural, that's what I like, greets Vic.
Yet again another sublime musical time of listening. I love how you incorporate your favourite lick structures into your solos so they sound musical rather than contrived. You also refused to pump out a torrent of notes to bore the listener. I really appreciate your playing. I appreciate how you don't seek to impress but rather flow in the wonderful moment of creating music you love to hear for yourself. I feel like am repeating what I have stated on other videos you have kindly shared with us!
@CTuxford Thank you for your wise words, much appreciated, I couldn't have stated it better in words. My motto is: I play to express not to impress, a long time ago while studying the Art of Zen this I valued as my truth, I follow the natural course of flow in the moment, and while listening I hear the Music has composed itself, all I ever have to do is concentrate deeply while playing and the rest will follow, I've been practicing this for years, great comment from you, greetings Vic.

@SabMei1 My friends are just as sensitive I've concluded. It has to do with what Strings you touch in another Soul, Music does this greatly, much better than words. This is not totally true when I read the poem ArchtopBrownie sent to me,that was very touching as well. Big hug Vic.

@sunriverperson Thanks Rich, you're right more and more things are starting to fall in place. Music is the Art that makes me concentrate deeply and when I do so I'm in that beautiful world of sound which makes me hear all these colors , I just paint with them in a free way, greetings Vic.
That was really nice, Vic. You did a great job of portraying the mood of the song.....it always puts me in a melancholy mood, but the ending shift from minor to major leaves me with a smile. Perfect for this time of year when everyone feels a little 'beat up' after the holidays. Thanks for your contributions here....I don't always leave a comment, but I enjoy all of your videos.

@FrankRMusic Frank Amigo, this is the best comment I've got today. Because the thing you're describing is the "essence" of my playing and insight into Music in general. The thing is I always think (strong) melody, follow the changes and capture their beauty, sometimes I play the Blues and rely on intuition always knowing what's happening harmonically, glad you enjoyed my friend and thanks for your great comment,Vic.

Fabulous rendition, Victor!... And now for a completely off-the-wall comment: Besides the fact that you're playing this song with an incredible of amount of skill, soul and finesse, it's your pinky that for some odd reason intrigues me from the video... Okay, I know that I'm an eccentric dork that notices things that others don't but seriously at :42 :57, and later on at 5:30 you've got some sort of "Elvis" thing going on (similar to his legs) with your pinky. Please enlighten me ;-)
@SqwishTV Ha ha, you probably mean: the big stretching that I'm doing with some chords? Well I never really think of how things "look" on the Guitar,I'm just heading for Sounds I hear in my head and try to realize them, afterwards I look at the Video and think, that looks kinda weird but the sound that I aimed for is coming out and that's my main goal, good weekend, thanks for great comment,Vic.

@AmundLauritzen Thanks Amund for your Soulful comment,it's true what you say,I love ballads because they create "Space" which I can formulate in my own way,I mean even the theme can be delayed or stretched,re-interpreted in the Mood I feel. Just checked your "Four on Six" real tight playing brother, lot of Soul in there.
