I don't want to turn this into a silly argument, but I'm inclinde to agree with nutchan. I've lived in Tokyo a while and having spoken to countless Japanese I can honestly say that only a few (maybe 10 out of the few hundred i've conversed with) had ever been to America, and this was because their company MADE them. Very few Japanese have any interest in America, let alone want to move there.

I have to say, it may be different but I think it's cool that there are so many people with such a variety of interests and hobbies. If you go to a park here in Korea you find people um...walking. Yeah, that's about it. I think it's great that Japan has so many vibrant subcultures. They may look cheesy to us, but would you rather a bunch of xenophobic racists? Instead, they're embracing what they view is an interesting bit of culture from another country. Look at cosplay in the US.^^
