I would like to see what that tank would look like if they did get into live coral. They could use a variety of aqua cultured coral that is available. beautiful tank, I've seen it myself.
not too much fish at all. the water to fish ratio is 20:1 and i am sure the filteration and upkeep on this aquarium is beyond perfect. imo, it just looks so busy cause of all the brightly colored fish!
i agree with uberfiseh, rule of thumb is 10g per fish, here its double that and i have a microtank that is 20x harder to keep fishes in than in my 110g. besides, with that big of a tank in Vegas, the person who up-keeps the maintenance is definitely more than just a hobbyist, they prob hire a marine biologist
These guys have plenty of Marine Bios working around the clock on this and their dolphin enclosure. I use to work at the Mirage, it has a huge sump area that is just as big if not bigger than the tank itself.
You see a 20000 gallon tank, add in another for the sump and filtration system they have and you have a massive amount of water.
There people over think the fish count. Consider most of the fish in there are schoolers & are comfortable bumping into other fish constantly.
overpopulation has 2 aspects : for fish and for watcher ? for fish there is only overpopulation when there is stress... so this tank is not overpopulated for most of the fish (i think), 'though a little less fish would create even more chillness for the ones in the tank... for watcher is it a question of visual acceptance... and that's a subjective matter...i think to much different fish so not very complementary ... but i enjoy it anyway.
Theres a saying about dilution and fish, but essentially it means; the bigger the tank, the more stable it is. Now thats 20 gallons a fish, certainly enough space.
you say its overcrowded but think about in real coral reefs around the world there's alot more because theres whole schools of these fish not trying to be rude or anything but just trying to make a point.
i really dont understand why people klick the dislike button after watching a video like this. . . its beautiful, well recorded, and i am glad that i watched it cuz i will propably never have the chance to go there and look at it myself. thank you very much for sharing
WAY to many fish and it looses it's apeal. Sorry and your question is based on what your filtration is made up off before I can tell you whether you are overstalked or not. Nevertheless not impresed in fact some of the 20 gallon ones blow your away sorry. Dudes too much of one thing most times is fatal.
Are you sure that's 20,000 gallons? It looks more like 2,000 gallons. 20,000 gallons is more like an super-sized swimming pool.
Anyway, this is a fish-only system; no live rock or real corals in it. That said, it is only slightly overcrowded, since those are all large species of fish and the Nitrates will constantly be high, regardless of the efficiency of the filtration system or frequency or size of water changes. If it was a reef tank with real corals, that's about 10x too many fish! :(
The tank is not overcrowded. If they can keep the system clean, the fish get along, and they're healthy, where's the problem? The fish have plenty of swimming room, and show no signs of stress. It's an awesome tank IMHO.
o and ppl theres not 1000 fish in there no where close..it says 100o reef animals which consist of corals worms crabs shrimps plants all of that which the natural reef inhabits..
no this tank is not overpopulated due to the fish gallon rule...for every gallon of water u can have a inch of fish give or take...so this tank can handle quite alot of fish..and with it bein that much water it takes alot for the nitrate cycle to get really high also the corals and rock in there help the tanks overall cleansliness..overall it is a really nice tank with nice corals and a great selection of fish very nice~!!!
@MrJp2111 that is really funny that you actually believe that rule! So what you just said is i could have a 20 inch fish in a 20 gallon tank or tw0 60" fish in a 125 gallon tank? That rule is crap. the only fish that rule applies to is guppies, maybe.
@Mrfish4life1 ya it is funny that ur a dumbass who doesnt understand the point...i follow the rule and my tank is fine as long as u aint a lazy fuk who never cleans ur tank...but if i have a 20 inch fish obviously u need a bigger tank u fukin dumbass
@MrJp2111 I completely understand the point! the general rule is 1 inch per fish per 1 gallon. So i understand what your saying and what many others say but what I said was that I disagree. I clean my 3 tanks weekly and take great care of my fish. Now, I understand your rule but what I don't understand is your grammar. "but if i have a 20 inch fish obviously u need a bigger tank u fukin dumbass". Why do I need a bigger tank if you have a 20" fish
@AweSomo84 also, i think it is funny that b4 you made this comment I actually subscribed to you! Also, i was just watched a vid by spacemadness42 and you commented on it!
It's the Mirage there tank is gonna have the best filtration and skimming devices known to man, but i will say one thing about there system it lacks a lot of water flow...doesn't look like it has alot of movement to it.
I would say it is not overpopulated, that is a large volume of water and they probably have some of the best protein skimmers and filtration known to man. I wouldn't doubt if they are running a dialyseas system that act like a dialysis machine on humans.
it looks over crowded but there are probably alot of little cave for the fish and with the 1 inch per gallon rule you have up to 20000 inches of fish they are probably good. beautiful by the way
It is most likely over populated. A lot of the danger over population has on your fish is the amount of waste stressing your bio filter and causing your aquarium to cycle and toxic levels of ammonia and nitrites and such. That being said, I'm sure they wouldn't skimp on filtration and have more than enough filtration for the amount of fish in this aquarium. So most of the danger in that aquarium from overcrowding would probably be the fish feeling cramped thats my unprofessional opinion
i would say it depends on the types of fish that are in the aquarium. 1000 fish for 20000 gal? thats 20 gal of space for fish. minus the space that the rock and coral takes up. most of those fish look larger than the blue tangs (the dory fishes) which are supposed to have a minimum of 125 gal for a tank. so yes i would say this tank is extremely overpopulated
Having seen the last fish in your video first hand....I have to say WOW....what an amazing and gracious creature.....wiser than many a man I'm sure :-)
This is a Saltwater tank at the Mirage in Las Vegas. 20,000 gallons. I'm pretty sure the best professional fish keepers and engineers worked on this thing and picked every fish and coral carefully. Overcrowding is not an issue at all.
I don't think it's overpopulated at all, usually a "big" population helps to spread aggression, and with over-filtration it's okay.
For example, a 75 gallon Lake Malawi tank typically has 20 or MORE decent sized, aggressive, territorial fish, or 3.75 gallons per fish, this aquarium boasts 20 gallons per fish, and their ability to grow as large as they are is evidence of low stress and plenty of room.
Furthermore, it's not 1000 fish, its 1000 aquatic animals, some of which are very small!
Tbh it's not that overcrowed imo, as the fish have alot of room around them none of them seem to be in distress :p but on the otherhand it could well be over populated
I kust want to know how thick that front glass piece is, that way I can build my own. Awsome tank, and I for one would say it's NOT overcrowded at all.
This aquarium isn't overcrowded. It's 20,000 gallons. They probably have an awesome skimmer set and refugium with all kinds of macro algae. It's all good!
i would actualy say it is overcrowded but not because of the amount of fish as per sae the amont of space fish are aloted for hideing seems most every fish is forced into the front probarly haveing a decent death rate amoungst the tangs though they can just go buy more easily and almost noone would ever know
its not near overcrowed. looks good to me....ive worked in public aquariums for alongtime, and i can tell you its not overcrowded. im sure that with a tank that size, there filtration, and skimmer is suited for the bioload that they have in the system.
i think its way overstocked if yah ask me they have nearly no room ta swim
